Cast is very good portraying mostly fully developed and interesting characters. While the story and directing is more or less efficient and even fun at times, the con man story feels like we've seen this a million time before. It's the type of show you can watch while folding laundry but don't expect to be inspired, only mildly entertained.

While Sneaky Pete is solidly acted and features plenty of interesting conflicts and characters, the plot can't help feel derivative and less than engaging for long stretches of the show.

Sometimes, good shows have a premise that simply lacks the legs to go beyond season one. Sadly, Sneaky Pete is one of those shows. With too many silly plot lines and sub-stories to keep track of, the second season feels more like a series of one-act plays written by TV network drama hacks, but freed up to use naughty words. With too many silly plot lines and sub-stories to keep track of, the second season feels more like a series of one-act plays written by TV network drama hacks, but freed up to use naughty words. As good as the first season was at making us care about Marius (Pete) and his newly discovered family, season two makes us wish the new bad guy (of course a Eastern European mobster) would just walk in and exterminate the whole whiny, sullen, depressing bunch. I can't tell you how tiring it is watching Grampa and Grandma vacillate from hard-as-nails bail bondsmen to elderly simpletons, afraid of their own shadows. The lead actors do the best they can with clunky lines, used on overtly expositional monologues (because it is clearly designed to keep low intellect viewers up to speed). The acting is so bad that one finds themselves laughing out loud at FBI agents who should be arrested for impersonating actors in a TV show. I waited so long for season two, now a can't wait until I am through with this turkey forever. Expand

At first you’re rolling your eyes at what seems an absurd stretch of a premise, but soon enough you’re buying its always-on-edge predicaments and after a few episodes you’re hooked into its story-upon-story acrobatics. Pete may be sneaky, but he’s not dull.

After a shaky start, Pete gets denser, trickier and better.

By the time you reach the cliffhanger--which did not leave me excited to check out season two, even though I generally liked season one--you’ll probably have recognized Sneaky Pete for the largely fun, largely inoffensive, largely unnecessary trifle it is. But, hey, TV needs trifles too.
