It was a sorrowful ending to see that Sydney and Charlotte, although in love, could not marry due to a situation that was brought on because of his brother, Tom Parker, absolute greed carelessness and neglect. Clearly Tom Parker was too self absorbed to notice his brother’s love for Charlotte and his insensitivity is consistent in eps 1 of Season 2. Still, like millions of Sanditon fans, I looked forward to the new episodes of Season 2 only to be gravely disappointed once more. Killing off Sydney Parker was unnecessary and proves there is little to the writers’ imagination. Anytime a writer kills off a character without justification or sound reason to the story line looks as if the motivation and drive of the writers to create a great story is absent. The first episode of Season 2 felt like it was written to kill off SP, introduce a bunch of new characters and add unnecessary flashbacks of Season 1. The last episode of Season 1 was a heartbreak but Davies added salt to the viewers wounds by showing SP coffin lowered. Was it a shock? Only for a brief second because I quickly recalled who wrote the story!!! I think it was cruelly unnecessary to do away with his character in such a manner! Jane Austen Sanditon story had the potential of being so much more than the typical contemporary drama with notes of todays politics and social issues it has turned out to become. Does not Mr Davies realize that people enjoy Jane Austen and other period movies to get away from today’s social political sorrows!? Jane Austen had the story line, setting, characters, etc it could have been a marvelous story but sadly today’s sad issues mixed with unimaginative writing turned this viewer off and no longer looking forward to future episodes. Sad day for Sanditon fans AGAIN!! Expand
