This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A dumb episode, shoddy worldbuilding, and some odd choices in terms of production value aside, this is a fantastic show. A wonderful atmosphere, great characters, great action when it occurs (usually), great acting, and an emotional story are what make this show fantastic. Obi-Wan and Leia are phenomenal. And you people should stop complaining about Reva, she is a fantastic character. And that final episode... Wow. Obi-Wan and Vader's emotional duel, and when Leia says the Anakin thing and everything is just tied together so beautifully and sadly... Oh my gosh, I'm tearing up. It certainly has flaws, but the writing, acting, and atmosphere make up for them beautifully.

This is the best Star Wars TV show. Period. End of story.

Maybe you got annoyed with Reva, child Leia, etc., but think about how BORING Andor is, 99% of the time. You'll come back to this and appreciate it more. THIS is Star Wars.

Nice to see Disney finally acknowledging the prequel era a little bit. Don't get me wrong, this still takes place in that post-RotS, pre-A New Hope safe space that Kathleen Kennedy seems absolutely terrified to move away from, but at the same time it feels tailor-made for those who grew up with that overly-hated second trilogy. It's the Star Wars content I've been most looking forward to for some time now. My favorite character in this massive, media-spanning franchise has always been Obi-Wan, and given what a tiny part he had in the OT that is in no small part due to Ewan McGregor's performance. So getting to see him step back into that role, alongside other returning faces from those same movies, hit all the right nostalgic notes for me while also providing a story with some actual significance in the canon due to the way it shows how the legendary Jedi went from being the broken man we saw at the end of Episode III to the reinvigorated wise mentor who would lead Luke on the first steps of his journey in Episode IV.

So this isn't just dusting off a fan favorite for a quick good time Solo-style, but actually provides the last essential piece of history for one of the franchise's most important personas. Kenobi's entire arc here sees him forced to face the demons of his past in a struggle that's as much internal as it is external. A conflict that ultimately allows him to rediscover a sense of peace, understanding, and his faith. It carries profound themes of self-forgiveness (particularly if what happened wasn't truly your fault), letting go of trauma, and forging a new, healthier path. I hear a lot of people complaining about Third Sister Reva, but while it may be a bit redundant her inclusion really helps to hammer that message home even further.

All the underlying depth of its subtext wouldn't mean much however if the miniseries wasn't fun to watch. Luckily the core dynamic between the titular hero and the child-aged version of a very familiar princess is absolutely charming, and there were still plenty of tense moments that had my heart skipping a beat despite the fact that its prequel nature meant I knew who was in real danger or not. This period in the saga is also excellently brought to life with an appropriate tone of hopelessness and desperation similar to Rogue One as the good people in the galaxy far, far away are forced into hiding or subjugation to survive being hunted.

By far the greatest source of excitement though has got to be Darth Vader. It's been touted across countless films, shows, and literature how those under the Empire's rule lived in complete terror of his immense power, but this is the first piece of the fiction I've come across that's allowed us to see it for ourselves. The Sith lord is simply terrifying here, performing feats straight out of The Force Unleashed video game. Something made all the sweeter thanks to the unfairly treated Hayden Christensen coming back to don the iconic helmet. The action is of a grittier nature than we typically get from the brand as well, with lightsabers getting forsaken for some old fashioned fisticuffs and displays of the force that are more massive and bombastic than anything in any of the 9 films prior.

It's refreshing to receive a project that seems built from the ground up for the portion of the community that's been largely ignored since George Lucas sold the rights to his space opera baby. Especially since it provides the final vital chapter in the history of its protagonist. Those "fans" who have been upset about everything since the first two-thirds of Return of the Jedi are better off passing, as this serves as a continuation to a part of the saga they have no appreciation for anyways. Yet, for those of us who actually like Star Wars? There are a few minor niggles with things like characters inexplicably choosing to not wipe out certain threats or how apparently taking a laser sword to the gut isn't fatal anymore, but at long last we have been given the full picture of Obi-Wan's life, and that is worth celebrating.

