Stupid, boring show. The thing that bothers me the most is that it could have been good. It was supposed to be the new Breaking Bad. Instead, it's just bad.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Well, big disappointment. Season 1 was great, Marty and decent guy fighting for his life. His wife and family trying to cope with the truth about their plight. Now, everything is normal. Marty has gone over to the dark side and his wife has followed. Where is the moral struggle? Over the top gratuitous shock value violence. Comic book ruthless villains without an ounce of humanity, and way too many of them. And their plan, these savvy survivors - they're going to build a casino for the Cartel and get 3% in perpetuity as they head out on the lamb? Really? And the bad guys are going to go along with that? Try again. I'm out. Expand

Very unlikable. As others have mentioned, very dark (unrealistically so) leads to all out depression emanating from the screen. Everyone is bland and the leftist agenda has come out swinging. Omg, like usual, the 9s and 10s are blatantly obvious shills. I endured through episode 3 before calling time of death. The main problem is dramatic plausibility. The first episode reveals a horrifying incident of cartel vengeance and subsequent family upheaval but Marty comes away unscathed either physically or psychically/emotionally, just stupid. Also, when you watch/follow a show, you have to like where it's taking you, its visuals, its characters, its settings/environment. This show is all about the criminal life of money laundering, fraud, murder, adultery, and Deliverance-style backwoods rednecks, so that's not an investment of time and attention I want to make. However, the main problem is the writing and character development, the setting/environ could be tolerated if the characters were well written and engaging, but they're just not, they're not realistic and that's a fatal flaw. I took a look at the first chapter and half of the second and I did not want to see any more. Disappointment of Neflix.

I could not watch much beyond the episode where the Mexicans make their executions, the wife's infidelity and theft are exposed, and the decision is made to resettle in the Ozarks. The aftermath is just not a plausible scenario for me. Batemen's reaction to his spouse's betrayal should have been one of , " I think she should join her partner on the sidewalk. " and this is what I was fully expecting. That would have been the normal reaction, not one of reconciliation. The fact that this did not occur tints the rest of the series for me and renders it unwatchable. The writers need not have structured it this way, a poor decision on their part. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The violence is off putting but I think it is also realistic, so sure, it should be disturbing. I think the scenarios rang true without going into too much detail about the bookkeeping for money laundering. I think it also helped clarify why a certain politician had a casino and used that for the mob and let it go when it no longer was plausible. I was relieved when the owner of the resort drove away with a bundle of cash and only looked back for a moment. That was the right thing to do. I didn't like certain aspects of the show because of the graphic nature but it did drive home how desperate the situation was. Trying to decide who is truly evil, who is just surviving, and who should win is sometimes tricky. The FBI doesn't seem to be heroic, and the local police look in over their heads. Expand

Unrealistic! The cops don't seize a huge poppy field which is illegal, , the kids don't understand they can easily be killed and keep complaining, no way can a dealer sell millions of dollar of heroin on a lake during religious sermons. The Feds know marty is working with the cartel but doesn't spy on him and doesn't watch him when he talks to criminals. No way enough money can be laundered through a small gas/restaurant, a strip club, and a church. The cops are supposedly noble cops but don't investigate the heroin dealer. The FBI agent watching them does completely illegal things, the informant takes drugs from the agent but still thinks listens to him as if he's a good agent. The cops wait outside a house to catch a caretel member but doesn't check the place after a shotgun goes off. Marty finds out someone had a wire but doesn't suspect the FBI for investigating their buisnesses. This show is good if you don't understand how the world works or if you don't know any laws. Too many holes and people are stupid! If you understand logic then you would like the show. Expand

Ozark or, as I've begun to call it. ODark, is compelling and has intriguing characters, but I'm finding it VERY DIFFICULT to watch a show that is soooo DARK that you can't see it. Take note that the trailer is filmed in the dark as well - I am no fan of this type of presentation. Expand

A lot of this would play more thrillingly if the characters didn’t seem as wooden; if the series felt like it was written to serve more than just a need to present power plays.

Ozark’s insistence on presenting the grimiest version of its story possible stands in the way of explaining why anything within its universe is happening. The presentation and the characters and the smug tone eventually coalesce into something deeply irritating. ... Ozark is offensive and doesn’t understand why it’s offensive.

The show has an occasionally suspenseful twist. (Electrocution in the water: Watch out!) But as it proceeds, Ozark takes way too long to make a few good points and to showcase a few good performances, most prominently Jason Bateman’s.
