I'm enjoying the show. It's difficult giving fans a show about things they have already pieced together in their minds, needing to fill in the blanks left from the long movie gaps. That's the main reason I wish they would move on from the skywalker line.

I really enjoy the this far. It shows you a broken man long after his glory. He’s lost everything, his eyes are on one goal. Yet gets pulled out of that roll for the possible better future.

Even though she's only 10, she seems to have some superpower that makes it really hard to chase her - even for grown up men that should run at least twice as fast as her lol. Leia kinda feels like that Disney aspect that they need to make the show appealing to audiences of all ages. Apart from that I have high hopes for this show to exceed Mando and Boba (which both disappointed me). Expand

A show like Kenobi is one to behold. The story starts off with a BANG, as we are rushed through the Jedi temple during Order 66 as a Jedi master attempts to guide a group of younglings to safety as Jedi are purged in the background. What an opening! We jump to seeing Kenobi on the planet Tattooine, a different man from who we have been shown before. More reserved, less likely to put himself at risk for others, that is until the reintroduction of Bail Organa. Bail Organa requests the help of Kenobi after his adopted daughter, Leia Organa, is kidnapped from her home. This embarks Kenobi on a dangerous mission that could possibly reveal his presence to The Empire, the antagonist government of the series, known for hunting down Jedi using their warriors known as The Inquisitor’s. Obi-wan’s presence is revealed, as he is hunted by Reva, a newly introduced inquisitor of the series. Put in charge by Darth Vader after the murder of the Grand Inquisitor, Reva sets out to hunt down Kenobi in order to gain what is rightfully hers through his capture. Darth Vader, a creature of the darkness fueled by his hatred of Kenobi, is hell bent on the capture and torture of Kenobi by using any means necessary. This leads to one of the most gruesome scenes in Star Wars history, to which I will not reveal. Episode 3 had so much quality action and character development, it accurately showed what the halfway point of a limited series should look and feel like.

The actors and actresses are absolutely phenomenal in their respective roles. The main cast is granted more and more time to shine as each episode goes by, and it has increased my interest in continuing this show. The show is not without its flaws, but the show does provide enough quality entertainment to where I can acknowledge and live with the flaws while still enjoying this show as it was originally intended. I highly recommend this show so far.

Blending stories about known and new characters well to be welcoming to new and old fans a like. Like anything it’s lacking in one or two places but that is easily made up with Ewans incredible acting and the emotion we get in the story. The things we never got to see in any of the movies or shows this far are here and anyone who’s played the games like I have get a fun time seeing things from said games that aren’t touched on anywhere else besides books and comics. Visuals are impressive as usual, with episodes getting away from desert planets and exploring new corners of the galaxy. Characters are well acted across the board, with the exception of some moments with the antagonists feeling forced and "on-the-nose" versus their cartoon versions in Rebels.

The cons of the show are minimal and easy to forgive. One chase scene in particular is laughable at moments but outside of that nothing to take you out of the experience. Don't let the toxic fandom make you believe this show is below average, it's great star wars that fans of all ages will enjoy.

Season a bit mistreated, because it starts very well, but then it gets lost in gags and quotes, which to define forced or useless is an understatement. It's always nice to find Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars universe, especially in a time period like that of imperial hegemony but the real question is: what was this show for? Still remains good.

So far, so good. With a production quality similar to previous Star Wars shows, Obi-Wan tells another story to fill the gaps between the Prequel and Original trilogy. While it doesn't offer anything particularly unique, it does tell a competent and engaging story...something not all Star Wars shows have succeeded at.

Very disappointed by the first two episodes. The Leia story feels odd and really didn't want to see Obi-Wan looking for her, but going on a more philosophical quest. CGI has a kind of prequel vibe, and some scenes were as clunky as pointless. Ewan McGregor is awesome, though, and I hope Vader's involvement saves the rest of the episodes.

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to have been handled very well. Ewan Mcgreggor seems to have forgotten how to Obi-Wan, delivering a dry and serious performance, Moses Ingrams 2 dimensional character was just terrible with no depth and badly acted, weird things like why the main characters couldn't just walk around something, to the show creating problems for itself with Leia and Obi-Wan apparently knowing him and then not even caring about his death in the original movies. And when was he able to control that much force?