The plot/story is pretty good, as Obi-Wan Kenobi has to come out of hiding to save a young Leia from the Empire. However, Leia is just a trap for the Empire to get to Kenobi. It leads to a good story that doesn't slow down that much, and makes for a solid six-episode plot. The characters are really good in my opinion, other then a few flaws I have with some of them. The Third Sister/Reva is incredibly not my type of character, just not a character I could get into. The Grand Inquisitor was also RARELY used, and his only big spot was getting "killed" by The Third Sister/Reva and then coming back for less than a minute combined in the fifth and final episode. Other then that, good characters. Ewan is remarkable as Obi-Wan Kenobi, and the kid actors don't do bad at all, infact the kid actor for Leia is great. The music is good as always, Star Wars never really disappoints when it comes to music. And the scenary/backgrounds look good. Bleak when they should be bleak, and really cool looking at other times. The fight scenes are good when they happen, there's only...three lightsaber vs. lightsaber fights, and I think they're all entertaining. My favorite has to be the final episode fight between Obi-Wan and Vader. Overall this is a really good miniseries, and one of my favorites on Disney+ so far. Expand

I understand the show is very flawed and I‘ll get into what I don’t like about it but as with The Last Jedi, when this show nails stuff, it really truly does nail stuff and it ends up becoming some of my favorite Star Wars content. Ewan McGregor is obviously the best part of this show. His performance is amazing and even better than it was in the prequels as the dialogue is a lot better. I loved seeing him back in this role and I liked how they treated him in the same vein as Luke from The Last Jedi where he’s a broken man and cut off from the force and has to find his way to being the hero again this time in the form of Leia. I liked Leia in this show. While the actress’s performance wasn’t amazing, the mannerisms and dialogue felt like Leia in my opinion. Hayden Christensen did a great job when he wasn’t under the Vader mask and his performance was definitely better than the prequels. I loved Vader in the show and his dynamic with Obi-Wan. Vader felt like a serious threat and some of his scenes were badass especially their final duel at the end of the show. Their final dual has issues in terms of presentation but the emotion and performances really carry it and it can feel emotional if you love Obi-Wan like I do. My issue with the final duel is that the camera shakes way too much. This is a criticism of the show in general. They don’t really like to keep the camera still and it does get annoying after a while. Some of the sets also feel somewhat cheap at times. Not all the sets feel like this but Vader’s castle just feels off and same with the sets in Episode 3. I think Reva is a fun addition to the universe. She does make some contradictory decisions in terms of who she is but I enjoyed seeing what they did with her. Deborah Chow’s direction was kind of mixed to me. It worked sometimes and other times it didn’t which is strange because her direction in shows like Better Call Saul is fantastic. The music is great as well. It’s not the best in the world but it works very well for the show although I wished they had pulled some more tracks from the movies themselves. John Williams original theme for the show is great though. The fan service wasn’t too overbearing like it can be with other shows and it makes sense for this show. This is a great addition to the Star Wars universe that I would definitely recommend checking out. Expand

I see many critics who don't really understand the universe of Star Wars and the brilliant job that the team did actually put together by making this series.
It's not so simple being a screenwriter, specially if you have such an overwhelming script to be in charge of. Obi Wan's prequel to episode IV managed to build a bridge between a gap from the third to the fourth episode and to give Hayden it's seat near the sunrise, even though he could had more minutes. Plus, the actress portraying Leia will soon turn out to be a great star. Not sure I would call this a failure or at least an average tv series...

