I have never written a review before, but I had to for one simple reason. This is by far the best show I have ever seen. I'm not much for art, but this show is exactly that, a piece of art. It's harsh but the reality is the people who give this show negative reviews don't understand the deeper messages this show is attempting to portray to the masses.

    Interconnectivity, the self, love,

It's harsh but the reality is the people who give this show negative reviews don't understand the deeper messages this show is attempting to portray to the masses.

Interconnectivity, the self, love, the problem with a world that lives unconscious. It is easy to study these things, but it's another thing to experience those states. That is exactly what this show does, it explores these different states and concepts in a symbolical way. And it's funny as **** haha.:) My hats go off to everyone who worked on that show-writers, directors, actors. They explored something far ahead of the masses understanding and helped people by introducing those concepts to the world.

Most creative artwork i've ever seen. It's a show that makes you really feel, and the importance of feeling. Enjoy!

very positively surprised Sense8, beginning is slow but from episode 5 is getting better and better and the last 2 ep are brilliant, there is a perfect balance between action, character development, comedy (not much comedy but it's placed perfectly)

There are quite a few plotholes and unanswered questions in this series. Yet it still is interesting to watch, and entertaining. I personally find that the characters' interactions with each other are off at times, and unsensical.

    Great show!
I love the image and the characters. Each story is interesting and they have a cultural background very well done.
I love the various subjects and the peace.
I guess it is confusing at the beginning as we discover with the characters their new sense.
This is not a lineal simple show. I love it makes you think.

The series is brilliant and far exceeded my expectations in so many ways but.....overall it is in dire need of better editing or more to the point, more of it. Too often I found myself wishing they could dispense with the extended soulful looks a little sooner and just get to it already ! It just seems like they just take it too many times around the dance floor to get to the point. As much as I loathe the expression, in this case, less would be more. As in more entertaining. Unless they start evolving the story lines quicker in Season 2, I fear this series, that has such enormous potential, will die due to lack of ratings, as it really does demand some patience on the part of the viewer and I'm just not sure the average viewer will appreciate sitting through the truckloads of nuance, this show heaps on you. Kudos on the spectrum of characters and I do hope this one survives the hatchet because it's VERY well written and groundbreaking in so many ways.

So this show won't be for everyone and there were moments when I felt it wasn't going to be for me either. That being said, I ended up binge watching all 12 episodes in about 24 hours. (Not an exaggeration, I was hooked after the 3rd episode.)

I'll rate by a few categories.

Story line 9/10 - I would say, this story line and plot requires you to think about what has happened in past scenes. You're definitely not watching this for a full action movie like Rambo and Expendables (I love Rambo and watched Expendables more than a few times). You need an open mind with some short term memory retention and some compassion for others. You do jump around to develop the characters which is to my next point.

Character Development - 9/10, The development was great but some of the scenes (sex scenes mostly) weren't really my type of thing to watch. A few uncomfortable moments but that's what fast forward is for. Some people are going to knock it by believing there's a political agenda behind the movie. I personally did not see it that way, while some of the sex scenes were a bit over the top and unnecessary, a lot of the other stuff was necessary for character development. You have to appreciate how in depth they made each character.

Shooting / Cinematography - 10/10, As others have mentioned , you get to see a wide range of places from Chicago, Nirobi, South Korea, Iceland, India etc. The scenes were shot nicely, transitions were pretty good. I did enjoy the fight scenes as well, most of them were necessary for character development and to get a feel for their personal beliefs and feelings. It's not like a Transformers movie (Guilty pleasure of mine) where everything is blown up via Michael Bay style.

You cannot watch this show and base it on the first 3 episodes. If you're not able to follow along, I would advise watching it twice. The last 2 or 3 episodes were great. I will certainly look forward to a 2nd season of Sense 8.

Am I pronouncing that right? Lost’s problem was a bloated cast of frustrating characters taking up hours upon hours of space while the only compelling thing, the mystery, idled until stalling out. Sense8 has the opposite problem. A cast of interesting characters you’re compelled to explore before the damn mystery comes and takes everything over. When Upstream Color came out it was tough to handle emotionally—all those amazing scifi concepts dealt on an art film and left unexplored, certainly lost to memory. But then Sense8 comes in and steals like a third of the movie and makes it feel fresh enough to stand on its own and finally explore some of that awesome material! Way to Mr. Robot that **** Sense8. Like Mr. Robot it requires a lot of suspension of disbelief but rewards you for your cooperation. Once you accept the ridiculous turns the only sad part left is the pacing. When you think about it, the idea of a show about a meta-organism is probably the best postmodern premise you could have. The potential for exploring next step evolution as cultural evolution in which individuals are elevated through sharing and reconciling of difference and experience—that’s maybe the most timely and uplifting story one could tell. Halfway in though, you get the old G-men plot. It’s cool but it does a disservice to what the development of the meta-organism could have been. There’s a lot of good material that will probably never get explored unless season 2 steps back and slows down, which will almost definitely not happen. Lito’s story is a good example of how the rest should have been plotted. Expand

