Mozart In The Jungle may always just be out of reach of the “Great TV” pantheon, but it’s always watchable being entirely itself.

The plot-heavy episodes hit too many notes, but when the story falls away and the characters are set free to soak in the musical beauty of their world, the show truly sings. [31 Dec 2015, p.55]

Mozart in the Jungle is at its best when it's being whimsical. It's at its worst when it's trying to force laughs.

The cast, generally, is superior to the complexity of the situations, with the series delivering its most enjoyable moments via interludes that often do little or nothing to advance the plot.

Beyond such winking moments [of insider-ish jokes], though, the second season of Mozart feels slacker than did the first, which was released a year ago.

I loved, LOVED season 1 more than anything else I watched last year. But season 2 is just horrible.

All of the magic that made this show amazing is just plain gone. It's not funny, clever, or engrossing anymore.

I don't understand how this show went downhill so quickly.

Loved season-1, wished it were longer. Had a hard time sitting through season-2.

Season 2 is a homogenized, generic shell of the first season. The quirkiness, humor and top-notch writing are gone -- it has more of a Lifetime-movie quality. When the 1st season came out, I binged it -- no choice, it was so good I couldn't stop. Once you finish a season-2 episode, there's no urge to immediately watch the next.

Really liked season 1 but 2nd one was a big disappointment. I barely forced myself to watch through it and wondered why i wasted my time.
