Best show I have ever watched, and I don't mean that lightly.

Only bad part is if you're not comfortable with in your face homosexuality. It doesn't bother me (don't enjoy it myself , so I just look away).

    Great show!
I love the image and the characters. Each story is interesting and they have a cultural background very well done.
I love the various subjects and the peace.
I guess it is confusing at the beginning as we discover with the characters their new sense.
This is not a lineal simple show. I love it makes you think.

Legitimately the best thing to come out of The Wachowskis since The Matrix. Better I'd say. Great action, interesting, believable characters. Honestly, if pressured to find a weak point, the +2 minute opening feels weird.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This show is essentially 8 completely different shows rolled into one, but it works. For example, one notable scene:

Wolfgang is terrified to sing in front of people, but during a karaoke moment jump-started by Riley listening to 4 Non Blonde’s "What’s Up?", he overcomes his fear and all of the sensates join in and sing along with him. It's a moment oozing with humanity at its best. It's also the first time we as an audience can connect with the shared connection because music really does bring us all together on a deeper level.

The series does fizzle at the end though. The entire season builds so slowly that I expected a much more grand finale. Instead, most of the plots are left in a place that conveniently begs its watchers to come back for season 2. The final episode focused on Riley and her backstory that honestly came out of nowhere. Wow, for a show that up to this point was over the top and fun suddenly became unrelenting and dark.

The series is brilliant and far exceeded my expectations in so many ways but.....overall it is in dire need of better editing or more to the point, more of it. Too often I found myself wishing they could dispense with the extended soulful looks a little sooner and just get to it already ! It just seems like they just take it too many times around the dance floor to get to the point. As much as I loathe the expression, in this case, less would be more. As in more entertaining. Unless they start evolving the story lines quicker in Season 2, I fear this series, that has such enormous potential, will die due to lack of ratings, as it really does demand some patience on the part of the viewer and I'm just not sure the average viewer will appreciate sitting through the truckloads of nuance, this show heaps on you. Kudos on the spectrum of characters and I do hope this one survives the hatchet because it's VERY well written and groundbreaking in so many ways.

Interconnectivity, the self, love, the problem with a world that lives unconscious. It is easy to study these things, but it's another thing to experience those states. That is exactly what this show does, it explores these different states and concepts in a symbolical way. And it's funny as **** haha.:) My hats go off to everyone who worked on that show-writers, directors, actors. They explored something far ahead of the masses understanding and helped people by introducing those concepts to the world.

Sense8 is an intriguing show, and one which at this point I am extremely fond of. How much one enjoys the show is really up to ones taste in genre. Sense8 is almost typical of a Wachowski project. It has a similar feel to their other works and to those not accustomed to it, a similar ability to confuse.

The pacing of the story is more reminiscent of Japanese anime than the typical western sci-fi drama. The plot is convoluted and is slow to reveal aspects that many would consider standard in such a show. The main antagonist is unknown for much of the series, the nature of the bond between the main characters is unclear, as is the power they possess, and all this can get in the way of ones viewing experience.

For the first few episodes your attachment to the series will be more based on how you like each of the characters. There is little else going on at the beginning and in reality Sense8 entirely relies on the characters being likeable enough to hold your interest for at least the first 3.

Personally my favourites are Nomi, Sun and Capheus and whilst I really emphasize and connect with these characters, my interest wanes in regards to the other characters. That being said the characters are largely given equal screen time, with the exception of Nomi and Will, and they are all quite interesting.

Unfortunately all the character development may get in the way of the story in the eyes of some

But for me these are all plusses

I love convoluted plots and unclear enemies . I love how the series introduces you to the characters. I love how it can be funny in unexpected places.

I really like Sense8, and maybe its because I'm an anime girl and Im used to this kind of storytelling, but it is one of my favourite shown this year.

The creative plot gives this show a immense potential, and the well written and diverse cast/characters gives that extra boost to keep the story entertaining and exciting. Plus, having such a diverse cast, but more importantly, such a diverse characters, representing the point of view from each culture and each own way of thinking will definitely appeal to a huge audience, who might be attracted by the idea and the cast, but will definitely stay because of the story.

Definitely worth watching, to the level that you might finish it in less than 2 days. Can´t wait for next season!

It took a couple of episodes to understand what was happening but once you grasp a hold of what the writers are trying to do it becomes a wonderful show to watch. The strongest in my opinion is the female Korean, but they all have strong merit and purpose in the story. It also runs the gamut on sexuality with both a male gay couple and a transgender woman with a woman partner. It is not strictly a gay story though, the heterosexual relationships have just as much weight. It is also willing to touch on many taboo topics. If the sight of a tampon grosses you out, you may want to prepare yourself. But surprisingly it's not used for shock value aimed at the viewer but a part of the story. It's the best example I can think of to describe the obvious and sometimes overboard attempts of the shows creators to break new ground. There are stereotypes, poetic license, and clichés, but as a whole the show manages to come together on a new level that I think future shows will strive to replicate. It brought me a new understanding of different cultures: Korean, Indian, Kenyan, German, British and even my own American culture. The sci-fi story is secondary to the importance of the characters and I think that fact is what made me love this show so much. I very much hope it will return for a second season and more, but even if it lasts only one I'm glad I had the opportunity to watch it. Expand

It’s got german safe-cracking, san-fran pride-parades, telepathic kick-boxing, a mexican gay telenovela, daily life in african slums, chicago crime-investigating cops, transgender hackers, bollywood dance-numbers, and psychic orgies. Yeah. Psychic orgies. And live births on screen.