But there were positives. It was great to see Hayden Christianson return as Vader, and seeing more vader in general is always a good thing. The Leia actress was also great, although she seemed very young for 10. I also enjoyed more background on the Lars family.

I think with a second season it could answer a few of these questions and raise the bar a little. But this wasn't a great first season. I keep my fingers firmly crossed for more as I would like this to be a success.

Chases scenes feel off again, same as in BoBF with the scooters. Leia running away and adults seem to purposefully stop or change route to not get to her. Doesn't seem that they toy with her. Reva parkouring on the roofs without getting anywhere or giving us any new information is also a weird choice. Scene was also too long. In my opinion it doesn't help the character. Not the fault of the actor, just weird choice leaving that in that way.

Still hyped enough for the next episodes. Hope they get to the quality of the Mandalorian.

Over promise and under deliver. Thanks Disney (yet again). The slow merciless destruction of this franchise continues at the hands of the creative abyss that is the Disney accounting department.

So much fail. The plucky young Leia is somehow able to outrun grown villains through a forest. There's a suggestion of a fugitive Jedi public hanging that it turns out is not a hanging at all. Obi-wan embarks on an annoying mission to recover Leia. More Jimmy Smits than is really necessary.

Disney absolutely refuses to take any risks that could lead to offending families and special interest groups alike. And yet, here we are...Metacritic user reviews stabilizing around 5.5, buoyed by some troll farms I suspect.

Ewan McGregor is the only redeeming asset here along with the (so far) underutilized Joel Edgerton. Unless it's Favreau (Mandalorian) at the helm, you're gonna have a bad time.

The show is mostly a disapointment. It has bad writing, some continuity errors and inconsistencies. For example Obi Wan is sometimes a weak coward and other times a badass that is an unstoppable force. Before the bigot, misogyny or homophobia accusation is used: No one has anything against gay, trans, black or diverse characters and this was also the case 20 years ago. Just as reminder:The show is mostly a disapointment. Just as reminder: Remember anyone criticizing Moff Gideon, Cere Junda (Fallen Order), Lando Calrissian, Mace Windu or Dr. Aphra (comics)? No, because they are awesome characters and we want them to return in new stories. Instead we dislike boring or one dimensional characters, weak stories and misuse of characters we grew up and liked for years. Sadly Obi Wan has a lot of weaknesses. It does also not help that you know the outcomes. They cant kill or seriously harm a character that appears later in the movies. The main example is the final episode and the climax battles where no one could die. Just a few additional examples. In one a familiar character is threaten with death by light saber and there is an interrogation with seemingly dire consequences. Both fail because you know no one could die. Another example: The Grand Inquisitor has an awesome arc in Rebels which happens chronologically after the events of this show and I say they give the character redemption there so you can see the outcome from a mile away. Continuity wise there are a few problems too: The knowledge that Darth Vader was Anakin Skywalker is a huge secret only a few know and anyone who talks about it will die swiftly. He even killed his own squad when a fugitive Jedi spoiled this to them if I remember correctly. Also a certain Imperial base that is majorly important has no defense mechanisms. The general story feels often like doing check marks on a to do list. Insert Darth Vader here, a familiar character there, show the base from Fallen Order, tease this and that. When you look behind this attempt to bait nostalgia it is a weak show. Only episode 5 is anywhere near the quality you need and even it is sometimes silly and unbelievable. The final has some great moments that feel like Star Wars and I freely admit this. Then there are plot holes like my prime example: Entering a hugely protected secretive base without any reason to be there as subtle as a jack hammer (Making suspicious radio messages near other imperials), escaping while hundred of armed soldiers aim at you at an important base without defense weapons nor star fighters or changes of characters decisions because of a small dialogues that should not work (Roken helping Obi Wan). Also no one during the show notice Obi Wans face even when he is on the top wanted list and actively searched when he reappears or later that he hides a child under his imperial uniforms cloak and hundred of people fail to notice. Lets end this point here. I don't blame the actors for a weak script and misuse of the characters. I even enjoyed Reva especially after they get character development towards the end but they weaken her before with bad writing and predictability. I knew / predicted her backstory immediately. Also name something that defines her character outside her hate and obsession before the last 2 episodes. As example for the poor writing: Reva forgot that her light saber can open a blast door in seconds until it is needed storywise or that a dozen or more stormtroppers are in hearing distance when she talks to Obi Wan things that could harm her badly. This level of writing makes her look incompetent. Now imagine how her backstory and development would be handled by a more competed writer. She would be a fan and critic favorite. Maybe the show was too long in development struggles as it should be a movie, was rumored to be canceled and more. So I will not criticize anything further in this regard. Then there are moronic decisions by the characters like being unable to use the Imperial resources when necessary (reinforcement, ships, surveillance etc.), no one figures out guarding a dangerous prisoner with just 4 stormtroopers is moronic or sending an undecoded message that contains all information to be crucified if it gets in the wrong hands. Then there are the abrupt character competences changes like Obi Wan not being able to use the force without reasons (other than the script) but later going one man (Jedi) army. Darth Vader is later also affected by this and forgets he has his ship in orbit. The special effects are good as expected as are the fights (except an early one which breaks Obi Wan). Overall this was a disappointment and is not recommend for fans of Star Wars. Mandalorian shows how to do Star Wars right and outclasses this show on any level. The warning signs were there as they fired the “If you dislike this you are xxx” (Insert racist, misogynist or others) even before the first episode started. Expand