I found Kenobi to contain a great compromise between the environments of the prequels and the OT, bridging a gap that showcases new fights, new dialogue and new insights into the growth of Obi-Wan Kenobi into Ben. However, the series does suffer from some predictable dialogue and some questionable episodes where characters do things that seem unreasonable and odd. Some characters have some plot armor more than others. I definitely felt the script needed a bit more polish and I would have liked to see more of the Grand inquisitor. However, if you truly adored the world of the prequels, Hayden, Ewan and more of the OT, this is a series that you would probably like. If not for the slightly predictable format, I think this series would have faired a bit higher. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The main focus of the first season is the conflict between Anakin and Obi-Wan, and the final episode brings the whole first season to a brilliant conclusion. Everything else besides this conflict is just "background music". Some episodes may be silly, not logical, full of cringe moments - it does not matter. All that matters is the conflict, the relationship between Anakin and Obi-Wan. And the way the last episode shows the final fight is heartbreaking. In this little scene we see the whole transformation of Anakin to Vader in all its tragic, in all its brutality. This outweighs all the other shortcomings of this season.

Besides that I want to address other topics:

1. Obi-Wan found his old strength and overcame his weakness. He now is even stronger than ever, because he could defeat Vader so very clearly and fundamentally - Vader had no chance and Obi-Wan could have killed him; but he is a Jedi and he walked away, nothing wrong with that. In other words: An older white man found his strength, overcame his weakness and is walking firmly in his future. There is nothing "woke" about this at all!

2. There is a scene, where Reva sees the unconscious Luke - and then sees herself in him. The picture of a white boy changes to the picture of a girl of color. This is also a strong symbol, this is also not "woke", on the contrary: it is inclusive in the best way! And then we see Leia, how she prepares a costume that resembles Obi-Wans costume very strongly. This is also a very nice scene and there is nothing wrong with it: Of course Leia can be another protagonist, why not? We have so much Luke Skywalker in the old movies. And it is also not "woke" that an older white man can be an inspiration for a young girl.

3.And then there is this scene with Vader and Palpatine, where Palpatine urges Vader to overcome his past. This is also a very powerful scene: We see the completion of the transformation from Anakin to Vader - and we see once again that Emperor Palpatine is truly the greatest movie-gaslighter of all times.

4. And finally "Hello there"...

My score is only 7 because the first and fourth episode were a bit dull. I expect the 6th and final will be excellent. I want to refute a disingenuous review suggesting Disney needed to create controversy to get the show review bombed with positive reviews. The series WAS review bombed first with negative reviews by the Fandom Menace crowd lowering proper respectable score. Thats just vandalism. It hurts the site and the people who depend on it for guidance. Your justification for doing it is your collectively audience members too. It's fun, melodramatic and it's great to see Vader doing his thing. Yes, there are some serious logical issues, head scratching moments, etc, but it's still fun. For the record, I do feel that this is technically rather weak at times. The score is usually awful, the effects sometimes feel cheap and low budget, and it fails to achieve cinematic grandeur. Almost feels like an ambitious, well done fan film. It should be more than this IMO. Still, I love the drama and overall story. It's dark and intense. Cutsey, precocious Leia character is a bit much at times. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This show has all of the elements you hope to find in Star Wars-related content. Something that will keep you suspended on the edge of your seat but with enough nods to the stuff you love to make you smile. The Acting from the cast is perfect with Ewan McGregor leading the charge with another great performance that encapsulates a blend of Alec Guinness and The Prequels with new layers that makes the character feel relatable without losing its familiarity. Vivian Lyra Blair as a young Princess Leia encapsulates the very essence of the late Carrie Fisher from her priceless and sharp wit to her inspirational grace wrapped in a youthful innocence filled with hopefulness. On the antagonistic side, we get a very straight-laced militaristic performance from Moses Ingram as Reva a.k.a The Third Sister which (although people have often criticized this as "wooden") I think offers a lot of potential for development, especially into what is left of the series. As for Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader. This alone is a perfect selling point. Although what we've seen by this point (episode 4) is very little. Hayden as Vader is a real scene-stealer whose performance carries a level of fear and suspense that makes Vader who he is.

The directing style and decisions made by Deborah Chow have been fun to watch, from the teaming up of Obi-Wan and Leia to the use of Reva as an aggressor and cunning opposition in this almost cat and mouse chase. Overall I can't wait for the remaining half of this series (and if the rumors are to be believed A prospected second series). Sure the show has its slight imperfections (especially probably due to Covid or the regular mixture of opinions found in making TV or Film.) however it's a perfect show to sit back and immerse yourself into.