It’s also the closest thing to a movie/television adaptation of Octavia Butler’s Patternist series that's been made. For those of you who aren’t familiar with Octavia Butler, she’s the only African American woman to have won the Hugo and Nebula awards for science fiction writing. As you might imagine, Octavia Butler had unique sensibilities about what a compelling science fiction story would entail; and one of the hallmarks of her storytelling is the theme of telepathy and telepaths, and her interest in issues of race and gender, which were all developed in her Seed to Harvest series. The first season of Sense8 is, very roughly speaking, a modern adaptation of Mind of My Mind, and with the Babylon 5 creator and Matrix directors at the helm, it’s obvious that this could easily be a 5+ season long arc, and go as epic as covering the entire Seed to Harvest storyline. And that’s what makes Sense8 groundbreaking sci-fi: it’s easily the best portrayal of telepaths in a sci-fi series ever made.

The first season is 12 hours long, with the first four hours devoted to our telepaths slowly getting up inside each others heads; the second four hours being something of a psychic orgy as they figure out how to communicate with each other; and the last four hours is an operatic birth of telepathically choreographed action. And the telepathic choreography they pull off is *tight*.

Sense8 is very possibly the culmination of the Wachowski’s career so far; and it’s great to see them take all the best parts from Bound, Matrix, and Cloud Atlas and incorporate it in this new series. The first season is definitely filmed with bing viewing and passive-viewing in mind. It’s Cloud Atlas meets Lost meets Heroes; with a 21st century sex-ed course mixed in; and dialed up to a 13 out of 10.

Netflix and streaming television is arguably a better medium for the Wachowskis, and maybe they should have moved over to television awhile ago. Somewhere along the way, it occurred to someone that maybe instead of spending $100M trying to recreate 2 hours of special effects as good as the Matrix, maybe they should just spend $100M on an entire season and make 12 hours of television. And whoever made that decision should get a gold star or something.

Be warned: the series starts out slow. By the Wachowski’s standards, excruciatingly slow. Yet intimately so. It’s obvious that they’re getting a chance to tell intimate stories, and do the kind of character development they’ve not had the opportunity to do before. If Cloud Atlas was a warm-up exercise; Sense8 is a 12 hour long sequel. Some people might be terrified of the prospect of sitting through a 12 hour long sequel to Cloud Atlas. But fans of shows like Lost and Heroes will feel totally at home.

By comparison, Lost went through 24 episodes before they even introduced the Dharma Initiative; and went through 96 episodes before they explained what the Incident was in it’s penultimate Season 5. So, by comparison, that Sense8 only takes 4 hours to start getting into it’s action groove is entirely reasonable. Especially when the action sequences include bullet-time effects and special effect sequences inspired by the Matrix.

Sense8 takes a smart editing technique from Cloud Atlas, in that each of it’s character’s story arc is a mini-genre. So, you’re very much getting 8 different mini-movies, interwoven with each other. The Wachowskis are pushing a new approach to storytelling using a new medium. The result of which is that the mini-movies in Sense8 provide something for everyone.

Also, Sense8 has got some of the best portrayals of LGBT characters ever done in a sci-fi series; and is radically inclusive in terms of gender and race. It's entire premise is set up as a way to discuss issues around race, sex, gender, privacy, power, and social justice.

Personally, after watching the entire first season, I'd go so far as to say that it's the Wachowski's best work since the Matrix. It's a different medium, and a different kind of story telling, so try watching it with an open mind. There are moments when it gets hokey and hippie-dippie with the "we're all connected" new-age vibe. But those are themes the Wachowski's have been exploring in almost all their movies, so it should come as no surprise.

Oh, and did I mention the psychic orgies and telepathic kickboxing?

But, in the end, yes, best character driven sci-fi since the Battlestar Gallactica reboot (but lighter) and incredibly inspiring. Wonderfully shot and paced (believe it or not, just stay with it). Everything balances out. Fewer/shorter action scenes than I would expect (esp since I just watched their Jupiter Ascending). When the final Season 1 episode ended, I felt like I had just seen a 12 hr movie, and the story arc points to that. Sure, there are 'flaws', but one diamond's flaw is another's brilliance. I love that they used Beethoven's Emperor Concerto (Concerto No. 5) throughout much of the season, as it is so brilliant yet so overlooked and so emotional. Many great songs are used to perfect effect. Not every episode and not when you'd expect it, but just enough, like all else. Did I mention great acting, no melodrama, and superb story? Please, please don't listen to the negative reviews!

This show has something very special about it. But before I get there I will propose my theory as to why there seems to be such a divide on the reviews.

