This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Overall very dull with the worst foot-chases in film history. The writing and directing is terrible and the 'antagonist' is a one-note character, badly acted. I say 'antagonist' as it's obvious she's going to have a redemption shoe-horned in by the end. Actually worse than Boba Fett because at least that was entertaining at times. Expand

Some odd decisions. Not sure which direction they are going for with it. Does feel like it's very woke. Kenobi is portrayed as weak and useless where in every other film he never gives up and is a real hero character. Not good

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Honestly this show made me so angry, I wanted to give it a 0, but objectively, if someone isnt a star Wars fan, I think a 3 is right. So what you get here is another broken Jedi (remember Luke in sequels) that somehow forgot all his training and lost all his skills and became a coward. Suddenly the show revolves around little Leia, who is pictured as wonder child, speaking like an adult and escaping bonty hunters on her 10 years old legs.Obi wan forgot how to use a lightsaber, and ofc a woman saves him. So if you are a Star Wars fan , i could go on but in a nutshell its a destruction of acharacter, again, which made my blood boil. If you arent a Star wars fan, its still a really badly written show with plenty of plot holes and parts that look like a farce. On the good side a few scenes are good, and generally imho the production value is high.Im sad that Ewan took part in this, he is sucha good actor and likable person. Oh boy Metacritic can accept 700 very obvious 10-star bot reviews but my actual honest review just gets stuck when I try to submit it.

Long story short, the show is garbage. It's so garbage that they need to pay for bot reviews to try and hide how garbage it is. It's quite impressive how they can have all of the possible benefits; limitless money, the original actors, professional script writers, etc, and still write and direct something that is somehow worse than fan edits and fan fiction on youtube.

Most of the characters are just annoying (little Leia and Reva). You can accuse the community of racism as much as you want, but the actress playing Reva plays her role just awful. I mind the god-awful single dimensional pointless characters and silly directing, idiotic shots and useless plotlines. The writing is sub par and paper thin. Darth has become a oneliner cannon and obvious routes, seen from a mile away, are taken. It is slow, not exciting and facepalm moments galore make me glad it is over. The convenient road is best avoided with so many plotholes. Better take a detour. Being StarWars doesn't automatically mean it is any good cinema. The camera, editing, writing... Sheesh. I am sure any kid of factually 10 years old can do a much better job. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The main character. Once again, we see the lack of understanding from these so-called writers and once again they want to tell their own story and send their own messages which do not go along with what was set in the original story.
Kenobi - a hopeful and strong Jedi. He wouldn’t bury his lightsaber and try to run away from his past. He’d met this head on, and meditate on his mistakes to overcome them. Instead we get this depressed man, who’s years of martial and spiritual training somehow withered, under the weight of his memories. That is not the man who kept going forward after his master died, not the man who went into the Jedi Temple risking his life so that the remaining Jedi wouldn't fall into a trap. So despite the grief, he would never give up hope and stopped being what he was. When Kenobi went to Tatooine it was to hide Luke and himself from the Empire. He had a mission to watch for the boy. Sure, he was under the weight of guilt and pain, he is a living being after all, but his Jedi training has prepared him for such things. Also Obi-Wan wouldn't decline the call for help.Ewan McGregor is playing some dude named Obi-Wan, but when we see that character, it is clear that it is not Obi-Wan. (Even if in the end all his virtues, skills and power instantly returned.)
The Antagonists.
Reva is the angry creature which I haven’t felt any sympathy for. If she sought revenge against Vader, what was the reason to hunt for Kenobi? To get close to her target? Surely there were other ways. And the way she was hurting civilians, chopping off their limbs, screaming out threats esspecially when the other Inquisitors didn’t, makes her even worse. Her attempt to torture Leia doesn’t bring much sympathy for her neither. And that is a problem with that character – she isn’t consistent. Her plan is futile. Usually when the character seeks revenge he creates a plan, a design. It may have it's downsides but from the perspective of that being the plan will be consistent. Reva has no real plan for her revenge. And she is not after power. Power and revenge are two focuses of any being corrupted by The Dark Side. Instead, we have nothing. She is a villain, but not really. I should feel sympathy, but I don't because she cuts off hands, tortures kids and all that FOR NO REASON.
And in the end she goes after the child of his enemy. She’s willing to hit that low for her revenge but she won’t try to kill the boy’s guardians. By watching the previous films I know that these two characters won't die and I haven't felt any danger. And many fans knew that as well. So what was that all about?
Vader is needless here. He is not the villain, though perhaps he should’ve been.
There is no antagonist with enough motivation to follow Kenobi. But there are two whiny creatures that doubt their actions at every possible turn. Villain can have emotions, but when he is consumed by doubts it makes him less interesting to watch. I don’t believe that Vader would’ve just stood and watched Obi-Wan being saved, when he was so close to his revenge, especially in such a theatric and poetic manner. The antagonists? Ruined. Unfocused. Inconsistent. Choreography.
Clearly the movies were superior in that regard as well as the cartoons. Here though? I didn’t felt Obi-Wan’s mastery, or how unexpected and dominant a Vader’s style would be. It’s just lazy work, an empty one. Not the fault of the actors, but certainly of the one who created these duels which have no soul, and no meaning. The flashback of Anakin and Obi-Wan training felt kind of out of place, but apart of bringing us the feeling of Star Wars, it wasn’t meaningless and had a message in it so it was a good move.
The last fight. No one seems to understand the reason why George wouldn't give Force Wielders to much power. But I think I know the answer. In one scene we see Vader unable to do something about the wall of fire, in another we see him crushing the ground beneath. Kenobi barely catches a girl, but then lifts massive amount of stones like a Mary Sue.
Conclusion.
In my review on Boba Fett I explained in details why his character was broken even before the show has began, by Dave Filoni who tried to make the cold blooded bounty hunter into a warrior following the medival code. And there is also a case of Luke Skywalker from The Last Jedi movie. The problem is always the same. Those who rule over company do not want seek professionals, giving them more time to do their work. Instead, there is a rush, a schedule, and the desire of a company to make more money in the expense of art and the nostalgia, while also manipulating the collective mind that there are so many racists out there and that only they don’t like the show, so that the producers can do whatever they want and if you won’t like it – you’re the racist. Or chauvinist. Or some other label that makes your opinion obsolete even if your criticism has a lot of weight.