For all the knit picking by so called “fans”, I have found this series enjoyable.
Ewan McGregor has been as good as advertised. Moses Ingram has done a good job as the inquisitor, Reva. The return of Darth Vader, through the voice of James Earl Jones and body of Hayden Christensen, has given me goosebumps. Director Deborah Chow has found a different way to make a scary character, even more menacing. The real star of this show has been 10-year-old Vivian Lyra Blair. She steals every scene she’s in. I love how she delivers every line, like she’s been doing this for years. The shows have been surprisingly short and it seems like the producers are trying to fit in a lot of information. There have been some minor plot holes.

There are two episodes left and it makes me sad. It’s been a wild ride.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. While it's too early to tell, I think this series is pretty fun so far!
I can certainly see why many other hardcore fans would be disappointed, and I fully respect their opinions, but personally, I can only agree with a few.

Obi-Wan (McGregor's) performance is always stunning, and seeing him broken after revenge of the sith feels appropiate, not character assasination like many claim. This "lowest point" in his character sets up his line in his fight with maul. "Look what I have risen above"

Child Leia, once again, is underestandable for people to dislike. But for me? I thought it was fun! Of course, I'm as fed up as anyone with every series needing to have the "little kiddie character!!!" but in this case I enjoy the premise. We always see Luke during this time period, never Leia, and as someone who was never too invested in her character during the OT movies, I think seeing this will help! The acting for her is mostly as good as can be expected of a child, although her actions and dialogue do feel a little corny at times, they need to keep it in check.
the Vader scene felt intense, and the action overall is really good! Unlike some ppl say, I like the music! Sure, there's some small nitpicks to have with the flow of the action but so far (episode 3) nothing too deal-breaking. The acting for the grand inquisitor and the other two alien inquisitors is great, better than rebels for sure, and I already liked the Grand Inquisitor from Rebels!

Now, the elephant in the room. Yeah, Reva is a boring and lame villain. I feel like there's more to her we don't know, and dependign on how it's handled it might make her more likeable, but right now she's not scary, not badass, not cool-looking, doesn't have any interesting demeanor, and is just overall absolutely lame as a villain. Reva should've been replaced by the grand inquisitor

3rd Episode Edit: It gets better, Leia is pretty fun and not as annoying as other child sidekicks, there's lots of exciting and tense moments where I was actually tense about the characters and caring about what would happen to them. Reva slowly gets better. While the direction / design for her isn't that good IMO, the acting is good and she slowly becomes less annoying. i still don't like her as a character overall, but she's not really ruining the show for me either as others claim

Obi Wan, who killed Darth Maul and crippled Vader, is basically a normal person from a decade of skipping Jedi Leg Day, despite presumably hoping to train Luke. Even though he previously crippled Darth Vader in the prequels, Darth Vader beats him like a child in this series. They face off, Kenobe 'nopes' and just runs away like a scared child. There are some giant holes in the plot as well, like when people are fleeing in a one way tunnel and the bad guy discovers the tunnel sometime later and somehow winds up on the other side of it to catch them as they exit. It's not bad as a star wars story, but as of 4 episodes it's weak as a Kenobe story and leaves Kenobe feeling like a secondary character. It's still entertaining though, which is why it's in the green, and its worth trying to see if you'll like it. This thing is in the red only in the sense of how high a bar it has to set. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I think this may be my favorite of the Disney+ series overall, let alone the Star Wars series. The acting is great, well done by the cast which was perfectly assembled. Darth Vader is once again scary as he should be, and the special effects in general are also vreat. If the Book of Boba Fett had been given this much love and care, I would have been very happy. But I can be content to know Obi-Wan was given so much respect, along with all of the characters in this story. Expand

A tremendous effort, by an amazing cast. Writing is a little on the dry side, but that's only due to the strict constraints of the time frame to be able to fit within what is already canon so doesn't impact the series negatively in my opinion