Compared to what the Wachowskis have previously given us, Sense8 is a whole other story. Obviously being a TV-show the format is different from what I've seen from the Andy & Lana Wachowski, and one of the things that I appreciated about the show is that they really - but I mean really - took the time to hash out the characters and their story. It's always nice when that happens in a show, it allows us to understand and to related to the characters. In this case it not only made the characters realistic but also gave them interesting stand alone storylines. They didn’t exist as a group but as individuals, with their own lives and their own set of problems, they were individuals who eventually teamed up.

Fleshing out characters is nice but the creative team might have been a little too generous with that. It slowed the pace of the show so much that it was - at times - a bit annoying, but their story is gripping enough to keep you watching. The premise alone does it because with a bit of wits you can easily see some of the cool things that could be done in the show from the get go, and it pays off. The action sequences are beautiful and quite enjoyable to watch. I also loved how they peppered some key information throughout the episodes before that knowledge became relevant for a particular situation.

Like the premise suggest Sense8 has a broad scope, which allows for beautiful landscape shots, and a glimpse at different cultures and/or way of life. In a single episode we travel around the world, we go from something familiar to something foreign in minutes, and that’s another appeal of the show. The actors themselves represent the diversity their characters showcases. A lot of nationalities, colors, and sexual orientation are represented in Sense8. On that aspect it truly feels like these people are an archetype of someone you know.

Sense8 is intriguing, gripping, and entertaining to watch. The show is a beautiful mashup of genres and I’m really crossing my fingers for a second season. @Gulk on Tumblr / @wornoutspines

I really enjoyed this show. Took me three days to finish it, but anytime I wasn't watching Sense8 - I was thinking about it. The first episode moves slowly but it still draws you in and by episode three you are hooked and have to see what happens next. I like how it kind of develops slowly so you are learning what is going on along with the characters. I cannot wait to see more.

Sense8 is almost typical of a Wachowski project. It has a similar feel to their other works and to those not accustomed to it, a similar ability to confuse.

The pacing of the story is more reminiscent of Japanese anime than the typical western sci-fi drama. The plot is convoluted and is slow to reveal aspects that many would consider standard in such a show. The main antagonist is unknown for much of the series, the nature of the bond between the main characters is unclear, as is the power they possess, and all this can get in the way of ones viewing experience.

For the first few episodes your attachment to the series will be more based on how you like each of the characters. There is little else going on at the beginning and in reality Sense8 entirely relies on the characters being likeable enough to hold your interest for at least the first 3.

Personally my favourites are Nomi, Sun and Capheus and whilst I really emphasize and connect with these characters, my interest wanes in regards to the other characters. That being said the characters are largely given equal screen time, with the exception of Nomi and Will, and they are all quite interesting.

Unfortunately all the character development may get in the way of the story in the eyes of some

But for me these are all plusses

I love convoluted plots and unclear enemies . I love how the series introduces you to the characters. I love how it can be funny in unexpected places.

I really like Sense8, and maybe its because I'm an anime girl and Im used to this kind of storytelling, but it is one of my favourite shown this year.

I mean it. This show is about 8 people with a weird mental disorder just loving, laughing, having sex, and dealing with family drama.

    That being said - I loved Sense8.

The premise owes a great deal to Theodore Sturgeon's "Baby is Three" for the idea of humans co-mingling their minds to create a "Gestalt" being (called a "cluster"in the show) that shares all the thoughts, feelings and skills of the individuals.

There is also the Hollywood standard "shadowy organization" trying to do bad things to the main characters but that's such a minor part of the whole. I've seen this show compared to the first season of NBC's "Heroes" but, while it did remind me of that show at times, Sense8 is the better product.

It is not for everyone but I found it compelling enough to watch the whole 12 episodes straight through so you should at least give it a shot. You'll know if it's your thing after about 1 and a half episodes.

I'm only a few episodes in, but I don't find the series confusing at all. I don't see why the critics are being harsh. It jumps around a lot, but confusing? No.