Update Anyone else notice that all the new reviews (that recently popped up after episode 3) have no user history? It looks like the same thing is happening on RT

The Force is weak with this one .... The acting of almost everyone else (except for EM and JE) just feels shallow. Including all the villains. The Special effects (and choreography) aren't that special - it feels a little better than what you might see on Doctor Who. I'm honestly thinking of giving up my Disney subscription. I was hoping that the Book of Bobba was just an aberration. Since this is based on the first three episodes, I'll revise if needed. (Update - I actually felt like laughing watching the big Vader / Obiwan encounter - it was that underwhelming - Obiwan ran just about as clumsily as Leia, Vader was presented in a weird way - weak, inconsistent with how he's been portrayed in the past). Why can't they get directors that are passionately committed to the material. Disney's goal in life is to troll the fans who've been with the franchise the longest.

It's painfully obvious that Disney has paid for 10/10 reviews, this franchise is dead. Killed by political idioligy, a cult who won't let normal people enjoy any kind of entertainment.

Disney have really missed an opportunity to tell an interesting story that fans of the original and prequels trilogies can really connect with, especially a series based around a main character who was at the centre of some very complex galactic politics. There could have been much more interesting storytelling about the formation and coordination of the rebellion, which would have been complicated. Instead, we sacrifice 2 of the most important characters in the series to a kids show. I have nothing against Star Wars kids shows in general, but Disney need to actually use their creative brains and make their own stories set in the same universe, rather than exploiting and disposing of existing characters and narratives, preventing them from ever getting the mature, high-quality shows/movies they deserve. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As of episode 3:

Not as bad as I feared, not nearly as good as it should be. Casting for young Leia is spot-on, but her vernacular feels too modern at times. Ewan is doing the best he can with a sub-par show, and Ingram could no doubt have been a good, or at least tolerable character, had only Lucasfilm not been utterly incompetent in both script and cinematography.

