Shonda Rhimes makes silly melodramas full of overly emotional speeches and silly personal discussions during brain surgeries. Yet somehow I find myself watching everything she does (Well almost everything. How To Get Away With Murder does nothing for me). The Catch might be my favorite guilty pleasure of all of them. Peter Krause is a bit of a stretch as the debonair international thief Benjamin Jones. Mireille Enos' (The Killing) talents are probably wasted as Alice Vaughn but I'd watch anything Mireille Enos is in. Sure it's a bit hokey but I'll be damn if Ms. Rhimes hasn't hooked me again. At first I didn't think too much of this picaresque, but something about it made me come back for more and I'm glad I did. It's just gotten better since the first episode, the writing is sharp and has real wit. Unlike a lot of "light" entertainment it has genuine charm that never feels forced, and enough real heart to keep the whole thing from floating away into the ether. Guilt-free fun.

"The Catch" joins other Shondaland properties such as "Grey's Anatomy" and "Scandal" on ABC's #TGIT lineup. It follows Alice Vaughn (Mireille Eros from "The Killing"). It follows Alice Vaughn (Mireille Eros from "The Killing"). She the co-owner of a high end private detective agency called AVI. Her partner and BFF is Valerie Anderson. Alice is scheduled to marry her fiance Christopher Hall (Peter Krause). Alice seems to have the perfect life... but not for long. Her investigative skills are apparently on the fritz. Christopher is actually pumping her for intel about her rich clients. After one last scam, he disappears with the stolen goods and Alice's self respect. The rest of the season is spent in a cat and mouse game between Alice and Chris (call him Ben please).

"The Catch" reminds me a lot of "The Thomas Crown Affair"-- the excellent 1999 remake with Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo. Both are smart, sexy and sophisticated. While the lead character in the movie works alone, Ben is part of a group known as the Kenginston Firm. There's Margot (who is also he on again/off again bed buddy) and Reggie. The team must perform a series of heists in order to repay a debt to a "benefactor". I wont spoil it for you but we learn more about him later. Allegiances change throughout the season. It's impossible to figure out who is playing who. Can Ben be trusted or is he just playing a really loooong con. Will the AVI, Kensington or the FBI win in the end?

Excellent. Funny. Exciting. Smartish, Am sure dialogues can get a little smarter. Beautiful nice likeable cheeky characters. The American actors have this twinkle in their eyes which makes it hard to take them seriously. The Brits are absolutely hilarious portraying believable characters. Great props too. Nice to not having to see gore and blood and not having to listen to unnecessary profanities. Great show. Looking forward to season two. The women's dresses and the music btw: best of any series this year.. Expand

this show was pretty good and I think it will get even better as the season go's on I do agree with other reviewers that the lead male character was kind of off and should be recast before they get canceled because of no chemistry between the leads who are supposed to be in love

I think it's a great show with a lot of potential to come. It has an amazing cast and the chemistry between them all is on point. Great light show similar to Leverage. Well done to all those that work to create this Awesome Show :)

It’s heightened reality at its finest as Vaughan and her associates (Elvy Yost, Jay Hayden and Rollins) proceed to track down the con artists who hacked them and stop them before too much damage is done.

Despite the presence of Krause, Enos and Walger--all of whom have been standouts in modern TV classics--The Catch is barely worth investigating.

In many regards, The Catch certainly achieves its goals, but when the lives of every person on-screen revolve around one character and viewers are left wondering how a private investigation firm can afford a huge futuristic office with an enormous staff, it takes away from some of the fantasy.
