Alas, Banshee's geometrically progressing body count is bringing it to an end this weekend. The good news is I may have found a replacement. AMC's Preacher, a preposterous goulash of drunken vampires, exploding clergymen, and small town psychosexual kink, seems to share the same cheerily bedlamite DNA that made Banshee such a hallucinatory good time. It has a chance to crossbreed the better angels of character drama with devilish genre splatter. Within its oversize color panels there’s some hard-boiled philosophy about trying to be good in a world of sin. And there’s little on TV quite like its fallen world. Read full review

Preacher comes on aggressively, but the third and fourth episodes give Catlin and the writers the chance to explore some of bigger picture theological issues and hint at growing maturity, even if that maturity still comes with gruesome jokes and pop culture references galore. I am just another fan of the original comic. While a few things were changed, season 1 of Preacher was amazing. It reminds me a lot of Breaking Bad, and we are slowly seeing the main characters become their comic counterparts. I am very excited for the next season(s). This show is hilarious! It's witty, it's well written, the characters are fantastic! I don't think I've liked a character as much as I do Cassidy. It is VERY VIOLENT so be aware of that, you also might not like it if you are a religious type, so be warned. However if you love dark humor, andThis show is hilarious! As a giant fan of the Garth Ennis original graphic novel series, I am happy they have made changes (casting/origin) but kept to the heart of the Preacher universe. Best pilot episode I have seen for a show, possibly ever. Can't wait to see what they throw at us this season.

One of the shows that have become better than the already excellent first season. It would be hard to say its the best new shows that came around from last year, but with their adventures rather as weirder with religious allusions, it has made raised the bar.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm a big, fat, sweaty fan of the comics. I've reread them multiple times and come back to them on a yearly basis. The series is fine, for now. I can see that they are going to remain in Angelville for a while, which is odd as they breezed past this place in the first issue. Yet, after the second episode (the first one was a little weak, as Preacher himself is a wimp compared to the comic books), I can see that there is great potential, thanks to the reveal of the Saint of Killers - they've picked the perfect actor for him and that alone is keeping me going. Plus, Herr Star will obviously show up and then it will all come together. I'd say after two or three seasons, this will be a star show.… Expand

Four episodes out of six into the first season and I am wondering if anything is going to happen. Stylish ass-kicking does not in itself constitute a plot. Whole scenes go by in which nothing is said that matters and the plot doesn't move. I have a feeling that this must just be 'True Blood' for straight men. We're just gonna hang around this small town getting to know boring people and solving their little life-problems forever. And the sign outside the church is getting old already. I'm bored.… Expand

Seulement 10 épisodes pour la première saison et poutant il faut croire que c'est encore trop, bien trop pour les crétins de scénaristes qui se la coulent douce en banales provocations et tarantinades pleines d'hémoglobine... car Preacher est incroyablement creux et sans âme.

Et étonnamment poussif également : difficile de ne pas piquer du nez à chaque (long) épisode durant lequel on se pose toujours la même question : "quand est-ce que l'histoire va enfin commencer ? quand est-ce que ça décolle ce truc ?"

A part brasser du vent et se la jouer redresseur de torts alcoolo-tabagique, à part utiliser son "pouvoir" de persuasion très persuasif et coller des gnons de temps à autre, le "prédicateur" très angéliste est une coquille vide qui fait toujours "toc", peu importe ce que les abrutis de scénaristes tentent d'y mettre ; sa comparse agitée très casse-burnes n'est pas mieux logée, elle qui semble concourir en permanence au festival de la reine des connes du mois.

Le débilos de vampire qui sert à rien à part tenter vainement d'amuser la galerie et l'autre gogol à tronche de cul participent à la vacuité ambiante, sans compter les "méchants" et leurs grands chapeaux qui sont juste là, eux aussi; pour meubler cette couillonnade générale, prétentieuse et navrante.… Expand