Anyone who has seen The Star Wars TV shows and animation will be very confused on the choices made with them killing off characters that already died at different times and places in shows already aired and completely different takes on characters then other shows at the same time period. This combined with the 2 absolute Cringy chase scenes that should NEVER been allowed to be aired and overall bad writing has forced me to stop watching it completely. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Where do I begin with this… I think Kenobi and the Book of Boba Fett are perfect examples of when a franchise becomes overly corporate and lacks any heart what so ever. Since episode 1 of Kenobi it was felt cheap, the writing has been very poor, the direction has been amateurish, the scenes feel blocky and lack logic. Characters that are meant to smart become incredibly dumb. Kenobi is completely deconstructed as a character and Disney nerf him into the ground. Kenobi’s whole job is to protect Luke yet he completely shuts himself off from the force and buried his lightsaber in the sands of tattooine. Kenobi frequently runs away from the fight. He is not the same character. He is a deconstruction of what used to be. Similarly to Luke Skywalker in the sequel trilogy, this character has been broken down and made an example of. The new inquisitor Reva is one of the most laughably terrible villains I’ve ever seen in Star Wars. No hate to the actress. I think she does what she’s told from the director and the writing doesn’t help. But the character of Reva exists to be amazing at everything and you will not understand one single motive of hers. The handling of Vader is something I have a problem with. I feel Disney just think they can throw Darth Vader out and the masses will drool. Not me. Vader is handled with little grace. The so called “rematch of the century” echoed by Kathleen Kennedy was a mediocre duel (if you can call it that) on a boring planet where Obi Wan runs away all the time and Vader let’s him go because of some fire…. I was never hot on the former master/apprentice meeting before a new hope and this is precisely the reason why I hate the decision. It makes zero sense now. I will say, Jimmy Smits and Joel Edgerton returning as Bail Organa and Uncle Owen are really amazing and they both do phenomenal jobs with their few scenes. I think the actors try their best with the **** sandwich they’ve been given. If you’re a prequel boy like me who grew up with the prequels and OT… skip Kenobi. Keep your memory of these characters in tact. Watch literally anything else. I recommend dune. Expand

Granted they are operating with limited options from a plot perspective, however I would have liked to see this focus more on the evolution of Obi Wan from episode 3 super Jedi to episode 4.. but instead they're just destroying a beloved character for the sake of an agenda and some pretty obvious tropes. It's like a roller coaster but the ups are short and fleeting, while the downs are drops that leave you screaming. If you remove the nostalgia factor from the show, it's very poorly written, directed, and acted (with the exception of Ewan, who does a very good job with what little he's given to work with).

While many viewers have an issue with how weak/damaged Kenobi is, it's easy to understand if you think what he went through in the prequels. He essentially failed at his main task of keeping Anakin in the light. On top of that for ten years he thought he had killed Anakin, his "brother." It's easy to see how that could devastate a person, add to that the formation of the Empire and order 66. I think he will get it back before the end of the season. The issue I have and the reason I give a lower rating is the shoehorning of the Reva character into the narrative. It's the Obi-wan show, not the Reva show. We are tuning in to see what happened to him and can't help but feel that this is an attempt at subversion in order to push another character. First Disney turned Luke into a blue milk drinking weirdo, then they murdered Han. Now, Obi-wan is in the second seat in his own show. This should be about Obi-wan and Vader/Anakin. It's not a time to introduce a new character. It's obvious she is being introduced to fulfill some internal quota at Disney. It's not that she could be an interesting character, it's just that we are getting so much of her with no back story in the prior movies or shows. She's also hard to watch. Overly coarse and aggressive and not particularly well acted. If you want to see Ingram in a better role, watch the Queens Gambit. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Disney has done Obi-Wan a disservice with 'Kenobi'. A prime example of the creative bankruptcy running rife through Western cinema and television. The writing for this show is appalling, especially considering the talent Disney can afford. Logic is thrown out the window and key details are not explained sufficiently meaning main plot points happen for....'reasons' rather than making sense and being well thought out. Evil characters are unnecessarily incompetent and Obi-Wan is relegated to being a side character in his own show at times. The directing style is also a mess. Numerous scenes play out as comedic when they are supposed to be serious. Examples of this include the chase scene in the forest where grown adults are unable to catch a child and are stopped by a small branch. Or when Obi-wan is walking through an imperial base with Leia under a great coat which numerous imperial personnel do not notice - it seems like a scene from 'Austin Powers'. Again, at no point has someone stopped to think, does this logically and realistically make sense. Yes it is a sci-fi but you need to ground your show in reality to make the setting believable. The cinematography is poor, often contrast is turned down so the scene is overly dark. Generally, it feels cheap overall as if the series was rushed. Surprising considering this story features Kenobi/Vader story.

Acting ranges from decent to laughable. Ewan McGregor does his best with a bad script. Moses Ingram acting is awful, she literally has one setting - angry and even that isn't convincing. Vivien Blair is competent but the writing for her character makes her unlikeable and annoying (this isn't the actresses fault).

Overall, a wasted opportunity that could have been so much more but let down by poor directing and writing.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I wanted to enjoy this, I really did. However Disney makes me abhor what Star Wars has become.

It started off so promising and crashed and burned without offering a single new insight.

There are so many illogical fallicies with the whole series, Obi-Wan should have told Bail Organa to go swivel as Bail failed in his mission to protect Leia on a planet he ran where there were many guards to protect her. Thus enforcing Obi-Wan into action and leaving Luke exposed with no real protection.