Two of the main characters in this show are downright annoying and cheesy: Leah and Reva. Leah is one of the most annoying child characters I've seen in a movie. Reva is just plain cheesy, especially the matrix-like scene where she's jumping from building to building. Also, Reva's dialogue and acting feel so forced. I just can't take her seriously. It works when Ewan or Joel Edgerton are onscreen. They have gravitas despite the script and direction. But this is another series that people would be far more critical of if not set in the Star Wars universe.
The supporting actors are mostly terrible and so 2 dimensional I imagine they couldn't do profile shots for fear they'd just disappear offscreen.
The extras are clearly people who were instantly hired when asked the question 'have you ever acted before, and do you know how a normal person reacts when afraid or in danger' and they answered 'no'.
To avoid spoilers, there's a scene where a small, what appears to be bow legged character is confronted by some 'bad guys' and those 'bad guys' should've been able to apprehend the small character in 3 easy steps... but instead, we have to watch them do the 'run really slow... but PRETEND you're trying to run fast' maneuver.
    It's laughable.
    Except it's cryable, if that's a thing.
The trailers have fooled us again, and our nostalgic hearts and love for the original trilogy will try to make us convince ourselves this isn't awful. But it is. Search your feelings... you know it to be true.
I just don't get why a company with so much money can't make a tv series that feels and looks as filmic or expensive as other, much better and cheaper series feel and look.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Very average. It's as if Disney have combined the poor dialogue from the prequels with the character deconstruction from the sequels. Kenobi is a complete defeatist and, at points, craven. The kenobi-Leia adventure piqued my interest, but left me disappointed as it mostly consists of the innocent but clever/wise child motivating the jaded master trope. Frankly it's boring, although younger audiences may enjoy it.

I find the inquisotors distracting and think it could have benefited from a tighter focus on kenobi and Vader as these scenes are pretty good. The action however is terrible, and the acting is generally quite poor. Although this could be due to direction rather than actors. Third sister is particularly bad but agin this could be a result of the dialogue and direction.

