Horrible, Just horrible. As a fan of the original Roseanne series, it just isn't the same without her in the show. She is what brought the laughter. I don't see this renewing for a second season, but I could be wrong.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I am one of those deplorables that still hasn't gotten over the DE-throning of Roseanne. You all ganged up on her like a bunch of hungry jackals. I for one LOVE Donald Trump, and I am also one who has NEVER been racist. She put you ALL at the top, and then you fricken pounce on her without any regard to who she really is. A person prone to inserting foot in mouth? YES (me too RB)! Racist? NO. One of the pioneers of ANTI racism in the 90's, but memories are out the window when the mob mentality sets in and adults turn into jackal type freaks just wanting blood of their victim. I never one time watched even one episode of this trash. Sara Gilbert's agenda was not the theme of the original show, but hey we can't dog her for being an opportunist. Showgirls, the oh so classical movie of the 90’s had a scene with Gina getting kicked down the stairs. BYE DARLin' that's ALL that happened, and how you all made it even this far is well deplorable. A world where ONLY YOUR VIEWS matter. Good bye you other half of the world, OUR show is just for us types who are cool. BARF. GAG me and I can't stand any of you lefties on the show that was NEVER YOURS to begin with. The Conners first two programs were well done00well written and well--acted. The third was a bit of a dud. It is hard to tell whether the writers will manage to propel the series forward toward a show with its own identity sans Roseanne Barr.

I note some politically motivated reviews here that seek to degrade the show because the authors support Barr's racist messages. Truly pathetic!

It would've been nice if the rest of the cast had of supported her... maybe just a little bit. And then continuing the series without her. It's like watching Batman with a bunch of Robins. No thanks!

The zero stars here remind me of questionable Yelp reviews (that violate the terms and are removed): if you haven't set foot in an establishment, whether it is a Trump hotel or a mom and pop operation, you can't write reviews. It is based on first-hand experiences, legit pluses and minuses. Is the food good? Was the service considerate? I understand the frustration of many about what happened to Roseanne, but it is what it is. The show should be based on its merits - and perhaps after actually watching several episodes would you have the right to comment here. Based on its dark tone addressing what happened to her character I am not sure what direction The Conners will go in. And perhaps I will adjust my rating accordingly. But I actually watched the episode, and was impressed with the maturity of it all. The fact that humor can be found, that the cast still gels, etc. was something to behold. It is, however, a work in progress, and I recommend giving it a chance. Expand

Rather than having Darlene step into her shoes as the no-nonsense matriarch of the family, they have given us a watered down, glib character that doesn't even resemble the funny, sarcastic Darlene of yesteryear much less Roseanne. DJ's churchy wife was so over the top unbelievable. She sounded more like what a writer's room full of degenerates think your average Christian must sound like, rather than your average, annoying churchgoer. The jokes that missed horribly about Roseanne's fate were groan-inducing. Writing this terrible has no chance of keeping this show on the air.

This season will be worse than when they won the lottery, but luckily no one will see it because it will get pulled before all 10 episodes air.

I could appreciate the serious topic of the show (which I won't ruin), but there were moments that made me think this show might work better as a drama. Lots of people talk about the stellar acting skills of Goodman and Metcalf. I don't think they were on display in this episode, but I think it's possible this first episode being about putting 'granny rose' into the history books, was a necessary inevitably forced premise, and that things might get better starting with episode 2. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This was a very difficult episode to conceive and execute, and it showed.

    1. The reveal of Rosie's cause of death was fumbled. Too quick and sloppy.
    2. Darlene was laughing at her gags with the audience -- which seemed too SNL breakish.
    3. When Becky is landing the best laughs you know something was off.

This doesn't mean the series is doomed or shouldn't have come back. It means the crew decided to rip this band aid off as quickly as possible instead of properly explore the topic over a few episodes.

Imagine if Barr hadn't said anything and actually passed away over the hiatus? Think of the care and feeling they would have offered her character and memory. Since many on set were properly infuriated by Barr's racist mental illness, again, it was clear they just wanted to get this part of the ordeal over with.

One scene that saved this transition episode from the trash heap was Mary Steenburgen's INCREDIBLE cameo (?). I put a question mark there because maybe there's a chance the producers are planning to have her and Dan bump into each other a few more times this season.

My biggest disappointment about this transition was not giving the series title to DARLENE. The show has always been about the loud mouthed matriarch and -- like it or not John and Jackie -- Darlene is the show's new core.

Loved how the show ended with the family around the table. Very nice touch. If Barr hadn't sunk herself on the S.S. Racist they'd have likely left an empty chair for her in memory of Rosie. But it's nice to know the show decided to move on without such hatred.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I feel the show has always been about the Conner family and the ups and downs they go through. With or without Rosanne I still enjoy it. On the other hand I have to admit I was let down when The Conners didn't fix some of the issues I had with the reboot of Rosanne. I really felt it was poor writing to have David turn out to be a dead beat Dad. Why couldn't they just have him working in the background or something until Johnny Galecki could more appear more frequently on the show. The other Issue I wished they had fixed was David's and Darlene's relationship. They went through so much together in the old show. There was so much growth with their relationship throughout the course of the show. David's character also grew and developed from a boy who was a little push over to a man Dan was proud to call his son in law. I felt the reboot just threw all that growth out the window. Expand

Before, I would never miss an episode of Roseanne. I've even watched the old reruns, some of them 10 times or more and they're still hilarious, and with The Conners, I could care less if I missed an episode or not. Not very impressed.

The result is a very interesting little sitcom, where what’s happening backstage reflects what’s happening on camera. It’s mostly about loss; for Dan, Darlene, and Jackie, it’s become about the redefinition of their roles in the Conner family. The setting snaps so familiarly into place that it’s like a time capsule.
