    After the very good 2nd season, I was ready for the story to fall apart. SURPRISE! Season 3 is as coherent or even better than season two. It appears the whole season was mapped out as a whole first. By the third act, a three parter, many earlier threads pay off handsomely.

    My guess on the negative user reviews here is Discovery is a kinder-gentler Star Trek. It is a more feminine Star Trek driven by the female characters and the androgenous Doug Jones as Saruu. To aging male Trekkers, this may seem like blasphemy.

    The series is turning into a gritty version of Star Trek in the far future, so at least there are fewer continuity problems introduced by this prequel. This season has some interesting concepts about the downfall of the Federation and cosmic resource constraints but they turn the franchise into an even more hopeless, griam universe.

    The series still suffers from sloppily written stories, dialogues, and characters you can't identify with. Problems are simply solved by Michael Burnham. And every episode is always about Michael Burnham (and her "personality") like Unification III or even when she's not present in an episode. She's still supposed to be the hero of the series, but since she's not the captain of the Discovery, she's not in a position to make the big decisions, yet she has all the answers and rebels without consequence (because she's always right in the end).
    After three seasons and with the exception of Saru, I still have trouble remembering the names of most of the characters on the ship (especially those on the bridge). And then there's Tilly, whose main job is to be funny, which makes it hard to take this character seriously. Emperor Georgiou, former tyraness and mass murderess, hangs around the ship and I kept wondering what she does all day? She becomes everyone's friend, from whom everyone has learned so much, really?! New characters are introduced who are less shallow than the rest of the established crew.
    It's becoming a tradition that the finale is the worst episode of the season. The epic turbolift scene either suggests that the Discovery is the size of a small moon or the producers have no sense of proportions. This scene just illustrates how the attention to "detail" is in this series. Maybe, they just do not care as long as any idea looks and sounds cool enough? At least the costumes, masks, and visuals are very good at movie level. The Star Trek easter eggs (props) are neat too. All in all, I wish they had invested the budget in better stories, character development, and dialogues.    … Expand

    The show keeps rebooting itself each season, almost always for the worse. I gave up four episodes into S.3, the ham-fisted acting and horrible plotlines just becoming too much to bear. I hope Strange New Worlds returns us to the optimism and hope of the original Star Trek. This isn't Trek at all...

    Overwhelmingly emotional characters. Be prepared for at least 10 minutes of sobbing scenes in each episode to the point of annoyance. I stopped caring, couldn't go past episode 6.

    I really loved season 2 of Star Trek Discovery. season 3 shows us some new cultures, new planets, while we still see some amazing space. When showing us all those fancy places, season 3 still has a focus on the micro plot. While the plot is a 9/10 it is too compact to satisfy all that the Star Trek fans are expecting. There is almost no focus on technical explantation of plot relevantI really loved season 2 of Star Trek Discovery. season 3 shows us some new cultures, new planets, while we still see some amazing space. When showing us all those fancy places, season 3 still has a focus on the micro plot. While the plot is a 9/10 it is too compact to satisfy all that the Star Trek fans are expecting. There is almost no focus on technical explantation of plot relevant context. We criticised the amount of action in season one and some of it was replaced with politics and background story in season 2. So, why do I end up with 7/10? Well, season 3 still has a great story, but it is missing one or two additional rich characters with. We have a very strong Burnham and one could ask if she really has to be the main aspect of every side story in this episode. What we are missing is the character diversity like for example in Deep Space 9. This is an issue the first two episodes didn’t have and which could have been easily avoided. It makes the third season as flat as Star Trek could be.

    I would really recommend viewing it. Yes, we do miss some strong characters at the end, but this is not a show stopper at all and could be easily fixed in the next season.    … Expand

I keep it brief, anything else would be a waste of time: terrible storytelling, no likable characters, the explanation for the “burn” is as stupid as it gets… I could go one for hours I guess. “Wokeness” and diversity are over-the-top and in a completely un-Startrek like manner, but that also is nothing new. Illogical behavior and refusal to obey orders are in the endThey did it again!     Back to the roots! Hell YEAH! I seriously like how season 3 achieves the turn to what Star Trek and the Federation are standing for! Can't wait for season 4!

    Slow uninspired storytelling and awful scriptwriting. The season gets worse as it goes along with a truly terrible season end. There are multiple episodes where you could watch the first 5 minutes and the last 5 minutes and miss out on nothing at all. This show has been dumbed down to the point where its meaningless sci-fi drivel, how anyone could rate this anything like a 10/10 is beyond me.