Overall, some interesting ideas and cool moments of nostalgia, but I think we all know this show should never have been made and luckily for you, if you never watch it, you won't have missed anything. If you do watch it, just remember it's for kids and doesn't actually change the experience of watching the original 6 movies.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Like most fans, “Obi Wan Kenobi the series” was the most awaited show Disney had in production. The wealth of available villains and possible plot lines the producers had to work with was endless. There was no way this could be bad. They had Ewan McGregor, eventually got Hayden as well! After the trailer dropped I was so excited. So they are going full on Vader/Inqisitors! Great! Watched the first episode and it was fine really. They are setting up a redemption arc for Kenobi. He’s lost his edge and is out of touch with the force. Fine. Makes sense.
Leia storyline is introduced… okay, I kinda like it! This will be cool! Girl seems closer to 7 years old than 10, but okay. Honestly don’t mind the girl actor, she’s fine and emotes some of that Leia cockiness. First sign of trouble I see in the show is when “Flea” shows up as a heavy and he is just awful. The ensuing foot chase is badly choreographed and filmed. The “Pirate” actors clearly pause and stop at various moments to make sure they don’t catch up to the child actor. It’s just bad. Ok… I’ll forgive that if the show just keeps getting better.
City chase scene is better and events that occur here are good. Kenobi is tasked with not using the force or reveal his location so makes sense. The Reva parkour didn’t bother me. Thought is was cool. The Inquisitors meet at some point and there is trouble in the ranks and a challenge is imminent. Fine. Grand inquisitor is cool and genuinely menacing, the Asian inquisitor and Reva are borderline for me. One is over the top “evil” and growls all his lines, and Reva just seems to get angry, yell, and then lash out. She does it every single appearance in the show through 2 episodes. No nuance to the character for how much focus is on her.
Anyways, Kenobi is forced to use the force to save Leia and it feels like a BIG moment and I’m excited. This is it. His awakening! Nope. Next scene he is just magically at street level with Leia. Even my wife, who was just watching because I was watching it, said, “how did he get down there so fast?” Not a big deal, but why not show a scene of Kenobi force leaping off the building. Would have been cool. I’m still not complaining though.
Skip to scene where Kenobi and Reva arrive at the cargo hangar nearly simultaneously. Kenobi struggles with revealing himself at first but we are going to see our first saber battle! It’s the perfect set up. Reva would make a perfect first challenger for Kenobi. She is brash and overconfident. Kenobi will easily thrash her and at the last moment the other inquisitors rush in and save her. Kenobi and Leia escape and Leia is completely in awe of Kenobi and fully trusts him now. The Inquisitors rush to their ship to give chase but lose the cargo ship as it jumps to light speed. The episode ends with the inquisitors radioing the fleet that they need that ships coordinates!

Except nothing in that last paragraph actually happens. Here is what does and it’s where the show starts worrying me for real. Reva comes in the hangar, senses Kenobi is there, and starts taunting him. Kenobi hides. Why? It’s just him and her at that point. He has been discovered. He knows it. Everyone knows he’s here. But ok, whatever. I wanted a fight but obviously the writers really want to drive home that Kenobi is broken and afraid, even though they had already set up a big moment with music and fanfare when he saved Leia with the force.

Reva taunts Kenobi more and reveals Anakin is alive and he is Darth Vader. Kenobi cowers and is shaken. That’s fine and believable. It would have been far more impactful in the scene had Kenobi started fighting Reva, had her on the ropes, and THEN she reveals it. Kenobi reels and loses focus and narrowly escapes Reva. Would have been so cool. Instead Reva just stabs the Inquisitor and kills him (confirmed, he’s dead). I guess this messes with canon continuity, but honestly. I don’t care about that stuff if improves the story. They can always retcon that later. Problem is it was a weird moment and lacked the impact the writers thought it would.

The 3rd episode is a disaster with the exception of one scene where Leia asked Kenobi what the force feels like. His explanation of turning the lights on when scared in a dark room is BEAUTIFUL and poetic! Amazing writing there. Seriously. Great moment.

The rest of the episode is a series of head scratchers and “omg why” moments. First, there are several moments where the director assumed the audience were idiots. 1. The cargo ship escapes, no pursuit? 2. The stormtrooper checkpoint. No Jedi mind trick? Walk around laser barrier? 3. Vader and fuel spill, Kenobi escape. Vader just used force to extinguish fire a second earlier, but now he can’t? And again, just walk around it!
It’s not nitpicking when these issues are so glaring. I’m out of space here, so in summary, Kenobi appears to be a MONUMENTAL wasted opportunity!