A bizarre woman gives the vision of herself to many unrelated people, who ultimately begin to see and feel things occurring in the others' places. Its broad variety of personalities is introduced with gorgeous visual, switching from one corner of the globe to the next continuously.

Cinematography ensures that each character has their own respective flair, from the urban Chicago police to the Korean executive lady. This approach engages the viewers as subtle visual and audio cues collide with each other. Color ambiance shifts while the background music or ticking sound interrupts their senses. This is a fascinating concept to portray as they might find solace, anxiety or at least curiosity in the peculiar bond.

It takes advantage of the cultural contrast to deliver lively and personal story of the cast. They are fortunately adequately interesting as they go through respective issue in their lives. Acting is pretty good throughout, which is crucial because the premise demands all of them need to be balanced instead of relying solely on one strong performance. The pace is properly fast, with focus on transition and proportional development.

The main concerns are the expected longer time to build up and its use heavily controversial themes. As the title suggests, the show invests in multiple perspectives, which understandably might take a while to fully develop all the characters. It also dabbles in serious subjects such as religion, tradition as well as homosexual rights. One of those could be taken the wrong way if it's presented indelicately, though it shouldn't pose much problem, considering the fictitious nature of the show.

Granting perspectives of myriad characters in their own vibrant worlds while also featuring a good mystery, Sense8 should be a delightful present to many.

You start getting your answers, when the characters are getting their answers. As they are getting their answers, they adjust, they learn to deal with the new connections, new abilities, new threats. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This show is essentially 8 completely different shows rolled into one, but it works. For example, one notable scene:

Wolfgang is terrified to sing in front of people, but during a karaoke moment jump-started by Riley listening to 4 Non Blonde’s "What’s Up?", he overcomes his fear and all of the sensates join in and sing along with him. It's a moment oozing with humanity at its best. It's also the first time we as an audience can connect with the shared connection because music really does bring us all together on a deeper level.

The series does fizzle at the end though. The entire season builds so slowly that I expected a much more grand finale. Instead, most of the plots are left in a place that conveniently begs its watchers to come back for season 2. The final episode focused on Riley and her backstory that honestly came out of nowhere. Wow, for a show that up to this point was over the top and fun suddenly became unrelenting and dark.

My only real complaint is the language thing, I really think they should have used subtitles, it does take a bit away from the global, cross culture themes. That is why I cant give this a 10. Otherwise really enjoying this show Expand

I had some tips before indulging myself in this show. It was slow at first but well, a story this original and *puzzling* will need a slow narrative start for the audience to "feel it" towards the end. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Sense8 has an bizarre, quixotic plot, which if you are a believer makes for a amusing tall tale.

SPOILER: Eight people living in different places around the world are able to (learning how to) live within one another. Of course, there is the mad scientist hunting people like them, sensates, down and lobotomizing them to prevent a proliferation of co-inherence among other groups of eight. We just can't have a world where international groups of eight are able to think and work as one.

If you are able to buy into the premise, not unlike Field of Dreams' "If you build it, they will come," it's a decent ride to and from many worlds, a real global tale. The multi-genre story line has something for just about everyone. Although I wouldn't want a child watching this series. Mom, definitely block this one! There is science-fiction, romance (all genders just about), mystery, and lots of action (violence). The multiple location photography is captivating and in some scenes breathtaking: Chicago, London, Reykjavik, Nairobi, Seoul, which ads to the "I am also a we" ideology--but without any Borg like assimilation.

I do have a warning. The directors are the Wachowskis Andy and Lana, "The Matrix" and "Cloud Atlas." Lana Wachowski, being the first transgender director to go public. The consequence is the series is heavily slanted toward gay and lesbian relationships, with full frontal nudity of males, male-on-male and female-on-female sex scenes. The mixing of genres and the mixing of gender make chaotic sense somehow: close to a living in a multi, intersecting borderlands. But, although artistic, such scenes are explicit. Birth scenes show the head of the child crowning between the legs of their mothers--which I find ironic because the majority of sex is between same sex lovers. Not that all this explicitness is needed--it even distracts from more complex scripting.

I'm also puzzled that the Wachowskis would cast Jamie Clayton, an actual female actor, to play the transgender (male to female) role rather than an actual transgendered actor. Reminds me of Hollywood's choosing non-Asian actors over Asian actors in movies like The Good Earth. Though I do not fault Clayton's acting in the part and even covet her low voice.

There's less action than you might think, at least at the beginning, though the payoff when it happens is great. Humor is also sparse; atmospherically, reminds me of Orphan Black or Cloud Atlas.

