Absolutely Horrible. Nothing is canon anymore with disney star wars. Just expect that Disney and KK will do anything and everything to take a dump on the star wars you know and love. Enjoy.

Shockingly bad. Disney some how manages to further desecrate the Star Wars universe with each new tv series. The exception to that may be The Mandalorian. The child actor playing Leia flat out sucks and people thought Jake Lloyd was bad. The first two episodes are totally tone deaf and jarring. Someone mentioned this already, but it really is like watching a modern sitcom or a fanfic.

If the first two episodes are any indicator of the rest of this series, it's in trouble. After The Mandalorian and Fett, this feels like cutting room footage, stitched together just to fill in a gap from the prequels yo the original. Everything about them has been turned to **** I'm way more interested in everything else besides the Jedi. Seems like the galaxy needed the culling element of the Empire to set things straight. The prequels got us to hate a little boy, this got me to hate a little girl. There's just something cheezy about the whole thing. Like what's Obi-Wan's job? Butchery in the Desert? Why?! I'm not impressed. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Based on the opening two episodes, Disney continues to make hash of the original trilogy through needless 'gap-filling' supplements to the Skywalker saga. Here we have a decidedly unheroic Obi-Wan whose pessimism is largely attributed to his failure to save an apprentice he knew from the start was a potentially dangerous Force-wielder. So, for the second time, following Luke's childish abandonment of the Resistance in the Disney sequels, a noble figure from the original trilogy is laid low by dubious attempts to 'deepen' the character. Why couldn't Obi-Wan have been conflicted about his duty to Luke on some insignificant Outer Rim planet when he could have been helping the emerging Rebellion? But no, the show's creators went for an easy 'redemption' character arc that frustrates our expectations for no good reason.

What's worse is the story doesn't compel Obi-Wan to figure things out. During the initial kidnapping plot, sheer coincidence leads him to the brigands holding ten-year-old Leia. A child grifter approaches him and directs him to a supposed Jedi just because he looks lost. Then the fake Jedi tells Obi-Wan where to go when he could have just as easily lied. (Later on, coincidence assumes an even greater role when the fake Jedi helps Obi-Wan for reasons entirely unearned but necessary to force a climactic confrontation.) There's no detective work required of Obi-Wan, just walking around, waiting for others to tell him what to do next.

In terms of acting, while Ewan McGregor gives a creditable, though not especially nuanced performance, the dialogue doesn't do him any favors as characters routinely speak in rote, comic book shorthand, simply announcing their feelings and motives. The rest of the cast seems game but out of their depth, particularly Moses Ingraham and the other paper-thin Inquisitors and the hapless tyke playing a precocious and wholly unlikeable version of Leia.

Not even the action and effects can save this show from the 'barely watchable' category. In the first two episodes alone we're treated to not one but two chase scenes in which the aforementioned ten-year-old outruns grown-ups who should've scooped her up in seconds. The Jedi defending the Padawans in the prologue doesn't need more than a single stroke to cut down any of her foes. The Inquisitors lose their initial prey because he Force-lowers a bit of awning. Obi-Wan exchanges blaster fire across rooftops in the most boring fashion imaginable. There's virtually no suspense or tension to any of it.

One additional annoyance is that the show seems intent on introducing new contradictions to the Skywalker saga. How is it a third-rate Inquisitor is able to determine Obi-Wan's association with Bail Organa and infer Leia's importance by simply reviewing Imperial records? If that's the case, why isn't Bail Organa and by extension, Obi-Wan, hounded by the Inquisitors and/or Darth Vader up until the beginning of Ep. 4? Why doesn't Leia ever mention to Luke that she had an adventure with Obi-Wan when she was a child? You'd think something like that would have been a comfort when Luke was grieving over his mentor's death. Why is Darth Vader's identity as Anakin Skywalker known to low-level Inquisitors when it's apparently unknown to the Rebel Alliance at the beginning of Ep. 4, including Bail Organa, who actually knew Anakin before his heel turn? Rumors like that don't travel as far as Alderaan?

