After Voyager ended a new Star Trek show was green-lighted. They chose the idea of a prequel. It is the story of the first human spaceship that sets out to explore the realm outside of our solar system. It is set 90 years after the first contact with the Vulcans. The Vulcans wanted to protect and guide mankind because they though they were not read for space exploration yet (I think they were at least partly correct). This lead of cause to some animosity. Everything is new here. Shields were not properly inveted by humans, warp 5 is fast, phasers are called phaser pistols, universal translators are unreliable, other species are unknown outside of data files for humanity, teleportation is new and not trusted. Many concepts like red alert or the prime directive do not exist and there is no Federation yet. It is a fresh and new setting. For me there are however some problems with this. As fan I know the basic history of the Federation and Earth. This takes away some tension and I can foresee events and predict some outcomes. Then there is the crew. I say they chose a good crew that is a bit to unremarkable. Before you get angry ask yourself: “Is there anyone who you would choose as best Star Trek captain, doctor, engineer or officer from this show?” No and I have yet to find anyone that does. Again that means not that they are bad. Lets start with the crew. Scott Bakula is an excellent actor and I enjoyed Quantum Leap. He is good as captain Archer but nothing special. Ask a fan who is the best Star Trek captain and say it is Archer and you will see disbelieve because they never considered it even as an option (Sisko by the way for me). Jolene Blalock as T’Pol is my favorite character and her arcs are interesting. Dominic Keating as Malcom Reed is underused and sometimes a bit uninteresting. John Bilingsley as Dr. Phlox is my other favorite. He is interesting character wise and has often good roles in the stories. Linda Park as Hoshi Sato has her moments in the show and won me over but I will say they could have done more with her. Connor Trinneer as Trip is my third favorite character here. I must admit that he can be annoying sometimes. The story lines are great. You can see the first glimpses of the Federation, a cold war story-line (not that one), the Xindi arc, the Sulibans struggles and some fanservies or should I say Easter eggs. Also you see some relations of the alien races that are rocky. Like the Vulcans and Andorians being at each others throats. Everything is new here as each encounter is a first contact. There are also some social themes like xenophobia or what course should humanity set. There are also different philosophies in alien cultures that differ from later shows. I will get into some spoiler free details in my reviews for the seasons. Season 1 was a mixed bag for me, season 2 was a lot better, season 3 was really good and season 4 was relatively good except the final episode. Overall a solid show but it did not reach full potential or earned enough fan acclaim. Expand

Enterprise has a bit of a rough starts but really gets going as the seasons go on that puts a lot of emphasis on character building and growing the understanding of the characters unlike Star trek Discovery as an example where the characters seem to just be the smartest people ever instantly with no work ro real character building Expand

The last good Star Trek series. I'd much rather have had more seasons of this than the follow ups.

Unlike Star Trek Discovery, Star Trek Enterprise is a fun prequel with decent episodes. It deals with the crew of an experimental starship in the 22nd century, a century before the adventures of Captain Kirk, Mr Spock and Dr McCoy.

The flaws of this crew are refreshing yet they remain quite likeable throughout, never becoming **** like the characters of Star Trek Discovery.

CBS CEO Les Moonves cancelled Star Trek Enterprise after its 4th season but the 4 seasons that did get made, hold a lot of promise and you might find yourself wanting more after the penultimate episode.

Well written TV series on the early Enterprise missions. Nicely done and well worth watching again.
