Has good moments, but not a good compliment to A New Hope, Revenge of the Sith or the established character of Obi-Wan Kenobi.

This series is actually good, but it annoys me:
    - Precocious Leia. She's 10 and acting like she's 30. - Reva is even worse than Jar Jar Binks. He's annoying with his noises and Reva with her behavior. If you want a strong woman, then she should be like Sarah Connor or Ripley. But please not so unbearable. - Poorly staged scenes (Leia is captured) and the duel

Ewan McGregor is the only one who keeps me glued to the series. The big bright spot of the series.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Very average. It's as if Disney have combined the poor dialogue from the prequels with the character deconstruction from the sequels. Kenobi is a complete defeatist and, at points, craven. The kenobi-Leia adventure piqued my interest, but left me disappointed as it mostly consists of the innocent but clever/wise child motivating the jaded master trope. Frankly it's boring, although younger audiences may enjoy it.

I find the inquisotors distracting and think it could have benefited from a tighter focus on kenobi and Vader as these scenes are pretty good. The action however is terrible, and the acting is generally quite poor. Although this could be due to direction rather than actors. Third sister is particularly bad but agin this could be a result of the dialogue and direction.

Overall, some interesting ideas and cool moments of nostalgia, but I think we all know this show should never have been made and luckily for you, if you never watch it, you won't have missed anything. If you do watch it, just remember it's for kids and doesn't actually change the experience of watching the original 6 movies.

I think that the series is not writen for the character Obi-Wan, the series is writen for the new character Reva in an Obi-Wan series. Everything outside of Obi-Wans scenes is boring and has a lack of character continuity. The show is not a disaster, but It feels deflating to watch this series.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I will watch the rest of the series just to see how it plays out, but it's definitely a flawed show. The Leia/Obi storyline is weak, and the chase scenes are shambolic. It relies on implausible character responses (Obi-wan's surrender to three stormtroopers after just beating four). It's not all bad, Ewan McGregor is good and Darth Vader seems plausible. Expand

It's just about OK, but there are so many stupid bits, I don't understand the intelligence of reviewers raving about it. There is a scene where they come up against a lazer gate in the desert and instead of WALKING AROUND IT, they have to turn off the gate?! There are Benny Hill style action scenes. Over promise and under deliver. Thanks Disney (yet again). The slow merciless destruction of this franchise continues at the hands of the creative abyss that is the Disney accounting department.

So much fail. The plucky young Leia is somehow able to outrun grown villains through a forest. There's a suggestion of a fugitive Jedi public hanging that it turns out is not a hanging at all. Obi-wan embarks on an annoying mission to recover Leia. More Jimmy Smits than is really necessary.

Disney absolutely refuses to take any risks that could lead to offending families and special interest groups alike. And yet, here we are...Metacritic user reviews stabilizing around 5.5, buoyed by some troll farms I suspect.

Ewan McGregor is the only redeeming asset here along with the (so far) underutilized Joel Edgerton. Unless it's Favreau (Mandalorian) at the helm, you're gonna have a bad time.

Two of the main characters in this show are downright annoying and cheesy: Leah and Reva. Leah is one of the most annoying child characters I've seen in a movie. Reva is just plain cheesy, especially the matrix-like scene where she's jumping from building to building. Also, Reva's dialogue and acting feel so forced. I just can't take her seriously. Very disappointed by the first two episodes. The Leia story feels odd and really didn't want to see Obi-Wan looking for her, but going on a more philosophical quest. CGI has a kind of prequel vibe, and some scenes were as clunky as pointless. Ewan McGregor is awesome, though, and I hope Vader's involvement saves the rest of the episodes.

It works when Ewan or Joel Edgerton are onscreen. They have gravitas despite the script and direction. But this is another series that people would be far more critical of if not set in the Star Wars universe.
The supporting actors are mostly terrible and so 2 dimensional I imagine they couldn't do profile shots for fear they'd just disappear offscreen.
The extras are clearly people who were instantly hired when asked the question 'have you ever acted before, and do you know how a normal person reacts when afraid or in danger' and they answered 'no'.
To avoid spoilers, there's a scene where a small, what appears to be bow legged character is confronted by some 'bad guys' and those 'bad guys' should've been able to apprehend the small character in 3 easy steps... but instead, we have to watch them do the 'run really slow... but PRETEND you're trying to run fast' maneuver.
    It's laughable.
    Except it's cryable, if that's a thing.
The trailers have fooled us again, and our nostalgic hearts and love for the original trilogy will try to make us convince ourselves this isn't awful. But it is. Search your feelings... you know it to be true.
I just don't get why a company with so much money can't make a tv series that feels and looks as filmic or expensive as other, much better and cheaper series feel and look.
Mickey and Kathleen need an intervention, ASAP.