The sad fact is that what the franchise lost in the transition to Disney is the understanding that these characters are archetypes in the same sense as figures from mythology. Not that they can't be complex, but in the main, they should act from a consistent set of well-defined principles. The Mandolorian hinted at a return to this understanding with its early Sergio Leone-style western episodes but ultimately it, too, got mired in the wrongheaded decision to revisit elements of the original Skywalker saga that don't require or even deserve explanation. Knowing what to leave out of a story is as important as knowing what to put in. Disney seems to have forgotten that principle.

Boring, dull and lifeless. Every performance is low energy and flat. All the shots are static two shots with a little push in to try and have some kind of movement. The story is dumb and lacks tension. Most of the run time is eaten up with long travel shots. If your a Star Wars fan I'm sure this is okay but it won't bring back old fans or bring in new ones.

It gets a couple of points for Ewan's acting and commitment to the role, but the show itself is shallow, lazy and looks cheap. There's nothing fresh or interesting here. Instead of weird and imaginative (two elements that made Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back the stuff of legends), Kenobi plays it safe with nostalgia and formula - even reusing the child/protector trope from The Mandolorian!

Every other part, to include the overly aggressive, overacting 3rd Sister, and her inquisitors turn it into a cartoon of a show. The 3rd Sister actress seems very green. Her scenes just don't feel polished and her acting seems lower than most of the others. This applies to several background or second tier characters as well though. The child actor for Leia is also not great and this entire series arc feels unnecessary to me. Overall after three episodes, I'm not interested in this series at all. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I had so much hope for this show since obi Wan has been my favorite character since I was a child. Unfortunately it proved to be just another attempt by Disney to break down a well loved character. The man took down two sith apprentices plus grievous but somehow is a shambling mess when faced with a new strong female villain. The villain herself wasn't the greatest actress but atleast she had more of the empire/sith mindset. Somehow the other inquisitors have a moral code when it comes to kidnapping children, when we all know the empire is evil and will stop at nothing to finish off the jedi even if it means destroying entire planets. The chase scene in the second episode felt like I was watching a power rangers episode.it was plain to see her tiny legs couldn't run so how do the writers make up for it? "Oh just have them wave their arms around and run into objects they could clearly see in advance". I know it was a chase involving a six year old Leia but this is where good writing can save you. It just feels like Disney doesn't understand star wars or its characters mentalities or even cares to. It shows with the sequels and is now showing again with Kenobi. The Mandolorian was such a breathe of fresh air. Unfortunately this show is like getting sucked back under the waves Expand

So. We have a show from the company most famous from publicly thanking the owners of Uyghur concentration camps for letting them shoot footage near those very camps.

The show has Ewan McGregor playing some lowlife blaster jockey who certainly is not Obi-Wan Kenobi, which is a bit strange for Ewan McGregor to do in a series titled "Obi-Wan Kenobi".

The show also has a big guy in Black Helmet who, after killing some bystanders, surprisingly turns out not to be Darth Vader, just some idiot who wears the costume and speaks menacingly.

It has 3 stooges implied to be Sith Inquisitors which is funny since obviously none of them is a Sith, even if the Type B of Power seems to have inclinations. She might one day become a Sith if only she manages to make a facial expression other than that of annoyed constipation. I guess another bit of canon went out the window and suddenly the evil, supremacist Sith Empire is no longer racist :D

The show also has the fastest 10yo in the universe, whose waddling is faster than the run of 3 professional bounty hunters and of a guy called, by other characters in the show, a Jedi. The 10yo has mental capacity of a stunned bull in the slaughterhouse, behaving like a complete idiot (on 10yo scale, no one sane expects a 10yo child to give psychoanalytic speeches or jump from a roof and blame someone else for it). The show seems to suggest that this lump of idiocy somehow will grow into the smart, resourceful and charming princess Leia.