The series then meandered on with what felt like at least 4 filler episodes, during which we learned Obi-Wan can't keep his cover, he can't walk around a gate exposed at both sides and thinks walking through a hangar as a 4 legged hunchback is a good way of not being noticed by Imperials hunting for you; so much for wise old Obi-Wan.

We also learn Leia is suddenly a tech genius which was never shown when the Millennium Falcon had its numerous issues and she later has no memory of Obi-Wan come a New Hope, figure that one out.

Then we get onto Reva, a character that tries to torture a child for information despite knowing this child has had no involvement with this underground as Reva had set up this kidnapping.

Then later it turns out Reva is working against Vader because he killed Jedi and younglings. So in order to enact out her revenge and get close to Vader she kills Jedi and younglings...???

Anyway Reva allegedly "redeems" herself in the last episode; saving a child by not deciding to go through with their murder because now attempted murder is suddenly an admiral trait and heroic now.

Also anyone notice how Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru hold their own against a very dangerous and skilled Inquisitor but can't fend off Stormtroopers that can't shoot for toffee. I was stunned considering it's only 6 years between this and A New Hope.

I will say there were flickers of potential like Vader brutalising Obi Wan and being such a vicious tyrant in a few scenes but at the same time he failed to finish off Reva which seemed really out of step with the character. Also the lightsaber battles felt forced and poorly blocked in each encounter Vader had with Obi-Wan. On top of that he flashback scenes making Hayden look like an old man pretending to be a younger man felt a bit sad to see really.

Qui Gon turning up at the end was great but why couldn't we have started with that and had Qui Gon training Obi Wan to be one with the living force as the overarching story and eventually coming to blows with Vader without the silly kidnapping angle.

Instead what we got was repeated remnants of Episode III with no further character development and more plots holes that further muddy up the lore.

Unfortunately this series fails to offer any new insights into the characters that we didn't previously know.

Its a very badly written tale that had characters acting against their own best interests and the plot was quite choppy at times but this all made sense when I looked at the calibre of the writers and their previous projects.

It's sad to see Star Wars failing on such a level that with each new Star Wars story brought to screen, it becomes more watered down and the prequels suddenly seem better in comparison.

This show is almost a slap in the face of the character Obi-Wan Kenobi. If you thought Kenobi had failed Anakin, then prepare yourself to see him fail as Luke's protector as well. But also prepare yourself to understand why Vader was right when he said in A New Hope "Your powers are weak old man". This Kenobi doesn't feel like a Jedi. He doesn't even act as a Jedi. And ten years since Revenge of the Sith he has really let himself go. You even get to understand, but at the same time be shocked, by the revelation as to why neither Luke or Leia were trained earlier as soon as they started to show signs of their Force abilities. Kenobi doesn't feel like a Jedi and the Inquisitors... Those definitely do not feel like anything. I honestly couldn't care less about Reva, or whatever is the axe she has to grind with Kenobi. If anything Reva serves no real purpose except to make Kenobi look bad at everything he does. There's nothing salvageable about this show. Nothing worth watching. No cameo appearance of Vader will save this disaster. If anything it will only ruin the lore and story of the original trilogy. If you have followed Star Wars from the beginning. If you have read or played most of the material. If you're a hardcore fan of Star Wars then the first thing you'll notice, if you don't let the hype blind you, is that this is not Star Wars. It may try to look like it, it may use the same names, but it's definitely not Star Wars. And to think that Disney/Lucasfilm could fail so miserably with a character that has so much potential. Was I surprised that the show was not good? No. Was I surprised that the show was this bad? A little. Yes. This is something only for those that are just blind followers of the character, that don't care at all what they're being given as long as they're being given something. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Really just disappointing, the shows not really about Obi Wan but rather Leia and Reeva. The fight between Obi Wan and Vader was made up and Lucas wouldve never wrote that. Also what a wasted appearance by Liam Neeson could've been a meaningful scene instead of a pointless cameo... This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. 2 for great acting. But man the story does not make sense AT ALL. Leia, with her parents' status, got easily abducted? Ok fine. Rogue Jedi stops chasing Obiwan just because he closed the space shuttle's door in front of her face? OK maybe (even though she literally just jumped across so many roof tops)? But episode 3 is getting even worse... Obiwan simply surrenders to 3 storm troopers, even though he has just single handedly defeated more. Vader cannot cross a small line of like 20 feet long fire wall? And he cannot just walk around it? The laziness of writing the stories is simply heart breaking for an amazing actor and fans who had waited for so long. At least it is a good thing this did not get developed to a movie as originally planned. It would have been a bigger disaster. Expand

The graphics and visual side are quite OK.
The plot, however, is full of irritating issues. So many errors, so many facts contradicting even official Disney lore...

