I love this series, it’s fun and I find it very funny. The characters are all likeable. The humour is a bit quirky, which I like.

Tune in to watch Lauren Ash slay it, week after week. Treat it like everyone else is just living in Dina's world and the series becomes compulsively watchable. Expand

I also like that it doesn't try too hard to be like The Office, despite having the same producer. Expand

The show could be really great, but the writers continuously bring liberal politics/policies into the show. There is so much more material they could use when writing a show like this, yet they choose to focus on liberal policies.

I quite liked season 1-3. And then season 4-5 happened and it all fell apart into poorly written characters and terrible plot writing overall.

Stuff that made me almost despise this show:
- Cheyenne and Bo, for some reason, do drugs! I mean, wth!? They have a kid and Cheyenne is a cool character. But yeah, let's ruin that by making her, and her otherwise cool spouse Bo, do loads of drugs in their spare time. There's no reason for it... It's just terrible.

- Glenn's unfailing support of the blatantly obviously money-hungry terrible, terrible human being Pastor Craig. I hate the Pastor Craig character with a passion. And it made me despise Glenn too. They started off hinting to Glenn's fanatical religious views. But they kept a lid on it for the most part. But as the seasons progressed, they started making it part of "his skit". And it ruined the otherwise likeable character from the first two seasons. And later on he's just gullible beyond belief and even starts stealing from the poor. Good job writing team.

- Amy going back and forth between being egotistic and being pro-union. She flips back and forth, and sometimes it's so annoying I almost couldn't keep watching. And the episodes where she wants to prove she's fun and crazy are just horrendously written. They turn her into such a stupid character during some parts.

- The Sandra Character... Yes. Probably the worst character of the show. She's all over the place. And her "romance" with Jerry is so cringe-inducing! She's a terrible human being hiding behind her "silent demeanor". More like, she's silent because she knows that everything that comes out of her mouth makes more people realize what a crazy person she is.

The show has a lot of highlights too though (phew):
- Myrtle! I love Myrtle (RIP Linda). She's so goofy and funny and well-acted. She was a huge part of why I liked the first seasons.

- Mateo, like him for the most part. Especially the stuff where he and Cheyenne does goofy stuff. That worked well, too bad they stopped doing it so quickly.

- Dina, overall like her. She's the Dwight of Superstore. And she's consistently quirky in her personality throughout the show. Not like some of the others who are just all over the place all the time.

- Brett! Ha, so silly, but so funny. He always just stands there.

- Garrett, like him too. He's sort of the anchor that keeps the show somewhat sane. And he's pretty funny too.

- Cheyenne! Apart for the fact that they wrote her to be a drug abuser, I love her for the most part.

- Bo! "Waah, waaaaah!". He's just so oddly fascinating, even though he such a doofus. But I love his over-the-top shenanigans. Again, except for the fact that the writers decided to make him a drug abuser.

- Marcus, like him for the most part. He's this half-shy, half-flamboyant bro type who doesn't seem to have any homies. He's also pretty consistent in personality, which has somehow become a plus for the show, because so many of the others just keep flip-flopping all over the place.

- Jonah. He's sort of an odd character. I quite like him, but he's also oddly placed in the show. But I guess that does bring some kind of dynamic. He stopped being interesting when he actually started dating Amy. Their internal dynamic is not working well.

So, I'd recommend the first seasons. But just know that you will be increasingly aggravated by the writing as they progress through the seasons. And season 5 is just the worst.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Please don't watch this. It feels like at best an average The Office with Jonah and Amy acting like Jim and Pam. It also feels like a little like Parks and Recreation but they are doing it wrong. The cast is weak. It's one of the reasons why it didn’t win nor was nominated for an Emmy or Golden Globe barely got nominated for one Critic's Choice. I have seen that they took so many lines and scenes of both The Office and Parks and Recreation. When I saw it was in the Globe Globe's Party episode where Amy's house doesn't have cable and they are playing games at the end it was Amy and Dina when they are together alone after everybody left and the cable was back on and they see the end of the Golden Globes, now in Parks and Recreation, The Debate episode where the candidates are speaking, Andy and April don't have cable and they talk talking stories, Ron goes to the electricity pole and switches the cable feed from another house and then the cable is back on where they see the end of The Debate. This show is too much of a copycat but in a very bad way. I have seen shows that are copycat and work but this one sucks. The cast is unlikeable. I feel out of touch like it is fake. I cannot relate with the character. Amy sabotaging Jonah and Kelly's relationship is so messed up like f**k you Amy. You are the worst. Then in the last episode of Season 3, she was having sex with Jonah. This made Jonah and Kelly brake up as Amy was in mist of sabotaging their relationship. It was so embarrassing and cringe that I ended the show Season 3 Episode 22. The worst show I have seen in my life. America made it all about her. Piece of garbage of a show. Don’t even produce a show again please. The show is so forgettable and didn’t have charisma at all. I hate half the cast, especially Dina, Amy, Glenn a little, Justine, Marcus and Mateo. Worst cast I have seen in a while. Tbh, it is a bad thing. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Overall, this is a fairly decent show. The first season starts out fine enough and if you enjoy quirky characters, some over the top moments, the show has a good-sized heart. The ensemble is pretty endearing with the typical two characters who keep circling around each other, the will-they-won't-they fodder. These two, namely Amy and Jonah (Ferrara and Feldman) are fairly bland. But doesn't matter: there's Dina, the female Cartman of the group (played by Lauren Ash, who takes her character to the nth degree) and Garret (Dunn) whose sarcasm and snide humor bring on chuckles. Sakura's Cheyenne, a teen working at the store, is so fun to watch as she brings so much sincere naivety to her role. With these main four and of course, Mark McKinney's Glenn, the high-pitched voiced manager, it was a pleasure to watch. I had some fantastic laugh out loud moments. There is some great absurd stuff here. The only problem is that the writers... well... they like to get into political brow-beating. It is noticeable early on... but forgivable. Easy to ignore. But the lefty crap starts to get worse by the fourth season (and the end of the season... lord...), and in the fifth it is annoying if not embarrassing. In fact, if you're interested in giving it a watch, I would quit after the fourth season because the fifth is where it lost me. Not just shoving the 'message' down the viewers throats, but the characters, in fact, get stupider and become worse versions of themselves. If only writers would focus more on making characters redeemable and three-dimensional instead of bullhorns for the latest agenda driven bullcrap. I can recommend it, but again, seasons 1 to 4. Superstore has is not a perfect show. But it makes up for it with characters the audience will become invested in. If you have worked a minimum wage dead-end retail job that you are somehow inexplicably nostalgic for, you will enjoy Superstore.

Piercingly relatable and heartwarming by turns. Brilliant cast. Often topical, never preachy. Tempting to compare, favorably, with The Office (American). An absolute triumph.

Would have been good if it wasn't trying to be The Office - Retail Edition. But unlike The Office, Superstore tries too hard to push agendas. Especially as the seasons progressed. But from around Season 4 it really went downhill.
