With season 2, this also goes down the toilet. Shame, had a good start but seems like they just couldn't hold back with all the "modern" storytelling. If you ask me, all Hollywood writers currently in strike deserve to stay that way. If crap like this is what they produce on their workdays, they should stay the f out. Absolute garbage.

Where are the men? Where are the male role models? Where is the action? Too much talk. I'm a chick but this is far below my standards for even chick flicks and female empowerment. It's trash. It's too political. What happened to caring about good writing?

This New Trek drives people apart, because they can't match the writing in TOS, TNG, DS9, and STV. The writing is horrible. There is no equality in the series. They take the Captain out of the first three episodes. I guess they don't need a Captain. The Captain, Una Chin, Nurse Chapel, and Spock are my favorite characters. Not one of them plays in the third episode. The Captain doesn't play in any of the first three. This is not Gene Roddenberry's Star Trek. Expand

That being said, the push to put the "woke" story lines and "woke" character traits in SNW sour the overall feeling of the show. Yeah, even Roddenberry pushed the supposed utopia of the future in all his Star Treks, but when it is too pervasive and too preachy, it just doesn't play well. There is a fine line between helping a viewer "discover" an epiphany in a well crafted plot line, and just bludgeoning us with the obvious woke agendas.

I want to like this show, and there is such a lack of good entertainment on network and in the streaming apps, I will likely watch it, but the flaws continue to irritate.

Total **** Far too much politics and too little fun. Kinda crazy how far Star Trek has descended from the 60s version, the first motion pictures, then the Picard era, then the crappy Jar Jar Abrahms era, then the superwoke Discovery, and now this crap.

Waiting for Discovery I guess, and maybe I’ll start rewatching The Expanse. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First let's remove the evil white Captain Pike from the episode. Then let's make Spock so stupid that he can't figure out how to steal his ship. He had to be womansplained how to do it. Then write a really boring story, and have everyone run around with their warrior Doctor, and call it action packed like the critics did. This was the worst episode that I've watched. Not a good way to start the second season. I couldn't finish the episode, it was just too horrible to watch. Expand

Gene Roddenberry is rolling in his grave. This is not Star Trek. This is the fever-dream of far leftist, marxist activists. The ideals of Star Trek do not exist in this show whatsoever. I had so much hope for Season 2. Season 1 was great, finally star trek like TOS and TNG used to be. Season 2 is a very mixed bag. Some episodes are ok, some are complete trash, and then there is the cross-over episode with Lower Decks ...

Somehow even worse than the first awful season. Whatever hope Trek fans had that Picard season 3 had somehow been a course change for Paramount+ has been extinguished; it’s back to the usual song and dance. All we can do is hope Paramount eventually loses so many viewers they’re forced to admit defeat, but knowing the culture in Hollywood, that won’t be until they’re bankrupt.

I understand that if you got used to JJ Abrams, you might not see the scope of it and how the Star Trek IP holder tried to create such a show for 20 years, with multiple attempts... Think Discovery or Picard, which have more in common with JJ Abrams than New Generation or Voyager. But in my opinion, it was about time to take inspiration from Next Generation and Voyager, even if some subtle moral or legal episodes may upset viewers seeking for action and hard sci-fi. It is exactly what the 90s Star Trek often was best at, compared to, say, Star Wars, or newer sci-fi franchises such as The Expense. Expand

The world is going to be a tough place if you get triggered over a show having a not exclusively white cast, and having well written women that aren't just objects of desire or damsels in distress needing to be saved by the hero. It must be so hard to just enjoy a good show for what it is when you see a black person or a lesbian and then run to Metacritic to leave a 0/10 and cry woke.

Some people here are saying "star trek is now run by woke leftists that think profit is bad", as if this show isn't literally based in a moneyless, profitless, classless society that is the Federation. Look up the definition of communism while you're at it, because yeah, no **** Star Trek has always been progressive, even back in the 70s, the natural progression as societal attitudes shift would be it becoming even more progressive.

But yeah, deeply enjoyed the first 4 episodes, very excited for what is to come. If it continues on like this I reckon it'll end up being even better than the first season. Incels, lighten up and chill out.