It’s got german safe-cracking, san-fran pride-parades, telepathic kick-boxing, a mexican gay telenovela, daily life in african slums, chicago crime-investigating cops, transgender hackers, bollywood dance-numbers, and psychic orgies. Yeah. Psychic orgies. And live births on screen.

It’s also the closest thing to a movie/television adaptation of Octavia Butler’s Patternist series that's been made. For those of you who aren’t familiar with Octavia Butler, she’s the only African American woman to have won the Hugo and Nebula awards for science fiction writing. As you might imagine, Octavia Butler had unique sensibilities about what a compelling science fiction story would entail; and one of the hallmarks of her storytelling is the theme of telepathy and telepaths, and her interest in issues of race and gender, which were all developed in her Seed to Harvest series. The first season of Sense8 is, very roughly speaking, a modern adaptation of Mind of My Mind, and with the Babylon 5 creator and Matrix directors at the helm, it’s obvious that this could easily be a 5+ season long arc, and go as epic as covering the entire Seed to Harvest storyline. And that’s what makes Sense8 groundbreaking sci-fi: it’s easily the best portrayal of telepaths in a sci-fi series ever made.

The first season is 12 hours long, with the first four hours devoted to our telepaths slowly getting up inside each others heads; the second four hours being something of a psychic orgy as they figure out how to communicate with each other; and the last four hours is an operatic birth of telepathically choreographed action. And the telepathic choreography they pull off is *tight*.

Sense8 is very possibly the culmination of the Wachowski’s career so far; and it’s great to see them take all the best parts from Bound, Matrix, and Cloud Atlas and incorporate it in this new series. The first season is definitely filmed with bing viewing and passive-viewing in mind. It’s Cloud Atlas meets Lost meets Heroes; with a 21st century sex-ed course mixed in; and dialed up to a 13 out of 10.

Netflix and streaming television is arguably a better medium for the Wachowskis, and maybe they should have moved over to television awhile ago. Somewhere along the way, it occurred to someone that maybe instead of spending $100M trying to recreate 2 hours of special effects as good as the Matrix, maybe they should just spend $100M on an entire season and make 12 hours of television. And whoever made that decision should get a gold star or something.

Be warned: the series starts out slow. By the Wachowski’s standards, excruciatingly slow. Yet intimately so. It’s obvious that they’re getting a chance to tell intimate stories, and do the kind of character development they’ve not had the opportunity to do before. If Cloud Atlas was a warm-up exercise; Sense8 is a 12 hour long sequel. Some people might be terrified of the prospect of sitting through a 12 hour long sequel to Cloud Atlas. But fans of shows like Lost and Heroes will feel totally at home.

By comparison, Lost went through 24 episodes before they even introduced the Dharma Initiative; and went through 96 episodes before they explained what the Incident was in it’s penultimate Season 5. So, by comparison, that Sense8 only takes 4 hours to start getting into it’s action groove is entirely reasonable. Especially when the action sequences include bullet-time effects and special effect sequences inspired by the Matrix.

Sense8 takes a smart editing technique from Cloud Atlas, in that each of it’s character’s story arc is a mini-genre. So, you’re very much getting 8 different mini-movies, interwoven with each other. The Wachowskis are pushing a new approach to storytelling using a new medium. The result of which is that the mini-movies in Sense8 provide something for everyone.

Also, Sense8 has got some of the best portrayals of LGBT characters ever done in a sci-fi series; and is radically inclusive in terms of gender and race. It's entire premise is set up as a way to discuss issues around race, sex, gender, privacy, power, and social justice.

Personally, after watching the entire first season, I'd go so far as to say that it's the Wachowski's best work since the Matrix. It's a different medium, and a different kind of story telling, so try watching it with an open mind. There are moments when it gets hokey and hippie-dippie with the "we're all connected" new-age vibe. But those are themes the Wachowski's have been exploring in almost all their movies, so it should come as no surprise.

Oh, and did I mention the psychic orgies and telepathic kickboxing?

I absolutely enjoyed watching the whole series in 5 days. I can understand that the show sometimes go a bit slow, but because you have the whole season to watch and it gets better and better, I think the show is visually beautiful, sexy. And the way the edit the show is very clever.

This show, for me is officially the best show I've ever seen! If you stick with it you will fall in love with it. Hope to god they make a season 2! It is Original, and very stylish! The action scenes are so will choreographed, and the introduction to the characters and the development of each character is amazing. Well done Netflix.

I went into this not knowing what to expect, but I came out of it surprisingly pleased. There are some unique things the series can do with the premise of characters being able to take over the others, sadly the first season doesn't provide that much of that, but when it does, it really show the strength of the show.

