This is fine, not great, not bad, just fine. The plot details are a bit hard to follow as a lot of them are played out in dialgoue. Not that it's really important as it all plays out as you expect. I feel the characters were a little shallow and forgetable, the fighting scenes decent, but pale in comparison to a show like "Banshee". Overall leaving it to be a decent watch but ultimatelyThis is fine, not great, not bad, just fine. The plot details are a bit hard to follow as a lot of them are played out in dialgoue. Basically this is another 'hey, they killed my family member, now I am allowed to kill and torture them all' kind of movie/series. The main character talks a lot to explain how he deduced his amazing findings (think a very traditional tv sleuth), but at the same time he is supposed to be the silent type - well, not in this series. The action is ok, the main actor likeable but a bit stiff - with a good supporting cast (especially Willa Fitzgerald as Roscoe and Malcom Goodwin as sidekick. In smaller reoccurring roles: Kristin Kreuk and Currie Graham). The plot starts out mediocre (really, there is nothing in it which you won't see coming for miles) and goes down from there - it is just a vehicle for the violent revenge fantasy. Especially the second plot line which shows some episodes from Reacher's youth and his relation to his brother, which has no other function than to give the main character some emotional depth, devolves after a cliché but not too bad start into something very cheesy.
Not sure what Amazon is thinking when they produce a series like that for an international audience. It has an US-centered outlook with a strange mix of military and small-town values at its core. It drops any pretense that acting out the violent fantasies of its audience has to motivated by being on the right side and doing the right thing. The main positive characters treat the bad ones cowardly and with lots of unnecessary violence, because 'it is a war'. It is no longer about bringing bad people to justice at the end, but to kill them all brutally - basically it invites us to be part of a lynch mob and feel good about it.
And finally: We live 2022 in a world where every place is connected to any other place almost instantly with video feeds - and one plot element hinges on the fact that two US scientists are out of the country and cannot be reached for days?

It's a bit gormless, there are flashes of wit early on, but the lead just doesn't have the charisma to carry the whole show, it feels very network TV, circa 2003. Clunky stale fight choreography, and pretty poor camera work. It's inoffensive enough, but also bland.

An empty vessel filled with clichés, cardboard characters, seriously silly dialogue and predictable outcomes that lead nowhere but boredom for the most part. Even some pretty gruesome scenes could not evoke more emotion than my uninterested shrug. This series tries hard - too hard - to be anything, but fails miserably, to the point it gets annoying for trying. If you're a Reacher fan you'll probably like this. I'm just a wanderer looking for the next well-made series and this simply did not deliver.

Well, this Reacher is certainly more true to the book but that's faint praise. It's kind of stilted and cartoonish.. maybe that was intended, but not what I was looking for.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. There is dumb and there is Reacher level dumb. This is a pretty dumb show with a dumb plot and storyline. The only reason I gave it a score of 4 is because we get to see the beautiful **** of the lovely and petite Willa Fitzgerald in episode 4. Expand

Fortunately for the series, [Alan Ritchson is] gifted enough—and has a sufficient sense of understated humor—to sell a Reacher-worthy combination of menace, cynicism and even grudging warmth. It's something that helps make the show one of the more watchable on TV, where there's certainly no shortage of crime series.

Reacher 2.0 is cleverly plotted, perfectly paced and isn't short of depth.

It is a show that knows exactly what it is and what it needs to be, providing an entertaining catharsis in seeing Reacher take down those who abuse their power. He is capable of just about anything, for better or worse. ... Whatever path Reacher ends up taking, as long as he is played by Ritchson, the material is in good hands.
