As a hardcore Shameless fan, I'm rating this season high because it's tackling some more serious issues with the Gallagher clan. This season does seem to be a little more ridiculous than past seasons, but it hasn't deterred me from watching by any means. Difficult show to rate. Acting is very good, especially Fiona's part. Story lines are out there but most are interesting, funny or both. This is black comedy and a fine line exists between provoking laughter and shock. The line is crossed often and many times in the same episode. Guns, abortion, racially mixed families, homosexuality , welfare , drug and alcohol abuse, the writers takeDifficult show to rate. Acting is very good, especially Fiona's part. Nothing is sacred and you either like it or you don't. The only story line I could live without is the gay kid but that aside , I make it a point to watch every Sunday. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Another great season of Shameless but not as entertaining as the previous seasons. The writing was exceptional especially Lip beginning to have to deal with alcoholism and realizing he has a problem, getting to see Debbie as a mother and having to find a way to be a mother and have a normal teenage life, and Ian's continuous struggle with his bipolar. The character development was phenomenal especially with Lip, Carl, Ian, Fiona, Debbie, Sean, Frank, V, Svetlana, Tony, Mandy, and Kev. The acting was stupendous especially from Jeremy Allen White, Cameron Monaghan, Ethan Cutkosky, Emmy Rossum, Emma Kenney, William H. Macy, Isidora Goreshter, Steve Howey, Shanola Hampton, Dermot Mulroney, Sherilyn Fenn, Emma Greenwell, Steve Kazee, Tyler Jacob Moore, Kellen Michael, Peyton Elizabeth Lee, Will Sasso, Nichole Bloom, and Ever Carradine. The chemistry as always was spectacular. This was another season full of remarkable writing, character development, and acting but this season just wasn't as entertaining to me as the previous seasons were but it is still one of my favorite TV shows of all time.

This isn’t a new addition--sex, drugs, and violence have always been a part of Shameless’s DNA, but it’s the ornamental way that these elements are being used that feels unsatisfying.... All in all, the first two episodes do a good job of driving the Gallaghers to action and setting up stories that are likely to unfold throughout the course of the season.
