Silo as a TV series embraces monotony to a fault. It's the kind of show that presents something relevant only in the final minute to make you want to watch the next episode, but the 59 minutes before that are a pain to watch...

The first 2 episodes were strong, so much happened, and it seemed like we were going somewhere interesting. Then the rest of the season is SO VERY SLOW and with BORING backstories and flashbacks, nothing really happens, takes an entire episode for the main character to find a piece of paper. I'm going to fast forward and just see what the season finale has in store.

Started off strong and then completely petered out. Which really is a shame because the first couple episodes hooked me hard, but the lack of information, lack of character development, and a bland plot are just slaying me. Maybe I'm making a mistake not finishing the series but I can't take anymore of this silly melodrama.

Some people could say it's too slow.

A weak serial adaptation of the successful novel. The book must have struck a chord at the time, but it was only mediocre, as it only starts well and falls off sharply in the middle. The ending was then fudged, but it fit.
Nothing really fits here and only the first episodes are suitable for viewing.

Loved the books and this is a very good version so far. There will be many twists and turns throughout.
The acting is superb and the pace is perfect. I binged both of the episodes so far and cant wait to see the next one!

Very strong and intense opening with a new take on a somewhat familiar concept.

Highly recommended if you like distopian fiction + mystery and following several characters.

No, its just A. But wait...there's something else we can look at. Forget about A and B. lets examine C. Characters are discarded without any payoff to their stories, plot holes appear in the very first episode and grow worse in the second. The world building doesn't stand up to a moment's thought regarding feasibility or the practicalities of how such a society would evolve. I can only imagine the book it was based on was written using a pseudonym by the child of a billionaire. I have no idea how else it could have racked up so many positive reviews given the turgid quality of its content. Expand

Cliched paper-thin premise, it's lilke you've seen this exact tired story cheaply put to screen a million times before. I never read the books so maybe the interesting part is still coming? Hmmm, not so sure about that... And Rebecca Ferguson indeed cannot act. Tried episode 3 and couldn't finish it..

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Is this supposed to be a Matrix sequel? This looks like Zion to me and in episode two, it looks like one of the drilling machines that attacked it in the third movie. First episode was pretty good and Rashida Jones was great. Second episode got boring quick and Rebecca Ferguson cannot act. I'll never understand why she keeps getting good roles. I mean, outside her **** there's not much else there. I mean, all she seems to do to keep the generator running is sweat over a big-ass wrench. WTF is that **** Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Interesting idea. Unfortunately, a lot of logic errors...first of all - ATTENTION: SPOILER - if they go out voluntarily and believe that everything is good outside, why do they put on the helmet and the tank with the poison. That makes no sense! As soon as I saw the tank and helmet in the first episode, I knew there was poison in it.... Then why are the "doubters" of the silo (even the sheriff!) so naive and stupid and couldn't realise this???!! If they are so stupid, then they should be locked up ...or die!

If the rest of the story is similarly "logical", then there is no point in watching any further. Seeing stupid people making dumb failures is not entertaining.

Seems like an interesting idea at first but it is clear after the first couple of episodes that the plot is paper thin and spread into length to fill out the screen time. Okay, after watching episode 3, I have to change my score to a complete negative. You have an imbalanced steam turbine stopped in mere seconds, immediately cold, with elements supposed to be subject to centrifugal forces that can be removed and reshaped easily, or be bent god knows how. A system so ingenious that it was built vertically, about 500 m below the surface, without a backup system or steam vents just closure system that locks from the pressured side. At 250 bars, the temperature of steam is about 400C (750F), cooling such a small area as the steam valve wouldn't change anything apart from toasting the protagonist. Everyone should have been toasted multiple times in this episode.

Come on guys, I know the suspension of disbelief has to exist for the magic to happen, but the world building is just so disconnected from any semblance of reality, it's like it has been built by a child.

It's not dystopic, it's not sci fi, but it's massively cringe inducing.

Another flop. Terrible writing, banal character development, predictable cheesy plot arc's. It was extremely painful enduring the first episode - couldnt move on to the second knowing that each time I gave Apple an opportunity to surpise and entertain me i had to move on to the third and fourth episode in angst. Save yourself the torture of hoping against hope and give this a wide berth.

Like most Apple film, Silo is of good technical quality crafted by skilled individuals. But, as I always say, "it is very difficult to buy quality creativity for any amount of money".

In the case of Silo, the writing, casting, acting, directing and editing are very good. Obviously, any film will reach only a certain portion of viewers. Silo may not be to some individuals' liking.

To me, the acting is what makes this film worth watching. I'll make a comment regarding Lonnie Rashid Lynn's (aka Common) portrayal of Robert Sims, the head of security for Judicial... which strikes me as very odd and initially I very much did not care for. But, his efforts are starting to grow on me... perhaps he is learning to act as the series progresses.

Anyway, I haven't seen all of season 1 - and, perhaps my rating is premature (which never stops professional film critics from forming an uninformed opinion). I may come back and change my rating after I have seen the last episode of season 1.
    **************************************************************
I've watched episode 10 of season 1 and to me the overall structure of the plot was interesting and the last episode ties various threads of the story to a reasonable season 1 conclusion. Obviously, assuming season 1 is primarily groundwork for a larger idea - it often takes 2 or 3 seasons to develop an overall plot. Often times viewers might not have the patience for a lengthy development of plot points. There are lots of professional film critics who can't mentally focus on a 2-hour movie. Sometimes a writer will make the first episode or even several early episodes of season 1 as a hook to involve potential viewers more than actually developing the stories ultimate end point. In the case of Silo, I think season 1 was mostly geared to groundwork and viewer engagement. Most professional film critics probably only watched 1 or perhaps the 3 episodes of a series so they never know if a film develops into something worthwhile.

    **************************************************************
I had an additional thought. I have recently written 2 reviews of films I rated highly that had a rapper for one of the lead roles. This is the second time I have said I did not like the rappers acting. There may be something about a rapper's artistic skill set that I do not understand. I'm going to self-evaluate this issue in the future.

This is a fantastic, riveting show. Most of the naysayers seem to have been fans of the books - I never read them so can't speak to the show's fidelity to them. But as a source of inspiration - wow. This is couched as a sci-fi show, but it's really a ten part thriller/murder mystery - the pacing, acting and world-building is superb. Highly recommended.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's very good, faithful to the book. The silo looks very much like what I imagined. There's a little bit of excess melodrama in the score and the cinematography is sometimes contrived, but for the most part it looks and sounds excellent. The acting can't be faulted. The pacing has issues for the middle of the season. They could have removed 3 episodes and it wouldn't have mattered all that much. The show didn't hook me the way the book did. Strangely I find myself rating it the same as I rate Foundation, a show that is like crack to me, and that's probably because the writing and acting is far more consistent. It's well made, it's just a little low risk with its choices. Everything is the way it should be, almost to a fault. Expand

While Silo does occasionally have the (not unwelcome) gait and tone of an old Saturday syndicated show (Deep Space Nine comes to mind), Ferguson—in all her stern command—lends the series a necessary heft.