    Season 1 was the best Star Trek ever written, the original writers producers and directors deserve high praise. Season 3 is an estrogen filled emotional wreck that is so tiresome in its sentimentality. Its made me turn it off mid episode after we could no longer endure Burnhams long solo, tear filled over the top acting.

It seems that current showrunners understood nothing of Brian Fuller's vision, instead making everyone treat Michael as the centre of the universe (despite s1 explaining exactly why she was being treated as special by one specific character - it was literally resolved back then). Such a lost opportunity. Boring plotlines,After a great first season, s2 was simplistic, and so is s3.     I enjoyed Discovery seasons 1 and 2 - but season 3 is awful. Terrible writing, mawkish sentimental storyline and so slow I would rather watch paint dry.

    Pluses are the underlying story, which is interesting. The space travel effects are good. Impressive location for the first few episodes. Michelle Yeoh is still in it and the lead has new hair and is sexier. Negs are poor special effects for extraterrestrial worlds, bar the first one , the lack of Pike and the new trans non binary line, which is excessively soppy and mawkish.     Very much enjoyed the first two seasons, but I struggle to watch season 3. Very slow story telling, overacting at nearly every corner. From excitement about the next episode being released I switched to complete inference by the end of episode 4

    After 5 episodes of season 3, I can say this is the best season of star trek in 25 years. The characters are established and there's so much fun and emotion to be had. The time jump has allowed some real """"startrek"""" stories to be told and everything feels more at ease and more potent at the same time. I can't wait for more.

    This show goes from strength to strength, the cast are deep and the future is exciting. I love the last few seasons but it feels like its finding its own path.

    The first season had a tendency to drop minor mysteries and plotlines like hot potatoes in service of a messy greater narrative, and the enormous improvements of season 2 still didn't correct this. But that seems to be gone now, and what a difference its made - the storytelling is so much stronger and more confident for    Based on the first five episodes, Discovery has finally found itself.

    The first season had a tendency to drop minor mysteries and plotlines like hot potatoes in service of a messy greater narrative, and the enormous improvements of season 2 still didn't correct this. But that seems to be gone now, and what a difference its made - the storytelling is so much stronger and more confident for it. It's also committing to a far more optimistic view of the future than it's told before, where struggle means more than just survival and where battle is, once again, what you do when you've exhausted every other option (and there's always a way to outthink an opponent if you can find it in time). It's a show that has never lacked heart, but now it's found a story worthy of the best of these characters, and a place for them to grow properly... Yeah. I'm back in.    … Expand

Unfortunately, I am unable to give this show a fairer score of around 4/10 simply due to the 26 people who decided to vote this show a 10/10, which it clearly is not. Since people have decided that ratings on this website are a binary option, the show gets a zero.

    Anyway, Star Trek Discovery continues it's cynical venture into the Star Trek Universe, now finished with ruining the past of the Trek Universe, it has leaps into the future to ruin that. The show opens with the Federation being completely dismantled and in it's recent episode it pays mild lip-service the previous prequel show "Enterprise" in an attempt to tie itself to Treks gone by.

    However this show continues to be Trek in name only, I've recently re-watched TNG & Voyager and have just began watching TOS. This show still lacks what those shows had in abundance, and that is heart and a bright vision for the future of humanity.    … Expand

Beware of the haters who are working hard on insisting that the show isn't good, even in the face of critics consistently saying that it is. Some wanted Discovery to be like previous shows, someDiscovery has always been a great show and with season 3 we see it strengthen a lot of things Star Trek fans like myself like: optimism, exploration, diplomacy, camaraderie and a sense of wonder. Beware of the haters who are working hard on insisting that the show isn't good, even in the face of critics consistently saying that it is.     This season has been the best trek in a long time, everyone giving this a negative review is very much stuck in the past. Season one definitely was rocky, season 2 found a balance between old and new, and season 3 is thriving on it. Trek was about exploring everything and discovering the unkown this is the first time Trek has given that inspiration to me in a long time.     Unless this is a TV show focused on simpletons and pre-school children, it can't excuse the horrible lazy writing and plotholes. Watching this is really not a pleasant experience.

Been on the edge of my chair every episode. Great writing, excellent acting. Can't wait to see where the story goes...… Expand

    Discovery S3 is going for the cheap shots with lazy research and formula script writing. They got the Klingons wrong in season 1. S2 was fantastic, S3 I think I would rather watch reruns of Andromeda.

    The series settles into the chaos of the 32nd century after the second episode, when we see what happened to Discovery and its crew and witness Burnham adapt to the survivalist spirit of this new age.