The score is mostly due to the title which made me expect a Star Wars show. Otherwise I'd keep a point or two for CGI and music.

Star Wars was done when Disney bought the rights from George Lucas. We didn't know it then but it's clear now and becomes clearer with each passing terrible show, film, comic or novel that Disney spews out. Obi-Wan is just another example in the increasingly long list of failures. Not even the presence of Ewan McGregor can save it. If you are a true Star Wars fan, avoid!

The Special effects (and choreography) aren't that special - it feels a little better than what you might see on Doctor Who. I'm honestly thinking of giving up my Disney subscription. I was hoping that the Book of Bobba was just an aberration. Since this is based on the first three episodes, I'll revise if needed. (Update - I actually felt like laughing watching the big Vader / Obiwan encounter - it was that underwhelming - Obiwan ran just about as clumsily as Leia, Vader was presented in a weird way - weak, inconsistent with how he's been portrayed in the past). Why can't they get directors that are passionately committed to the material. Disney's goal in life is to troll the fans who've been with the franchise the longest.

Nobody cares about kid Leia, nobody cares about a show centered around Obi-wan Kenobi, when according to Lucas "canon" he just sat around on Tatooine till they built the first death star! I mean its all well and good to "try" to make a decent show around a solid character, but its already been done and better (only animated or in books).

Extended universe had millions of potential stories for the Disney exec's to mercilessly steal- er.. I mean "borrow" from and they still ignored it. They are desperate for a hit. You can smell the blood in the water at Disney. Its so bad people wonder if they're aren't plants from other film companies approving all of these terrible ideas. I'd call those people crazy, but the truth was always stranger than fiction.

Let Star Wars go. I still have the original trilogy and some of the other licensed stuff, those were all pretty good, and I have a lot of happy memories with those things. Whatever monster they've created, I sometimes wonder if Lucas isn't laughing about it as we speak.

To start, Ingrams character is not interesting, not believable and terribly over-acted. In hard contrast, the second sister from the Jedi:Fallen Order was also a powerful woman of color but her char was an awesome design, dark brooding and believable. Sith are famous for their iconic over-the top designs and you have the three inquisitors, a crazy bald sharp-tooth sinister grand-inquisitor, some kind of crazy glowing-eyed sci-fi samaurai and the third sister .. looks like they literally just pulled someone off the street and put a black leather top on them. Like give her some eye shadow or some eye effects or something to make her look like an actual sith and not just a pretender. Then when they try to make her look cool they are like doing over the top unnecessary jumps that make her look more like a carnival performer than a sith.

Secondly we have Leias char, played by a 9 year old pretending to be a 10 year old who looks like a 6 year old. Children are classically annoying in film as they are not as experienced as their older counterparts, which is why they are most often portrayed by older actors. She's just not interesting or believable. Sure she's cute and that is fine for a minor role as a cute little girl, not as a lead trying to carry the show. So far there is no reason I can see why they couldent have jumped ahead 15 years instead of 10 and shown Leia as a cool teenager played by more mature actor with talent to carry the show and able to maintain a more brooding tone to keep with the rest of the show.

Then you look at the whole show, it doesn't know what its trying to do. Its got dark brooding adult elements, it turns into a silly comedy at times, and during Leias scenes it becomes like a lighthearted children's show. Its trying to do too many things at once and has no clear underlying element to hold it all together.

McGregors scenes are well done and exactly what I expected. If they gave him more development and focused on him IN HIS OWN SHOW while only briefly showing these no-name actors, the show could have been great. It still has potential hypothetically if the untalented no name actors take a backseat and let Obi have his show. Unfortunately it is unlikely the whole direction will take a hard turn for the last 2/3. Somehow I doubt that Ice Cube is going to come in and focus the show.

