A profoundly terrible show trying to shove woke politics down your throat instead of interesting sci-fi stories. IMDB $cores are heavily manipulated.

The original series was noteworthy for the inclusion of black females, this new series still has males in it, even a white one. Other than that social justice statement very little is similar to the original series. The original series made the cast sit on crappy, plastic school assembly hall chairs, the new series is all nice chairs and acres of glass, just the thing for a combat style ship. The original series had a quasi military hierarchy to match it's quasi military role, the new series dumps that approach for one that could be best described as emotional middles school consensus, so very wake and unrealistic. The dialogue in the original series might be described as, common, semi-formal, now it's pubescent cool. The original music score may not have been anything to write home about but the new one you would write home about- to say it's not very good.

The actors, well the captain delivers one of the most wooden intro's you are likely to hear (the 5 year mission speech). The doctor, a mere faint shadow of McCoy and the nurse, well has the doctor's role and virtually no chest, a recurring mis-targeting of what the original series was. Gone are the days of attractive women with big **** in short skirts and in with women who, well, you wouldn't look at twice (with the exception of Spock's mate).

Put another way, it's out with a target audience of young adult males 17-25 and with kids

Season 1 was amazing. Season 2 is just super weird, latest episode was a musical. To date, up to episode 9 is it? There's just no story or consistency, such a huge shame. Season 1 was awesome...

I do not think, this is Star Trek. I think, it rather is Star Dreck. Unable to create something new, they mutate beloved classic TV into a travesty. The special effects are very nice.

Season 2 starts off with girl boss domination - and no one is buying it. Leave this show to the sexual virtue signalling writers and sycophants.. men, the actual audience who wrote and made this franchise what it is.. are done with it.

Gene Roddenberry’s wonderful legacy was created to champion exactly the opposite: an ideal. His vision of a mankind that finally conquers all distinctions and sets out to explore the universe was deeply meaningful to millions of people across planet Earth. A such, “Star Trek” helped shape the character of many young men and women. Roddenberry dreamed of a noble humanity that we can aspire to. It can even be seen as a guide to proper behavior in the face of adversity as well as an attempt to imagine what incredible ends we can achieve if we can only get past our own selfish and petty grievances. In a nation of people who have lost their identity; in a generation that would rather reject math, science and reality, and at a time when freedom of speech is under attack: replaced by a spineless need to serve as the voice of a political machine, “Star Trek” has been sacrificed. Its message has been completely lost, as it now serves only to trumpet an inhuman perception; one that claims that mankind is irrevocably monstrous. “Strange New Worlds” takes the heroes of a generation and disfigures them, completely ignoring their written past and their achievements. It then proceeds to warp the entire Roddenberry universe to the ends of Woke politics. In this distorted and now tainted presentation: men are corrupt and incredibly short sighted, women are perfect and flawless, and the only way to create balance is thru imbalance. It is a deeply racist and sexist agenda, which pervades every aspect of its product. Helmed by a man who has made it clear he has no love or understanding of the Star Trek universe (and said so even before beginning work on the IP), Alex Kurtzman has sold his soul. He has betrayed his own race, gender and nation by selling Woke ideology to the vulnerable masses. His complete lack of insight, consideration and depth mars his every enterprise, decidedly creating havoc in an industry that was meant to be artistic and has instead turned capitalistic. “Strange New Worlds” is a facsimile of “Star Trek”. One with no spirit and one that pays absolutely no respect its roots or identity. I cannot recommend such a bastardization of a beloved franchise and it is my hope that this explanation will help society grasp why Trekkies are enraged, disturbed and distressed by what the intellectual property has become. Roddenberry is, quite literally, turning in his grave. Expand

Originally guesting on the once excellent (now ruined) Star Trek Discovery, the bulk of the cast were fun and refreshing yet here, where they are shoehorned into a 60’s retro revisit, they come off as a lackluster and fake list of cartoon heroes who gave been built for kids.
They have to their credit brought life to an array of original characters many of whom we have not seen for years (sans Janice Rand) but this is all a wasted opportunity. Forcing left-leaning ideals at every turn, each episode races at light speed from start to finish without the audience ever forming any genuine connection to the characters. Theres a constant reinforcement that ‘that they are the best in Starfleet’ yet the lower ranks engage in disagreements with their superiors at every turn as though they are actually equals, whilst swanning about the decks with their long hair and free spirits.
Its all droll and try-hard.
Great special effects do not alone make this a great spectacle as it has been almost strategically sterilised with political correctness and covered in layers of what is fashionable rather than built up with real substance to be of any serious value. Six episodes in and I cannot do it anymore. You may well have just gone too woke, which will cause this series to go, well, broke.

