I can absolutely confirm: Season 3 of Star Trek: Discovery is poised to be the series’ best yet. ... It takes everything the first two seasons did best—namely, Michael and Saru’s hard-earned friendship; the deep commitment felt by everyone aboard the Discovery to both the ideals of the Federation and science; and Georgiou, just as a general agent of chaos—while dispensing entirely with all the baggage five decades of 23rd-century Star Trek storytelling that had originally weighed it down.

Good storytelling is what we get in the first four episodes of “Season 3” that have been made available for critics to review.

The temporal shift enlivens the fabled franchise with a new sense of adventure and purpose once they learn the status of a diminished Federation. [26 Oct - 8 Nov 2020, p.13]

Discovery is a show given to histrionics, but stripped of its familiar setting, it now reaches for profundity with a little more assurance.

Ultimately it’s the characters who shine this season, and that hold the show together. The ensemble has hit its groove in Season 3, and everyone gets time in the spotlight. ... The first four episodes feel sleeker and breezier; lighter, like Burnham.

The series settles into the chaos of the 32nd century after the second episode, when we see what happened to Discovery and its crew and witness Burnham adapt to the survivalist spirit of this new age.

It’s fine? I guess? ... Thankfully, “Discovery” doesn’t seem to be pulling-a-“Voyager” and jettisoning its “far from home” premise.

This shift to a more ensemble-driven, idea-focused format is welcome. Despite a premiere that augurs poorly for its broader narrative arc, Discovery’s third season at least momentarily succeeds in thinking about undiscovered things to come.

They've somehow managed to make the show even worse! Bravo I guess.

Moving the setting to the future is a good move but comes far too late and the changes they've made are silly

First two seasons were fantastic. This one is full of emotional non sense speech that bores me to death. It hurts to watch.