The Special effects (and choreography) aren't that special - it feels a little better than what you might see on Doctor Who. I'm honestly thinking of giving up my Disney subscription. I was hoping that the Book of Bobba was just an aberration. Since this is based on the first three episodes, I'll revise if needed. (Update - I actually felt like laughing watching the big Vader / Obiwan encounter - it was that underwhelming - Obiwan ran just about as clumsily as Leia, Vader was presented in a weird way - weak, inconsistent with how he's been portrayed in the past). Why can't they get directors that are passionately committed to the material. Disney's goal in life is to troll the fans who've been with the franchise the longest.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Based on the opening two episodes, Disney continues to make hash of the original trilogy through needless 'gap-filling' supplements to the Skywalker saga. Here we have a decidedly unheroic Obi-Wan whose pessimism is largely attributed to his failure to save an apprentice he knew from the start was a potentially dangerous Force-wielder. So, for the second time, following Luke's childish abandonment of the Resistance in the Disney sequels, a noble figure from the original trilogy is laid low by dubious attempts to 'deepen' the character. Why couldn't Obi-Wan have been conflicted about his duty to Luke on some insignificant Outer Rim planet when he could have been helping the emerging Rebellion? But no, the show's creators went for an easy 'redemption' character arc that frustrates our expectations for no good reason.

What's worse is the story doesn't compel Obi-Wan to figure things out. During the initial kidnapping plot, sheer coincidence leads him to the brigands holding ten-year-old Leia. A child grifter approaches him and directs him to a supposed Jedi just because he looks lost. Then the fake Jedi tells Obi-Wan where to go when he could have just as easily lied. (Later on, coincidence assumes an even greater role when the fake Jedi helps Obi-Wan for reasons entirely unearned but necessary to force a climactic confrontation.) There's no detective work required of Obi-Wan, just walking around, waiting for others to tell him what to do next.

In terms of acting, while Ewan McGregor gives a creditable, though not especially nuanced performance, the dialogue doesn't do him any favors as characters routinely speak in rote, comic book shorthand, simply announcing their feelings and motives. The rest of the cast seems game but out of their depth, particularly Moses Ingraham and the other paper-thin Inquisitors and the hapless tyke playing a precocious and wholly unlikeable version of Leia.

Not even the action and effects can save this show from the 'barely watchable' category. In the first two episodes alone we're treated to not one but two chase scenes in which the aforementioned ten-year-old outruns grown-ups who should've scooped her up in seconds. The Jedi defending the Padawans in the prologue doesn't need more than a single stroke to cut down any of her foes. The Inquisitors lose their initial prey because he Force-lowers a bit of awning. Obi-Wan exchanges blaster fire across rooftops in the most boring fashion imaginable. There's virtually no suspense or tension to any of it.

One additional annoyance is that the show seems intent on introducing new contradictions to the Skywalker saga. How is it a third-rate Inquisitor is able to determine Obi-Wan's association with Bail Organa and infer Leia's importance by simply reviewing Imperial records? If that's the case, why isn't Bail Organa and by extension, Obi-Wan, hounded by the Inquisitors and/or Darth Vader up until the beginning of Ep. 4? Why doesn't Leia ever mention to Luke that she had an adventure with Obi-Wan when she was a child? You'd think something like that would have been a comfort when Luke was grieving over his mentor's death. Why is Darth Vader's identity as Anakin Skywalker known to low-level Inquisitors when it's apparently unknown to the Rebel Alliance at the beginning of Ep. 4, including Bail Organa, who actually knew Anakin before his heel turn? Rumors like that don't travel as far as Alderaan?

The sad fact is that what the franchise lost in the transition to Disney is the understanding that these characters are archetypes in the same sense as figures from mythology. Not that they can't be complex, but in the main, they should act from a consistent set of well-defined principles. The Mandolorian hinted at a return to this understanding with its early Sergio Leone-style western episodes but ultimately it, too, got mired in the wrongheaded decision to revisit elements of the original Skywalker saga that don't require or even deserve explanation. Knowing what to leave out of a story is as important as knowing what to put in. Disney seems to have forgotten that principle.

Extraordinarily disappointed. Story is flat-out lazy. Directing, sets, costumes are lazy and cheap. I truly cannot understand how Disney manages to screw this franchise up. You have access to the most talented writers, directors, designers, actors, etc on the planet and everything ends up extremely poorly executed. Sorry, but those chase scenes were abysmal. The inquisitors costumes look like they came from the Halloween section at CVS. It’s ObiWan and Vader for crying out loud. Make the show awesome, or don’t make it! Sad time to be a Star Wars fan. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This was exactly like I thought it was. This is not Obi-Wan's show. OH NO, This is the Reva show. The best inquisitor EVER. I only gave it a 3 because of the respect I have for the character. Well, the character of the previous movies, not this Obi-Wan. Obi-Wan leaves Luke? Leia is very obnoxious. The writers of this show could care less about that. They only care about making Reva look good and making Kathleen Kennedy happy. Expand

Can the star wars franchise try a bit different dynamic in the story? The good vs bad premise is already very outdated. The audiences have evolved but series or films like this seem to be absolutely oblivious to it.