One of the best things to come from The Prequels and Clone Wars. But instead we got a chance to see Jake Skywalker, I mean Obi-Wan, get a character assassination from the ideologs employed by Kathleen Kennedy.
Oh and of course the plot ignores Luke. Can't have a male future savior of The Glalaxy!!!!!
The sooner Disney cleans house and root out this rot the better. I've canceled my Disney+ subscription as clearly only The Woke should watch their content. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The first episode was fine. It was slow, but it was showing the drudgery of Obi-Wan's life now. The flashes of Luke were nice, and I liked Leia (minus the ridiculous chase scene).
They tied to establish Reva early as the most ruthless, driven, and cleverest of The Inquisitors. They did this with horrid writing, no consistency, and exceedingly poor acting. Petulance and a resting **** face does not convey the menace that the writers and Moses Ingram seem to think it does.
The second episode was horrendous. Full of plot conveniences and "just becauses" that would embarrass the writers of The Rise of Skywalker.

The entire rescue was preposterous. The Leia chase scene in this one made the one in Ep 1 look like high cinema but lasted a full 10 minutes. We got Reva being petulant again and contradicting and defying her Sith (in all but name) commander and suffering no repercussions. Then we get Batman Reva observing the city from a rooftop with the RBF still firmly in place at the right place at precisely the right time to catch up to Leia and Obi, then a laughably bad force enabled parcor dash to intercept. She ends up extracting Kenobi's new location from a fake Jedi using her super, totally better than Kylo's, information extractor mind power in about five seconds (this powerful ability is why the Inquisitors tolerate her insubordination it is explained) So why did she not use it on Owen in Ep 1? Kenobi was literally 20 feet away.
She is confronted again by the Grand Inquisitor, the same character that appears in the Show "Star Wars Rebels" as the main antagonist set four or five years after these events (Star Wars Canon), but he cops an attitude so Reva runs him through.
Anyway, Reva finds Kenobi. She dialogs that Vader is alive, and therefore Anakin is alive. I won't judge this as harshly as others. I know Vader killed anyone that knew this secret, but maybe she saw him in the temple during Order 66, we'll see. If that is not how she knows, yea this is horrible and completely breaks the lore.
Ewan's reaction to this news is the best moment of acting in this show by a country mile. This was a very good moment.
Surprise to no one, Leia and Kenobi manage to escape again and Reva is left on the platform hurling threats at the departing ship and throwing a hissy fit with the RBF still firmly in place.

Anakin is my favorite character and Obi_Wan is not far behind, so despite many, many Disney Star Wars misgivings, I was excited about "Obi-Wan Kenobi". I hope it gets better, but I got a bad feeling about this.

Much has already been written about the writing and directing, which can alternate between adequate and surprisingly poor. And, to be sure, a good amount of that criticism is warranted. This series may well leave you wondering how a limited run title with this much legacy, fan support and budget could come out feeling so undercooked. Yes, some of the plot points and dialog are weak. Yes, some of the action sequences and editing choices are puzzling bordering on laughable. Yes, some of the special effects look like they never received their finishing touches. All of that is on display, but the worst offense in the series "Obi-Wan Kenobi" is how it handles its namesake.

In this series, the venerable Jedi is now a deeply fearful man, consumed with regret, who has lost seemingly all of the calm dedication and martial prowess that was his hallmark for literally every other film and television series featuring him up to this point. The knight who unflinchingly stood against Sith Lords, bounty hunters, literal armies of opposition and Darth Vader himself, is now seemingly incapable of anything more than trading some blaster fire and running for his life in between panic attacks.

We are supposed to understand that in the 10 years since his last film appearance, Obi-Wan has cut of all connection to the Force, ceased any form of training and has simply been hiding out -- thus, we are to believe, his jarring ineffectiveness. He even tells a potential ally that all hope is lost; that they should lay low in perpetuity, effectively doing nothing to help anyone. But this character re-write doesn't actually work when we consider that A) Kenobi's mission - which he has been quietly awaiting - is to train a young Luke Skywalker as a Jedi B) he, Kenobi, has been given additional skills to hone from Master Yoda in preparation for the years ahead and C) such a meek surrender to tyranny and evil goes against everything we've known about the character for roughly 40 years now. It's an ill-conceived cop out from the writing room that just doesn't convince.