The show is mostly a disapointment. It has bad writing, some continuity errors and inconsistencies. For example Obi Wan is sometimes a weak coward and other times a badass that is an unstoppable force. Before the bigot, misogyny or homophobia accusation is used: No one has anything against gay, trans, black or diverse characters and this was also the case 20 years ago. Just as reminder:The show is mostly a disapointment. It has bad writing, some continuity errors and inconsistencies. Before the bigot, misogyny or homophobia accusation is used: No one has anything against gay, trans, black or diverse characters and this was also the case 20 years ago. Just as reminder: Remember anyone criticizing Moff Gideon, Cere Junda (Fallen Order), Lando Calrissian, Mace Windu or Dr. Aphra (comics)? No, because they are awesome characters and we want them to return in new stories. Instead we dislike boring or one dimensional characters, weak stories and misuse of characters we grew up and liked for years. Sadly Obi Wan has a lot of weaknesses. It does also not help that you know the outcomes. They cant kill or seriously harm a character that appears later in the movies. The main example is the final episode and the climax battles where no one could die. Just a few additional examples. In one a familiar character is threaten with death by light saber and there is an interrogation with seemingly dire consequences. Both fail because you know no one could die. Another example: The Grand Inquisitor has an awesome arc in Rebels which happens chronologically after the events of this show and I say they give the character redemption there so you can see the outcome from a mile away. Continuity wise there are a few problems too: The knowledge that Darth Vader was Anakin Skywalker is a huge secret only a few know and anyone who talks about it will die swiftly. He even killed his own squad when a fugitive Jedi spoiled this to them if I remember correctly. Also a certain Imperial base that is majorly important has no defense mechanisms. The general story feels often like doing check marks on a to do list. Insert Darth Vader here, a familiar character there, show the base from Fallen Order, tease this and that. When you look behind this attempt to bait nostalgia it is a weak show. Only episode 5 is anywhere near the quality you need and even it is sometimes silly and unbelievable. The final has some great moments that feel like Star Wars and I freely admit this. Then there are plot holes like my prime example: Entering a hugely protected secretive base without any reason to be there as subtle as a jack hammer (Making suspicious radio messages near other imperials), escaping while hundred of armed soldiers aim at you at an important base without defense weapons nor star fighters or changes of characters decisions because of a small dialogues that should not work (Roken helping Obi Wan). Also no one during the show notice Obi Wans face even when he is on the top wanted list and actively searched when he reappears or later that he hides a child under his imperial uniforms cloak and hundred of people fail to notice. Lets end this point here. I don't blame the actors for a weak script and misuse of the characters. I even enjoyed Reva especially after they get character development towards the end but they weaken her before with bad writing and predictability. I knew / predicted her backstory immediately. Also name something that defines her character outside her hate and obsession before the last 2 episodes. As example for the poor writing: Reva forgot that her light saber can open a blast door in seconds until it is needed storywise or that a dozen or more stormtroppers are in hearing distance when she talks to Obi Wan things that could harm her badly. This level of writing makes her look incompetent. Now imagine how her backstory and development would be handled by a more competed writer. She would be a fan and critic favorite. Maybe the show was too long in development struggles as it should be a movie, was rumored to be canceled and more. So I will not criticize anything further in this regard. Then there are moronic decisions by the characters like being unable to use the Imperial resources when necessary (reinforcement, ships, surveillance etc.), no one figures out guarding a dangerous prisoner with just 4 stormtroopers is moronic or sending an undecoded message that contains all information to be crucified if it gets in the wrong hands. Then there are the abrupt character competences changes like Obi Wan not being able to use the force without reasons (other than the script) but later going one man (Jedi) army. Darth Vader is later also affected by this and forgets he has his ship in orbit. The special effects are good as expected as are the fights (except an early one which breaks Obi Wan). Overall this was a disappointment and is not recommend for fans of Star Wars. Mandalorian shows how to do Star Wars right and outclasses this show on any level. The warning signs were there as they fired the “If you dislike this you are xxx” (Insert racist, misogynist or others) even before the first episode started. Expand

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to have been handled very well. Ewan Mcgreggor seems to have forgotten how to Obi-Wan, delivering a dry and serious performance, Moses Ingrams 2 dimensional character was just terrible with no depth and badly acted, weird things like why the main characters couldn't just walk around something, to the show creating problems for itself with Leia and Obi-Wan apparently knowing him and then not even caring about his death in the original movies. And when was he able to control that much force?

But there were positives. It was great to see Hayden Christianson return as Vader, and seeing more vader in general is always a good thing. The Leia actress was also great, although she seemed very young for 10. I also enjoyed more background on the Lars family.

I think with a second season it could answer a few of these questions and raise the bar a little. But this wasn't a great first season. I keep my fingers firmly crossed for more as I would like this to be a success.

Chases scenes feel off again, same as in BoBF with the scooters. Leia running away and adults seem to purposefully stop or change route to not get to her. Doesn't seem that they toy with her. Reva parkouring on the roofs without getting anywhere or giving us any new information is also a weird choice. Scene was also too long. In my opinion it doesn't help the character. Pro: they got JEJ and Ewan to come back, lightsabers, cute little droid
con: lazy writing, lazy chase scenes, bad dialogue, laughable, non threatening villains, bad CGI

Wanted to like, but it comes off as a cheap(!) tv series from the 90s in the writing alone. The actors are all good, but young Leia is a bit too young to be 10 (appearance and speech). Talk to a 10 year old and see for yourself. She is however as good an actor as you can be for such a young child, I feel. Ewan is grand, as ever, and I rather though not superbly written, the antagonist (notWanted to like, but it comes off as a cheap(!) tv series from the 90s in the writing alone. As it is, it feels like they surf SW popularity and churn out whatever springs to mind. Expand

Obi-Wan is a painfully mediocre series. It exits and that’s about all you can say.

Obi-Wan had a larger problem: It was dumb as a rock. Simple rules of spatial logic went out the window. Main characters kept almost killing each other, and then walking away long enough for their wounded opponent could recover.

McGregor is wholly up to the challenge of shouldering the emotional weight of this series, which feels less like a cynical cash grab (despite being that) than a natural continuation of the saga that Lucas crafted more than two decades ago.

Ewan McGregor was last seen as Obi-Wan, he brings more depth, more of a world-weary wisdom to the role. ... As is the case with many a “Star Wars” title, the dialogue sometimes borders on the corny, but director Deborah Chow (“The Mandalorian”) has a keen sense of pacing and a distinct visual style that holds our interest even in the quieter moments. “Obi-Wan Kenobi” is off to a roaring start.
