I thought it was great, 7.5-8.0/10 based on the first three episodes, with room for improvement. Ignore the Metacritic trolls; the critics have this about right.

I was skeptical at first but the 3rd episode really won me over. Loving this peek at this part of the Skywalker saga timeline. Young Leia delivers many of her lines like a sassy young Carrie Fisher might. And I need to know more about the Third Sister!

I don’t agree with a lot of the criticism about the show. Sure the starts a little slow but it’s full of nostalgia and Ewan is great! Maybe the whole Leia rescue isn’t the most captivating story, but I doubt the show is going to revolve around that. There will be more planets and more action. I’m confident there will be plenty of surprises to come. Still plenty of time left.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Such a fantastic show so far. Between the story, the characters, the connections with other Star Wars media, the cameos, and the acting…Just Bravo. Little Leia is an absolutely amazing addition as is 3rd Sister Reva (Youngling from the order 66 scene anyone?) Episodes 2 and 3 kept me on the edge of my seat and the cliffhangers keep me craving more. Ewan is again fantastic as Kenobi as well as Hayden as both Anakin and Vader and it was so wonderful for James Earl Jones, Jimmy Smits, and Joel Edgerton to reprise their roles. I fully understand now why Ewan was genuinely afraid to act with Vader. Absolutely ruthless portrayal of Darth Vader at his prime that was more than due. I hadn’t been so scared of him since playing Fallen Order! Taking off a half star until Kenobi says "Hello there" Expand

Nice to see Disney finally acknowledging the prequel era a little bit. Don't get me wrong, this still takes place in that post-RotS, pre-A New Hope safe space that Kathleen Kennedy seems absolutely terrified to move away from, but at the same time it feels tailor-made for those who grew up with that overly-hated second trilogy. It's the Star Wars content I've been most looking forward toNice to see Disney finally acknowledging the prequel era a little bit. Don't get me wrong, this still takes place in that post-RotS, pre-A New Hope safe space that Kathleen Kennedy seems absolutely terrified to move away from, but at the same time it feels tailor-made for those who grew up with that overly-hated second trilogy. It's the Star Wars content I've been most looking forward to for some time now. My favorite character in this massive, media-spanning franchise has always been Obi-Wan, and given what a tiny part he had in the OT that is in no small part due to Ewan McGregor's performance. So getting to see him step back into that role, alongside other returning faces from those same movies, hit all the right nostalgic notes for me while also providing a story with some actual significance in the canon due to the way it shows how the legendary Jedi went from being the broken man we saw at the end of Episode III to the reinvigorated wise mentor who would lead Luke on the first steps of his journey in Episode IV.

So this isn't just dusting off a fan favorite for a quick good time Solo-style, but actually provides the last essential piece of history for one of the franchise's most important personas. Kenobi's entire arc here sees him forced to face the demons of his past in a struggle that's as much internal as it is external. A conflict that ultimately allows him to rediscover a sense of peace, understanding, and his faith. It carries profound themes of self-forgiveness (particularly if what happened wasn't truly your fault), letting go of trauma, and forging a new, healthier path. I hear a lot of people complaining about Third Sister Reva, but while it may be a bit redundant her inclusion really helps to hammer that message home even further.

All the underlying depth of its subtext wouldn't mean much however if the miniseries wasn't fun to watch. Luckily the core dynamic between the titular hero and the child-aged version of a very familiar princess is absolutely charming, and there were still plenty of tense moments that had my heart skipping a beat despite the fact that its prequel nature meant I knew who was in real danger or not. This period in the saga is also excellently brought to life with an appropriate tone of hopelessness and desperation similar to Rogue One as the good people in the galaxy far, far away are forced into hiding or subjugation to survive being hunted.

By far the greatest source of excitement though has got to be Darth Vader. It's been touted across countless films, shows, and literature how those under the Empire's rule lived in complete terror of his immense power, but this is the first piece of the fiction I've come across that's allowed us to see it for ourselves. The Sith lord is simply terrifying here, performing feats straight out of The Force Unleashed video game. Something made all the sweeter thanks to the unfairly treated Hayden Christensen coming back to don the iconic helmet. The action is of a grittier nature than we typically get from the brand as well, with lightsabers getting forsaken for some old fashioned fisticuffs and displays of the force that are more massive and bombastic than anything in any of the 9 films prior.

It's refreshing to receive a project that seems built from the ground up for the portion of the community that's been largely ignored since George Lucas sold the rights to his space opera baby. Especially since it provides the final vital chapter in the history of its protagonist. Those "fans" who have been upset about everything since the first two-thirds of Return of the Jedi are better off passing, as this serves as a continuation to a part of the saga they have no appreciation for anyways. Yet, for those of us who actually like Star Wars? There are a few minor niggles with things like characters inexplicably choosing to not wipe out certain threats or how apparently taking a laser sword to the gut isn't fatal anymore, but at long last we have been given the full picture of Obi-Wan's life, and that is worth celebrating.

The recent Disney+ shows have been pretty good - most notably The Mandalorian Season 2 - and this is right up there with the second season if not better. The sets, acting, and everything else is fantastic so far, and I hope it all continues for the next several episodes. The surprise casting/character of the season is great (again, don’t listen to the trolls who will find a reason to complain about everything), and brings heart to the series. I’m a big fan of Rogue One and when Star Wars take a little more realistic, grown up approach, and if you’re like this. And if you are a fan of the prequels, or just have nostalgia for them, then you’ll love this, because it appears this series will do those characters right.

The actress playing Leia is adorable and completely embodies the attitude of a 10yo space princess!! True fans and casual fans alike will love this show. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After the third episode I can happily say that I am currently loving this series, the acting so far from Ewan is outstanding and finally getting to see Vader in his true form was fantastic, the slight horror-like episode done wonders showing the true fear that people had for Vader. Little Leia is hilarious and adorable at the same time with incredible acting and great lines. The inquisitors parts at the moment are the only real issue I have, the acting itself is great, it’s just at a lore point, some of their actions don’t feel true to their character but nothing that truly ruins anything. Reva herself is a character to be hated. But I feel like that’s the point, she isn’t meant to be a character to be loved as even the inquisitors don’t want to deal with her, Moses herself feels great, She brings a great dynamic to the show which leaves me wondering where her true intentions may actually lie. Only time will tell… the only real worry I have is that some plot holes are currently there which I’m hoping will end up sorting itself out by the end of the series. Over all, a fantastic watch and I’m exited for what the next few episodes will bring. Expand

I do not understand the backslash. In my opinion it is a good series so far. Explores human nature and emotions. It is a journey for Obi-Wan to find himself again. It is a different approach but why would it automatically be bad? I enjoy that slow burning narration and I am looking forward to new episodes.

Obi-Wan had a larger problem: It was dumb as a rock. Simple rules of spatial logic went out the window. Main characters kept almost killing each other, and then walking away long enough for their wounded opponent could recover.

McGregor is wholly up to the challenge of shouldering the emotional weight of this series, which feels less like a cynical cash grab (despite being that) than a natural continuation of the saga that Lucas crafted more than two decades ago.

Ewan McGregor was last seen as Obi-Wan, he brings more depth, more of a world-weary wisdom to the role. ... As is the case with many a “Star Wars” title, the dialogue sometimes borders on the corny, but director Deborah Chow (“The Mandalorian”) has a keen sense of pacing and a distinct visual style that holds our interest even in the quieter moments. “Obi-Wan Kenobi” is off to a roaring start.
