This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I thought the Pilot episode was one of the most inventive sitcom episodes I've seen (I'm way past 40, been 'round the block, for crissakes, I voted for Quisp, OK?!). If you like Family Guy, you'll like this, 'nuf said. Episode 2 was just OK -- hey, it's early in the season. As another reviewer mentions, this sitcom is a bit vulgar and if you cringe seeing 12 year olds exposed to sexual lingo and seriously screwy adult situations, THIS IS NOT FOR YOU! But it is for me. I'm all in, can't wait for more! Expand

Comedies can be hard. "The Detour," through the two episodes that aired Monday night, seems like one that might work. Jason Jones and Natalie Zea make a good comedic pairing, and the show has elements of that "Vacation" feel, which just worked. Will it work long-term? Can it keep momentum going for a full season, much less multiple seasons? Who knows. But for now, it's funny and engaging,Comedies can be hard. The Detour is an extremely original half-hour comedy by those funny Daily Show alums Jason Jones and Samantha Bee (Full Frontal with Samantha Bee), on TBS. It goes from slapstick to dark comedy and breaks the common taboos of network television: language, drinking, giving teenage son a drink, etc. It is rollickingl funny at times and very reminiscent of National Lampoon's Vacation. If you, like at least one viewer on Metacritic, become "offended" by "obscenity," then you won't like it. But I suggest you stick with it. It is so much better than the endless formula sitcoms on network tv, like Two Broke Girls and their ilk. Highly recommended for the adventurous. Expand

Original, fun fast paced comedy. Great actors, seriously. Worth a watch, the story his great, the episodes are always very different one from another, nothing not to like.

I really thought that this show had the potential to be funny. The commercials looked hilarious. However, when I began watching the show, I quickly realized that it was filthy. The fact that young children act in this show is really disturbing! Who in their right mind would allow their kids to do this? I have a feeling the next stop for these kids will be the Dr. Phil show. At some point, where does the "humor" become too adult for children to be involved both morally and legally? It just creeps me out. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Why must all comedies nowadays be obscene? Seriously, is that a new rule? Within the first minute comes the first "joke" about genitalia, then more and more, and it involves children. Is it not possible to be funny without being filthy? It's saddening to see more and more shows like this. I can also tell you, almost all men will stop watching this show within 10 minutes because one of the "jokes" involve a little girl getting her first "time of the month" in a dirty public restroom. What were the writers thinking? . Expand

At first, I wasn't sure if I wanted the watch this show, considering there have been very few new shows I liked this season.
But what a surprise, it's actually a lot of fun!
If you want political correctness, this show might not be your cup of tea. It covers topics like sex, drugs, alcohol, but not really in a familiar and family friendly way. The way the parents talk with their two

The way the parents talk with their two children about these issues is refreshing, original and very funny.
The parents giving their kids "the talk" about sex ("how do you get pregnant") is just hilarious! I totally cracked up.
The kids surprised me, because they contribute a lot of funny stuff.

So, if you haven't, give this show a try!

The first season was great. I really enjoyed it. Now, season 2 is disaster. It's disgusting, grouse and there are practically nothing to laugh about. I was so excited that Detour got renewed, but now i'm so disappointed and i'm not gonna continue watching. Such a pity. :(

The Detour is everything the Vacation movie reboot failed to accomplish. First of all, it's funny. Jason Jones and Natalie Zea (showing nice comedic chops following her turn from Justified) have good chemistry as the beleaguered married couple. Funny people doing and saying funny things. Even the kids are funny, not just cutesy. It's way over the top but they know and we know they're going there so it works out great. It makes me laugh out loud constantly.

It's got that national lampoon vacation feel too it yet The Detour doesn't have that campy feel. The Detour has sex, drugs, alcoholism, and racism yet the it is somehow endearing. The characters are well thought out and the family dynamics are believable. It is actually well done for a cable half hour comedy.

Not too bad. Very raunchy, so make sure the kids are asleep before watching. Can't believe the show gets away with this stuff. Shows are getting pretty crazy.

Original, thought proviking as "the Devils advocate" with its wit but done with some intellect within the story arc. I love the honesty within each character no matter how flawed. And it's pretty humorous. ✌

It's definitely an interesting comedy that brings some new elements to television. I like the characters but I do feel like the acting isn't always great. I think sometimes the sexual jokes are a bit misplaced but it is a decent show overall.

he Detour‘s welcomely serialized structure reveals a rhythmic predictability by episode 2, and not all of the lines land (particularly from the kids), but this is the kind of new-age, modern sitcom that feels fresh and exciting, even despite its obvious inspirations.

The Detour has already been renewed for a second season, so the show has time to develop into something more interestingly amusing.

The Detour is pretty consistently funny but the humor tends to be filled with sexual innuendo that some viewers will find offensive. For others, it will be just fine.
