It is hard to successfully convert an animated series into live action, but this one is a train wreck. It reminds me a bit of Shymalan’s failed attempt at a live action “Last Airbender.” The acting is wooden and not believable — but the actors don’t have a lot to work with in the script. The action sequences use a host of cliche moves — but done with slow, exaggerated movement. StickIt is hard to successfully convert an animated series into live action, but this one is a train wreck. You are a terrible human being if you like this adaptation of the great manga and anime that is One Piece. Terrible acting, no respect for the original material and terrible, just terrible presentation. You can not help but cringe every 5 min for how bad it is. This live adaption should have never happened and i knew that the moment i saw the trailer.

Acting is not the problem it is the writing that is terrible. The show takes it self more serious than the anime which makes the silly parts cringe such as garps hat or arlong's appearance. Characters like buggy sound like they're going on an endless rant and their funny quirks are gone so it comes off as forced. Koby is portrayed by a female which is a shame that he wont be that stand upActing is not the problem it is the writing that is terrible. Last Airbender, Dragonball & Death Note tier adaptation, With a bigger budget. NA can't produce an original, great anime inspired product; and can't even adapt something that has direct reference decently. It's one of the GREATEST TITLE OF ALL TIME with a quarter of a CENTURY of LEGACY for God's sake. Learn from Rurouni and Bleach. Feel bad for Oda, but corpo Netflix got him to "approve".Last Airbender, Dragonball & Death Note tier adaptation, With a bigger budget. Main characters cast are alright. I'll give a point for that. But this doesn't EVEN COME ANYWHERE CLOSE to representing OPs GREATNESS, with all due respect. This ain't it. Effort was there, allegedly. Expand

I've never touched a manga or watched the original animated series, so authenticity is off the table for me. But I heard this project had a sky-high budget.

Honestly, I'm scratching my head wondering, "Where did all that money go?" The show looks like it was stitched together by a high school drama department on a tight budget. The actors? Unlikable. Except for the guy who played

Honestly, I'm scratching my head wondering, "Where did all that money go?"

The show looks like it was stitched together by a high school drama department on a tight budget.

The actors? Unlikable. Except for the guy who played Zoro—he's the lone exception to the disaster. It's like they read the script but skipped the chapter on 'How to Act 101.'

The makeup looks like a failed YouTube tutorial.

And the props? Let's just say a high school theater production would be embarrassed to use them.

The plot has potential; it's good in its essence. But the execution is so painfully awkward that it takes the wind right out of the narrative's sails.

I can't shake the feeling that Netflix hired a high-priced subcontractor who then scrimped on every conceivable element, leaving us with what looks like a cheap knock-off.

They hired actors who'd probably work for exposure, used props that wouldn't pass muster at a yard sale, and pocketed the rest. If this trend is the future of Hollywood, then we're sailing into a cinematic apocalypse.

So, bottom line? This show could've been a treasure chest of entertainment, but instead, it's more like a sunken ship—with no chance of salvaging.

Yikes, the dialogue sounds like it came unedited out of a chat gpt model, trained exclusively on stories written by 10 year olds. It's shot in a weird clunky way, trying to ape manga, but not quite leaning into it enough, so instead is looks like live action pantomime.

At best, you might find yourself really engaged in One Piece. At worst, it’s still something fun to have on in the background.

Swashbuckling, guys: It never fails to bring a smile to our faces. So grab a bowl of cereal, then, and build yourself a sofa fort, because One Piece has your weekend plans sorted.

One Piece defies the odds by being faithful to its source while also standing on its own.
