I tried to like it, hard, but it didn't work for me. I believe it has to do with the lack of actual scientific discovery, Star Trek lore, and the lack of episodic writing known from the past series. I see what they do and why they are doing it, but this is not what Star Trek stands for, in my opinion. Instead of focussing on the strengths of the Star Trek narrative and universe, they seem to be too influenced by modern generic Star Wars films and series, and cheap and commercially unsuccessful fantasy series of recent years. The latter is worth mentioning, I guess, because it is astonishing how many generic fantasy series bombed commercially recently, and it looks (without googling it) that Discovery's team is either part of those teams, or at least influenced by it. But I will rewatch it in a few years. Expand

This is Star Trek in name only. As a standalone Sci Fi series it might have worked, but almost nothing about tone, pace, or characters in this show is true to Star Trek.

The third season just became something strange full of cringe moments. It's basically deus ex machina meets Mary Sue, and a bunch of superfluous nonsense, and I'm not at all talking about the virtue signaling. The characters have forgotten who they are and the ends of the storylines make no sense. Expand

Why do they bother? This is just sad. Go watch The Orville! The best season of Star Trek in decades. Hell even The Mandalorian is better Star Trek than this.

But somehow too many episodes are just passing by. One lost chance after another. Good acting had no chance to save the bad directing and writing. For the first time in star trek history i struggled to keep watching.

For season 2 there seemed to be some shift in focus. Leading to a slight improvement in quality of main storyline. They probably also intended to show more "emotion" in the series. But they overdid it so much that what they accomplished is to portrait women as unable to be professional, overly emotional and mentally unstable in one way or another. I found my eyes rolling several times at how they perpetuate this harmful stereotype. Overall it is confusing how the series turned out to be much less good than it could and should have been. The budget clearly is big enough to accomplish much more. At this point i have to rate it 05/10.

Firs season was ok, but it got worse with every episode. Second and third seasons represent endless meaningless drama.

However, I didn't like the overall tone of the show. It is named 'Discovery', yet there is no discovering, or exploration anywhere in the show, just constant power struggles, action movie shooting, emotional drama, and everything is centered around a single unbeatable, flawless superhero - Michael Burnham, everyone else either feels forced into the story, or is irrelevant, as long as there's Burnham to solve everything. Season 1 was not as bad as I thought afters taking in public opinion. Having said that , by season 3 it becomes almost unwatchable. I have found myself hanging in there to find out what happens, but struggling to tolerate the insistent wokeness and the entire crews constant need for a psych eval to explore their feelings of inadequacy in every other scene of every episode. OMG, even the computer system ends up needing emotional support... It's just over the top. I love all things Star Trek and I really wanted this to be good. But, it would seem that this portion of the franchise has been badly hurt by the social ideologies of it's writers. Expand

Much of the humor doesn't work. It's way too talky. Sonequa Martin-Green is fine in the lead, but not stellar. The "Mudd" episodes were genuinely horrible. Shazad Latif is all wrong for his role, as is Mary Wiseman, among many others in the cast that just don't work. I liked Jason Isaacs as Lorca, but the twist in his story is absurd. I thought he was perfectly cast as a Picard-type, and I wanted him to show wisdom not be a bad guy from a parallel universe. There is far too much borrowed from the old shows and I want this Star Trek to go where no other Star Trek has gone before. Especially after "Battlestar Gallactica" raised the bar for TV science fiction. Battlestar was gutsy and had gravity. It's also a failure of writing. Discovery's grandstanding gets old very quickly. Stop talking so much and show me a bold new universe. Note: the season started strongly, but quickly lost momentum after the first Mudd episode and it was all downhill from there. Expand

Storytelling is consistent for the most part. A certain mystery keeps the story flowing and keeps the viewer interested and connected. But it simply doesn't fit into the Star Trek gore. The promoted ideas, especially technology-wise, feel like the writers had the goal to show a superlative of the previously known and this is the best that they could come up with. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Season 3 is absolutely awful. Love Michael. Good character, but it feels like the show was written by Guardian journalists. It’s woke beyond belief, no macho men anywhere, just a rainbow brigade.

The stories are incomprehensible too, maybe because the program just bored me and I wasn’t paying attention.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Star Trek Discovery is a good series, superior to Star Trek Enterprise, but it doesn't reach the level of Voyager or Deep Space Nine. One of its strengths lies in the evolution of most characters. However, i was slightly disappointed by the time travel plot, which was also a criticism i had for Star Trek Enterprise. On the other hand, i thoroughly enjoyed the storyline involving the Mirror Universe. As for the ability to instantly travel anywhere in the universe , it felt somewhat exaggerated and excessive. It was alright enough. I wouldn't watch it again and it won't stick with me. I've already forgotten most of it.

Lacks the magic of the earlier series. Which is honestly par for the course with all the New Trek.