By the third episode, when the former Jedi is called upon to summon at least a glimpse of the skill and valor that he demonstrated so routinely years before, there is almost nothing there. It's not so much a decline as it is a complete re-fashioning of the character for the sake of villain fan service.

    What a waste. (Subscription cancelled).

The story from the beginning of the show does not center around Kenobi but a new character Reva and young Princess Leia. Reva is not a convincing villain and considering the opening will most like be a redeemed villain by the seasons end. The writing is not very good as the powers given to Reva is not consistent. At one point she reads the mind of a fake jedi to find Kenobi yet early on in the show she could have read the mind of Owen Lars and would have found Kenobi about 10 feet away. The chase scene with little Princess Leia is something you would get out of a Benny Hill episode in the 70's. In fact, speed it up a little put Benny Hill music to it and you will laugh. Not to mention her as an actor claiming to be the first POC to be represented in the franchise is a complete insult to Billy Dee Williams and Donald Glover. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Like most fans, “Obi Wan Kenobi the series” was the most awaited show Disney had in production. The wealth of available villains and possible plot lines the producers had to work with was endless. There was no way this could be bad. They had Ewan McGregor, eventually got Hayden as well! After the trailer dropped I was so excited. So they are going full on Vader/Inqisitors! Great! Watched the first episode and it was fine really. They are setting up a redemption arc for Kenobi. He’s lost his edge and is out of touch with the force. Fine. Makes sense.
Leia storyline is introduced… okay, I kinda like it! This will be cool! Girl seems closer to 7 years old than 10, but okay. Honestly don’t mind the girl actor, she’s fine and emotes some of that Leia cockiness. First sign of trouble I see in the show is when “Flea” shows up as a heavy and he is just awful. The ensuing foot chase is badly choreographed and filmed. The “Pirate” actors clearly pause and stop at various moments to make sure they don’t catch up to the child actor. It’s just bad. Ok… I’ll forgive that if the show just keeps getting better.
City chase scene is better and events that occur here are good. Kenobi is tasked with not using the force or reveal his location so makes sense. The Reva parkour didn’t bother me. Thought is was cool. The Inquisitors meet at some point and there is trouble in the ranks and a challenge is imminent. Fine. Grand inquisitor is cool and genuinely menacing, the Asian inquisitor and Reva are borderline for me. One is over the top “evil” and growls all his lines, and Reva just seems to get angry, yell, and then lash out. She does it every single appearance in the show through 2 episodes. No nuance to the character for how much focus is on her.
Anyways, Kenobi is forced to use the force to save Leia and it feels like a BIG moment and I’m excited. This is it. His awakening! Nope. Next scene he is just magically at street level with Leia. Even my wife, who was just watching because I was watching it, said, “how did he get down there so fast?” Not a big deal, but why not show a scene of Kenobi force leaping off the building. Would have been cool. I’m still not complaining though.
Skip to scene where Kenobi and Reva arrive at the cargo hangar nearly simultaneously. Kenobi struggles with revealing himself at first but we are going to see our first saber battle! It’s the perfect set up. Reva would make a perfect first challenger for Kenobi. She is brash and overconfident. Kenobi will easily thrash her and at the last moment the other inquisitors rush in and save her. Kenobi and Leia escape and Leia is completely in awe of Kenobi and fully trusts him now. The Inquisitors rush to their ship to give chase but lose the cargo ship as it jumps to light speed. The episode ends with the inquisitors radioing the fleet that they need that ships coordinates!

