It was okay. Not a bad adaptation but not a great one. Been watch and reading one piece for about 20 years and it hits a lot of places where it will make you happy but misses a few important plot points that makes one piece one piece. Didn’t like how gold Roger looked but that’s okay. Guy who played Coby is a perfect coby. Anyways, definitely worth a watch and hopefully it gets better as more seasons come. Expand

Looks like it was literally cast with Comic Con attendees. That's not a knock on the acting necessarily which by and large is pretty good, but damn does the show itself look fake. I realize it's meant to be a bit wacky/over the top, but all of the pirates look like they just stepped off a Ralph Lauren shoot or something. I kept feeling like I was watching Xena the Warrior Princess or something with that kind of shoestring budget. In the 90s. It's cosplay television.

That aside, I would also say that it makes more sense having seen the original anime, as they have to truncate a lot of the 60-episode first season for this. But it's not bad. Frankly, I just can't buy into it visually. I wanted to like it more.

If the anime is a 9.5/10 this is a 4/10. It loses most its heart and comedy...also because a lot of Story has been cut to fit into 8 episodes.
Cgi and fight scenes as well as sets and costumes are not impressive either for the budget..

The show is pretty mid. Fight scenes are sickening to watch cause of all the jump cuts. Funny things from the manga just end up being cringe in live action. Story beats from the manga and anime seemed to be cut and replaced with dumber side stories. On to the good I really like the cast of actors, the sets are stunning, and the costumes are 1 to 1 incredible. Other than that the show is mid. Expand

Its a Ok, but it isn´t better than the anime.
The ambience is very good. You can immerse yourself in the environment until the main characters appear, they seem very cartoonish and is not inmersive. Some things in the story were changed to create a better history for an adaptation but sometime is very rare.

Luffy is strange, his smile terrifies me, i don´t feel his innocence, his foolishness neither. Coby doesn´t look terrified when Alvida appears. Buggy is not Buggy is like The Joker...

The scene when shanks lost his arm in the anime makes me cry but in the serie is only a mehh... and many things that teach that the anime and live action are not compatible..

I don´t recomend it to a person who don´t knows One Piece either a person who likes One Piece, only a person who loves One Piece and is the only thing in his mind.

    Anime 10/10
    Manga 9/10
    The Netflix adaptation is 4/10

look i really appreciate what the director did to bring all the easter eggs and refrencess from odas work, with that being said this isnt the "one piece" we know, i really belive everyone has their own view on a franchise and one piece is one of the chaotic ones when in it comes to fans view of the seris, some sees it as the best shonen ever was - its not- some sees it has the bestlook i really appreciate what the director did to bring all the easter eggs and refrencess from odas work, with that being said this isnt the "one piece" we know, i really belive everyone has their own view on a franchise and one piece is one of the chaotic ones when in it comes to fans view of the seris, some sees it as the best shonen ever was - its not- some sees it has the best figthing and characther devolpment - and that varies- what made one piecewhat it is is 2 major things, the world bulding with its lore and the funny humor component it has and how it mixes well with feelings,so when i see zoro talks like a tiktok fk boy with the most deep fry annoying **** i ever heard ?, you lost me i still enjoyed a lot of the tv show, but its not a good adaptation to the mangaill see it as a diffrent universe like how marvel do their **** and they should be like that tbh, make zoro edgy, change the story slightly make the dialougue better and feels natural not ****ty anime dub learn from the mistakes this season so when you do the second core when you have arabasta and skypia ? you got good matrial for cinematic show go off kings ! these 2 arcs the best ones to adapt fully, improve and adapt you already changed it dont go back and forth stick to your change and do smthng aowsome with it, btw Sanji is so good and i love him you did great with him he ltrly made the tv show enjoyable Expand

Not Perfect, but as close as you can get it.

My biggest concern from the series was rushing the source material. Usopp's flashback acting was very rough and by the time we got to Nami's back story, I was bored and ready to stop. It's weird they had the side quest of Koby, since the story could have stayed with the Straw hats and came up with a narrative that could have been used and no one would have cared. However the Visuals and casting the main characters were great and for some reason the lighting was very soft and looked like it was missing a cinematic look. regardless of the sets and settings, we're missing the characters interacting with the world around them. At least it wasn't completely Cosplay and every costume choice was great. in the end I probably wouldn't watch it again and hope series start respecting story over adaptation, regardless of Oda's (the creator) influence.

This was my first contact with the franchise, so no comparison. The plot issues are distracting and the main character's backstories drag enough to make me loose patience with it. I stopped paying attention by episode 3 - it was playing on the background until the end. It has a fun and silly energy that made me smile though.

Good cast, good acting, decently compressed the plot (they had to because early One Piece takes a loooooong time until things get going). What kills this for me is how ridiculously low budget the sets, props, the fights and especially the characters look. They look like first time cosplayers, not kidding. One piece has many of the most colourful characters in manga/anime. This looks weaker that a fan made YouTube production.
Really really a shame and a wasted potential.

It was okay, probably one of the better American live action adaptations made so far.

At best, you might find yourself really engaged in One Piece. At worst, it’s still something fun to have on in the background.

One Piece defies the odds by being faithful to its source while also standing on its own.