There's just a deep sense of unease watching this. 10 minutes in and I was feeling agitated. something is badly wrong. I feel like there's very little in the way of substance. it seems like nothing really happens except for a recap of what happened in STD. The characters just ooze wokeness. I have no problem with the concept of who the characters are, but something about it feels off. it feels like ticking boxes. it feels too 'clever' and 'stylish'. I have to say though, after the first ten minutes, my feeling of unease dissipated and I just felt like I was watching quality star trek again. mainly because I had put on DS9 and was happily watching Bashir befriending Garak XD Expand

Some of the acting is not well done. The main character Pike is incredibly boring and not fleshed out. Yes I know his entire backstory. It's not fleshed out here or elsewhere. We are supposed to give him a huge amount of credit for all the epic things he must've done to get to where he is as a leader in the Federation. However we've barely ever seen him actually do anything before this show. His acting style is "lol that's ok, I'm chill." That could work on a comedy star trek like lower decks, but this is not a comedy. He acts like he's on a family comedy show on abc family with a live studio audience. Some of the other characters are good some of the time, but several are one note and boring. Much of the acting is monotone and done with flat affect. Compare that to the extremely expressive face of Michael Burnham from Discovery. The stories have been half ok and half boring with giant plot holes and unexplained key plot features in almost every episode. This show is not for people who care about science fiction and star trek, but seemingly for people who want to check out mentally and casually consume a star trek type of show. My friend and I love star trek discovery because of the acting, the character building, the fascinating stories, and the incredible visuals. We have been incredibly bored while watching every episode of this show so far.
We just finished episode 8. If they make a great comeback this season I will edit the review. Discovery went hard with huge stakes, war, life and death, and sheer peril being dealt with in almost every episode. This show has been an absolute snorefest.

Yes it leaned on tired interpersonal drama to tug it along, and yes it kept resorting to angsty-teen comedic elements that weighed it down, but when it actually decided to focus on its name sake, exploring "strange new worlds," its story telling was okay and it managed to punch above the rest of the mediocre to just plain bad Star Trek that has unfortunately taken over the franchise in recent years. But it can't decide if it is low-rent comedy for angsty-teens who want poorly scripted interpersonal-drama, or a legitimate science fiction drama for adults, and the former seems to be winning out. Season one had a point where it looked like it was going to keep getting better. It was casting off its legacy of being attached, story-wise, to that train-wreck called STD, and it was focusing on good storytelling and intriguing concepts. I was looking forward to season two. But then season two actually arrived and it was like they brought in a whole new writing team that had been ported over from a low-budget WB Christmas special or something. Not to say it doesn't have strong moments, but unfortunately it has become gimmicky, deciding that it wants to focus more on the angsty-teen stuff and the interpersonal drama. And then came the cross-overs with angsty-teen cartoons, and musical episodes that felt like a waste of time and potential -- literally the the lowest possible forms of entertainment that a show can dip into (and usually the stuff that writers don't resort to until 8 seasons into a show that won't die and they have plain run out of ideas for it). We are there in season two...that does not bode well for its future. Honestly, my hopes of Strange New Worlds becoming the quality Star Trek that so many fans have been looking forward to has been greatly diminished. It just isn't there anymore. The fan base has been supplanted by a simpler audience and the quality of the show is catering to that demographic. The chances of that improving are likely zero.

So my review is that SNW is merely okay science fiction that, at this point, has more bad about it than good. It can be interested, it can even be good, but mostly it is just more teen television trying to moonlight as quality entertainment on occasion.