One thing I do wish they expanded more on than they did was the main story, as they kind of left that out of most of the episodes, only rarely coming back to it, but in the last few episodes they picked up on that much more, and they also finally got characters to meet up in real life (I wonder how interacting with people will work, they should expand on that in the future seasons!)

There are some issues though, the main one being that at times, I find myself not interested in some of the stories and would rather focus on others, but the show at the very least doesn't focus too long on one story, so that is not too much of an issue most of the time, and it will generally throw something at you which makes you sit up in your chair again and go "oh crap!" It may also be a bit too slow for some people, there's a lot of talking, yet not much action, and since it's suppose to be part drama part sci-fi, you would expect more action. That being said, it once again does have great action scenes when they do happen, which do use the various characters, so that's nice.

Overall, the first season is great, and hopefully they keep this up, I can't wait to see what will happen in the future, and Netflix has once again shown what great original content that they can produce.

This show is amazing. It's true that the story unfolds slowly and you have to invest time in the beginning. But the reward is worth it. I've fallen in love with the characters!
I would recommend everybody to give it a shot :)

I loved this show, I care for each character and the concept is amazing, the production value and the amazing interaction in all these countries was also great. Also for the first time each country was treated with awe and respect something rarely seen in US shows. I applaud this effort by The Wachowskis, can't wait for Season 2.

Groundbreaking - gorgeous - interesting!! I loved this show. I'll admit that the first couple of episodes start out a bit slowly but the series is absolutely worth the patience required to stay with those opening episodes. Best television out there. Characters multidimensional and plot intriguing. Thank you Netflix for this great show! Way to go!

Absolutely astonishing. The fact that a multicultural, action packed, jauntily controversial and easily relatable show that appeals to almost every demographic out there, still manages to assemble acting, script, screenplay, atmosphere AND pace so good it almost makes you rip your eyes out wondering how the heck it isn't renewed yet. This series a breath of fresh air, I have never experienced such an articulate story with so many main appealing characters, without losing touch with every single one of them.
I mean, every actor is hand picked and perfect for their role, proof of it is that you could write a series on each of them alone, and it would still sound good.
My sincere congratulations to all the people involved.

Looks amazing. Very naughty with lots of rude bits and nudity. Very much written for adults, inasmuch as written with real maturity and subtle knowledge of the human condition. Kind of like a much much much better version of the leftovers with a 'evil sinister force' thing going on.

In bed with flu', stumbled upon Sense8, and have feasted on eps for two days, I am now deeply engaged in the lives of these unlikely characters. So beautiful and flawed, a cacophony of colour, chaos and hope. I love it, can't wait for more, thank you Netfilx for another glorious, challenging 21st century tale.

if anyone find it late to "get going" after episode 6, check out the widely acclaimed Game of Thrones, which got going after season 3 ... give it time. Lets at least hope it will not become another "arrow" ..

I finished it off over the weekend and it is 1) *gorgeous* looking and 2) one of best examples of music I can remember, both as a plot device and as soundtrack/score.

A lot of it worked for me…Lito, especially with Hernando, Sun’s entire story, everything Riley after she goes to Iceland, Wolfgang’s bad-assery, Capheus’ optimism. I also thought the “visiting” scenes were really well

I just finished the entire series last night and I really like it!! Yes, there is A LOT going on. It kinda reminds me of Lost (and not just because of Sayid) which is a good and bad thing because Lost had A LOT going on in it too and we all know how that ended….

What a great series this is. Its meant to be watched pretty much all at once- maybe over a weekend or something but definitely not over a span of months because you'll get confused. But its magic if you watch it in a short period of time. Absolute magic!

Best show I have ever watched, and I don't mean that lightly.

Only bad part is if you're not comfortable with in your face homosexuality. It doesn't bother me (don't enjoy it myself , so I just look away).

But you do have to come in with some suspension of disbelief in the sci-fi and plot elements, which make little sense on their own. But as a vehicle to get these diverse characters talking to and supporting one another, it makes perfect sense. I hope they continue this into Season 2, so some of the broader plot elements can be resolved, but if not, it still makes for riveting television. Expand

Sense8 is a show forever trapped between two things--its core artistic impulses and its need to over-explain everything that happens within its confines. That makes it at once beautiful and maddening, either a complete travesty or a whacked-out masterpiece--and sometimes both in the same scene.

The ultimate paradox of Sense8 is that it can give away so little about its ultimate destination in three hours of screen time, and still be seductive enough to make hour four an attractive proposition.