The plot makes no sense whatsoever. Again and again the characters do some insane nonsense. Paying any close attention to the show gets punished. Grown adults can't catch children, characters teleport for no reason, bad guys give up insanely easily, and Obi-wan is completely impotent. The direction and writing are simply awful. Don't waste you're time,

This show is flawed. There is a lack of concept and art style that we have become accustomed to in the more recent Disney Star Wars shows. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As a life long Star Wars fan, and exVader costumer, i was really looking forward to the further stories of Obi-Wan Kenobi. One of the best things to come from The Prequels and Clone Wars. But instead we got a chance to see Jake Skywalker, I mean Obi-Wan, get a character assassination from the ideologs employed by Kathleen Kennedy.
Oh and of course the plot ignores Luke. Can't have a male future savior of The Glalaxy!!!!!
The sooner Disney cleans house and root out this rot the better. I've canceled my Disney+ subscription as clearly only The Woke should watch their content. I'll just have to rewatch the originals. Maybe their investors will wake up and see what an opportunity good Star Wars is to print money, but until them I'll keep the thousands I spend on my fandom elsewhere where I'm wanted

It gets a couple of points for Ewan's acting and commitment to the role, but the show itself is shallow, lazy and looks cheap. There's nothing fresh or interesting here. Instead of weird and imaginative (two elements that made Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back the stuff of legends), Kenobi plays it safe with nostalgia and formula - even reusing the child/protector trope from The Mandolorian!

With all the creative possibilities for an Obi-Wan series, this is what they came up with? This show is full of plot holes. The writing is terrible. The story focus should have been on Obi-Wan and Darth Vadar, not Leia and that inquisitor lady. It doesn't even make sense with the movies. It's forgettable after you watch it. At least for me anyway.

Not good - had a lot of promise but there are way to many plot inconsitancies and holes along with bait and switch characterization. Kenobi's depression etc... was not convincing when he should have been training - this needed to be hashed out - And characters knowing who he is and finding him easily was not well explained. Too much show magic vs good writing - the force is weak in this one!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Kenobi Series in its first two episodes are not very good. The story from the beginning of the show does not center around Kenobi but a new character Reva and young Princess Leia. Reva is not a convincing villain and considering the opening will most like be a redeemed villain by the seasons end. The writing is not very good as the powers given to Reva is not consistent. At one point she reads the mind of a fake jedi to find Kenobi yet early on in the show she could have read the mind of Owen Lars and would have found Kenobi about 10 feet away. The chase scene with little Princess Leia is something you would get out of a Benny Hill episode in the 70's. In fact, speed it up a little put Benny Hill music to it and you will laugh. I know Kenobi is supposed to be broken but why does he want to train Luke if using his powers will only tip of Inquisitors. I watched this show to see Kenobi broken but committed to protecting Luke using his powers as needed. What I am getting is another broken down Luke Skywalker. We have seen this before. It doesn't add anything to the Star Wars Universe. I was bored. Expand

Obi-Wan had a larger problem: It was dumb as a rock. Simple rules of spatial logic went out the window. Main characters kept almost killing each other, and then walking away long enough for their wounded opponent could recover.

McGregor is wholly up to the challenge of shouldering the emotional weight of this series, which feels less like a cynical cash grab (despite being that) than a natural continuation of the saga that Lucas crafted more than two decades ago.

Ewan McGregor was last seen as Obi-Wan, he brings more depth, more of a world-weary wisdom to the role. ... As is the case with many a “Star Wars” title, the dialogue sometimes borders on the corny, but director Deborah Chow (“The Mandalorian”) has a keen sense of pacing and a distinct visual style that holds our interest even in the quieter moments. “Obi-Wan Kenobi” is off to a roaring start.