Disney once again uses a bait-and-switch to force a poorly written character down our throats.

If you think this show is about Obi-wan Kenobi, you'd be understandably mistaken. The "Ben" Kenobi we see in this show is akin to the "Luke" Skywalker from "The Last Jedi", an attempt to make other characters look good by bringing down the ones we know and love.

You keep failing Disney. You keep using the same tricks, and they keep failing.

Continuity and logic issues but that is minor to me. Bigger: The tired trope of males being weak dumb losers and females being smarter and better. A few cool looking scenes don't save it. Riva is yet another Mary Sue character. Sad.

Did Disney really think we are stupid?

The Series is full of stupid ideas, first that obi-wan is a compleet loser. He is a space monk, based on buddist monks and knights/paladins of fantasy genre. Why disney want every jedi to break to looser. They are monks, they are indoctrinated and even if they do not want to fight, they do not stop in there believe or training routine. Then the black woman controversy, that is make up by disney! Did disney really think they have a problem with a black woman in a show? No! They have problems with a character that gets more focus in her story, as the main protagonist. She is smarter is the hero, she is stronger as the hero, what make her the HERO. But that show is namend "Obi-wan Kenobi" not the "new character introduction Show".

Then all the stupid things, like the tollstation with the laser fance, laughtable because the writer is so stupid to add such a scene. Then the base infiltration, stolen out of a video game, the underwatertunnel is the same, stolen out of a video game. The exit from the base, a military base, everybody act like they never have ever heared of military routines. Like when the base alarm go on, everybody go on battle stations and the tie fighter start to patrole. No, they wander arround like chickens. But the worst of this series is, that they ruin not only obi-wan, they ruin darth vader to. Both act not like they would act after all the movies, series and book, and i don't even take on the "legend" material. Who they get mostly the best jedi ever trained "obi wan" and make him a looser, than he make his padawan who is now "darth vader" to an reatard. He is in a fire proven body armor and stops on the fire, he do not sent a squard of tiefighters and bombers to a base blockade... he even stops to kill his underling. He is not a guy who stops, he is full of anger, he can't really control if he is in rage and he will destroy everything in his path. he is a juggernaunt... he don't stop! But no disney make him a retard who gets braindeath... when something is not as he plan. Oh you have a tracker... braindeath, restart, let the woman go and say "good". Sorry disney, you don't understand starwars. Its a simple hero story, where the hero is the hero and the bad guy the bad guys. They make a smart and simple hero tale, to a mess like "lost", with stupid ideas.

Now Moses Ingram is not a good actor being angry is not a role and it's not racist whats racist is shrinking John Boyega for china and making him look like a clown instead of making his character compelling to watch now us calling out **** acting has nothing to do with skin color Disney is trying to weaponize fake racism to block criticism is a big red flag to how **** the show is Star Wars is officially dead the only good thing left is the original 6 movies and the videogames

Where to start easily one of my favourite characters and actors has been misfired straight in a whale sized dissapointment of one of my most anticipated series ever.

The show has been curated for children in what I and another's describe as a nickelodeon show. Lots of the show several scenes now involves the cringest chase scenes of a small 7 year old girl out running fully grown men through a forest then followed by a city. I realised this show was for children when disney introduced another "adorable droid" which made me realise that disneys fore front mind was monetisation they can sell toys of the droid. It seems disneys made agenda is to squeeze dollars however and wherever possible and making a good tense, thrilling series an afterthought. They've even introduced non cannon characters also as a villian, reeva a sith inquisitor who happens to be black into the show. I have no problem with black actors and actresses as i hope we get a mace windu series and lando, big fan of Carl weather's also in mando but this acting is horrendous and she shouts much of her way through the series. Honestly the tone is much to light for a dark time where jedi are being hunted down and murdered on the spot without trial in summary execution much like the gestapo did with the Jews. Disney have really wronged the fans here massively and the obi wan character for what was a show much long in the pipeline. I feel like I can no longer deny it disney has political agenda here and clearly as woke as it comes.

I'm more than happy for disney to start doing series with female leads, people of diverse backgrounds in original story's or characters already known. But its a obi wan show make it about him and respect that original star wars fans are not idiots and the show should be accessible for them. The reviews say it all and I'm not the only one.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It was just terrible and boring. Horribly writing. They don’t understand the force or Jedi. The entire story was obi wan running away. It just sucks how Disney doesn’t understand star wars at all. Beyond that, the directing and editing was just bad. The action and light saber fights sucked. The light saber fights were in pitch black to hide that fact that the sequences were lazy. I wouldn’t recommend. Expand