I believe people are afraid of the characters. There are lesbians, transgenders, and gays. People argue on here that this show is a "diversity campaign" and that this message "has been received long ago." Even if the show pushes these topics too heavily, it is still a message that needs to be sent because it obviously hasn't been very well received. I believe people can't get past their own beliefs and opinions and see the incredible-ness of this show. Also, several of the negative reviews even admit to only watching the pilot or a couple episodes. Another person even mentioned the show doesn't do any flashbacks like Lost did and therefore there is no character development. This person obviously didn't watch more than a couple episodes, if that, as there are several flashbacks and character development. Now why would anyone who disliked a show so quickly feel the need to share their negative thoughts about it, and sometimes in a very harsh tone? Most likely do to something about it striking them in such a direct way that it contradicted their own beliefs and values. The result: negative reviews based on personal feelings of misunderstanding, fear, and potentially, hate.

I'll admit that some of these things were a bit tough for me handle at first, but I grew past those misplaced negative opinions that society pushed on me and accepted the characters for the people and human beings that they actually are. And, most importantly, even if I still don't fully understand these things that bothered me, I did not allow it to override my judgement on the quality of the show. (which is freaking awesome, btw)

    Reasons I love Sense8:

#1: It connects you to the characters better than any show I've seen. This is done primarily through the psychic connection of the 8 main characters by showing you how they work together and help each other out when the need arises most, sharing skills and knowledge along the way. Simply ingenious and amazing.

#2: It's unapologetic. Yes, it throws a strap-on **** the transgender lesbians were using right in your face directly at the beginning. It's shouting out, "Yes, we are different, but we are not ashamed and will not hide our true selves!" It takes that huge elephant in the room (due to one of the creators being transgender) and throws it out in the open for everyone to see, getting it out of the way and the show can move on. She may be transgendered now, but that took some balls!

#3 Fight and action scenes. These are the Matrix siblings after all, and they don't let us down.

#4 It moves at a very good pace, not to slow and not too fast. Almost like a murder mystery novel. You wouldn't want all the secrets to be given to you in the first few chapters, but just enough to keep you interested and guessing. Sense8 does this, and balances it quite perfectly. I also really like how the "bad guy" is still the biggest mystery of all. Makes for really good anticipation.

    #5 Acting is spot on.

That's currently my top 5, and I'm to come up with more reasons I love the show later. I created this account to help get the message out about how great this show is because I want to see it continue.

So, do yourself a favor, let go of any societal doubts casted upon you in the past, and enjoy this very well done sci-fi fantasy drama!

This is the best thing I've seen recently. The characters are all well written and you can't wait to see more.
I like the unexpected ways they interact oh there are the obvious ways. But the less obvious are the ones that make the most impact. Leaving you asking yourself what how wow!

I was so hooked on this show It took me a day to watch cause I couldnt stop, even at 4 in the morning when I finished my mind was restless. The suspense and entensitiy was what kept me glued to this show. The whole idea is beyond imagination but yet it can relate to reality in so many ways. For all the haters out there that disaprove on this show, you can tell that they are closed minded.I was so hooked on this show It took me a day to watch cause I couldnt stop, even at 4 in the morning when I finished my mind was restless. This show is very original and something for the person who likes a complicated story that does not need to make sense before the absolute end. And that is a problem as well to many people. I personally think that after season 2 (if it comes and god i hope so) the story will be more clear and fantastic.

The makers of this show dares to do what almost no one else does, and that is to explain what the real world is, you have to read between the lines in many cases to see it but it's there. The things every character has been through is a lesson about life and what is like to live the way we do, and to understand what lives other may live despite every judgement.

In conclusion this is a great show with good actors, good story and a good message.

An amazing series, well-written, smart, with an excellent production one of the best things I have seen in a long time. The acting is solid, the characters are real, the stories are connected and the pace is amazing.

I watched the first episode and I hated it... but, I gave it another chance then I kept on watching the following episodes and it turned out to be one of my favourites of this year. Great actors, the story unravels beautifully. I must say great job Netflix! I can only recommend this show.

Absolutely astonishing... I've never seen such a TV show... I'm not finished yet but... Wo. The characters are so deep and endearing. Some scenes are so touching, you can't resist to cry like a baby. The staging is bluffing. As many others have stated, the first episode will confuse you, and you might not be interested in the show, but I promise, after the second, you'll want to know more! I highly suggest a full season re-watch after completing the show. the first episode makes so much more sense when you "know" the characters!

if anyone find it late to "get going" after episode 6, check out the widely acclaimed Game of Thrones, which got going after season 3 ... give it time. Lets at least hope it will not become another "arrow" ..

It can lead to indulgent storytelling, but in the case of a series like Sense8, real artistry, too.

Sense8 is a show forever trapped between two things--its core artistic impulses and its need to over-explain everything that happens within its confines. That makes it at once beautiful and maddening, either a complete travesty or a whacked-out masterpiece--and sometimes both in the same scene.

The ultimate paradox of Sense8 is that it can give away so little about its ultimate destination in three hours of screen time, and still be seductive enough to make hour four an attractive proposition.