Except nothing in that last paragraph actually happens. Here is what does and it’s where the show starts worrying me for real. Reva comes in the hangar, senses Kenobi is there, and starts taunting him. Kenobi hides. Why? It’s just him and her at that point. He has been discovered. He knows it. Everyone knows he’s here. But ok, whatever. I wanted a fight but obviously the writers really want to drive home that Kenobi is broken and afraid, even though they had already set up a big moment with music and fanfare when he saved Leia with the force.

Reva taunts Kenobi more and reveals Anakin is alive and he is Darth Vader. Kenobi cowers and is shaken. That’s fine and believable. It would have been far more impactful in the scene had Kenobi started fighting Reva, had her on the ropes, and THEN she reveals it. Kenobi reels and loses focus and narrowly escapes Reva. Would have been so cool. Instead Reva just stabs the Inquisitor and kills him (confirmed, he’s dead). I guess this messes with canon continuity, but honestly. I don’t care about that stuff if improves the story. They can always retcon that later. Problem is it was a weird moment and lacked the impact the writers thought it would.

The 3rd episode is a disaster with the exception of one scene where Leia asked Kenobi what the force feels like. His explanation of turning the lights on when scared in a dark room is BEAUTIFUL and poetic! Amazing writing there. Seriously. Great moment.

The rest of the episode is a series of head scratchers and “omg why” moments. First, there are several moments where the director assumed the audience were idiots. 1. The cargo ship escapes, no pursuit? 2. The stormtrooper checkpoint. No Jedi mind trick? Walk around laser barrier? 3. Vader and fuel spill, Kenobi escape. Vader just used force to extinguish fire a second earlier, but now he can’t? And again, just walk around it!
It’s not nitpicking when these issues are so glaring. I’m out of space here, so in summary, Kenobi appears to be a MONUMENTAL wasted opportunity!

Easily the worst TV show of 2022. I cannot believe that this show cost $15 Million per episode. It looks awful. Terrible story, annoying characters and almost no classic John Williams music. Its almost unwatchable. I hope they burn all copies of this disaster so that future Star Wars fans will never know it ever existed...

Ewan is still fantastic in this role. All of the actors are fairly good, doing what they can with what they’re given. The story and scene construction is very poor. Fortunately, the show is the type of bad that lends itself to memes. I can’t really recommend this show, but I have somewhat enjoyed its constant, unintentional stupidity. It felt totally out of character for Obi Wan, Vader, etc. to act in some of the ways they did in this series. It really felt like any time any character did anything, I had to sit there and question why on earth they'd do that. And that doesn't make for a fun watch. The cinematography, production and choreography was lazy, and the show dragged like crazy. It's a huge shame because I was so excited for this series, I really did want to love it, as a huge Star Wars fan. But this series was just disappointment after disappointment. Except for Ewan and Hayden; their acting was awesome, as always! Expand

So let me get this straight. A 10 year old gets kidnapped and taken off of her planet and she tells her captors that she isnt scared of them. Right. So believable. And worse still, apparently this 10 year old is smarter than Obi Wan Kenobi. What a stupid show. Shame on the stupid morons who made this joke of a show.

Cringe dialogue, plot holes everywhere, and unlikable characters all make this a chore to watch. It had a few fun scenes, but they were few and far between.

Obi-Wan had a larger problem: It was dumb as a rock. Simple rules of spatial logic went out the window. Main characters kept almost killing each other, and then walking away long enough for their wounded opponent could recover.

McGregor is wholly up to the challenge of shouldering the emotional weight of this series, which feels less like a cynical cash grab (despite being that) than a natural continuation of the saga that Lucas crafted more than two decades ago.

Ewan McGregor was last seen as Obi-Wan, he brings more depth, more of a world-weary wisdom to the role. ... As is the case with many a “Star Wars” title, the dialogue sometimes borders on the corny, but director Deborah Chow (“The Mandalorian”) has a keen sense of pacing and a distinct visual style that holds our interest even in the quieter moments. “Obi-Wan Kenobi” is off to a roaring start.
