I really hate to give this a 6 because I love the show and I loved certain parts of Season 2 but when it ended I was so unsatisfied I had to write this immediately. The whole Atlanta thing got dragged on way to long. They made it a show where they leave everything they built behind to focus on Holden and Tench getting stonewalled every direction they go. That in itself was frustrating because they finally made progress. I still love the show and will rewatch the Manson episode and some others which I really enjoyed.

Edit: I changed my mind a bit after sleeping on it. Good season and I still love the show but I just feel they could of taken what they built in season 1 and went to new heights with S2

I liked his rocky relationship with mothers from Atlanta, but that's it. The screenwriters forgot about his panic attacks so quickly that it added completely nothing to the story. I found Wendy's lesbian storyline utterly tiresome. It's the same story we've seen so many times in different shows e.g. "E.R." in the 90's. It really brings nothing new to the table just recycles well known themes. Bill's family drama was probably the best if it comes to characters. The interviews with serial killers aren't my favourite part. It's like watching talking heads (all of the show is kinda like that) but you can see real versions of interviews with those killers on you tube, so praising the show for just imitate those is not that interesting. I wish they were more dramatic, and have more to do with a plot or with characters. Yes, they have some elements of that but imho not enough. Also I're read books about serial killers so most of the stuff aren't nothing new for me. This show lacks in suspense, lacks in drama, lacks in engaging action and situations. They are here, but they are scattered rather scarcely throughout the season. For me - there were moments of boredom during those 9 hours of TV. The action is too slow, it becomes too repetitive and uneventful. I liked Fincher's "Zodiac". It was also "talking heads" but there was action, thrill, and emotions in it. Maybe the creators should've shortened the season to make it more condensed. I do believe some of the scenes were unnecessary and some of the plots should be trimmed a bit. I liked that we got the feeling of a pack from our main characters under the wings of a new boss. Maybe they still don't trust one another and aren't rely on themselves 100% but they are a team and it shows and it's a great development. At the end of the second season every of the main characters ends up in a lonely place - so now I guess is the time when they should be a real team.

And rember just because one of the creators of the show is David Fincher, doesn't mean you have to give his work 10/10 ;) I loved "Seven" or "Zodiac" but I completely hated "Gone girl" - the most ridiculous, bonkers and stupid movie in years.

This season was really disappointing. I was expecting them to do a lot more with developing Holden's character, especially the way the first season ended. Instead, they spent a lot of time on Tench and his family(which wasn't that interesting), and on Wendy and her new relationship(which wasn't interesting at all). They seemed to take the focus off of multiple cases, and instead focused most of the second season on one case, which was a mistake. I was astonished at how little time they spent on Manson. It seemed like a huge missed opportunity. But the worst decision by far, was to barely have Kemper in the entire 2nd season, and he's basically an afterthought at that. The way the first season ended, it was prime for them to continue to develop Kemper and Holden's odd relationship. For me, I enjoyed the first season so much, because it spent the most time on Holden, who is brilliant, and his forays into communicating and developing relationships with serial killers. The second season, he's not the lead character, and we are forced to follow Tench dealing with a serious, but boring home life, along with following Dr. Carr and her new relationship. I guess I'm confused as to why the show is based on the minds of serial killers, but so much time is spent on the mundane and trivial relationships that could be in almost any drama. Where is the mind hunting? I hope for the 3rd season, if the 2nd season is successful, it returns to the formula that made the first show a success in the first place.

Eerste homohuwelijk vond sowieso plaats in Nederland. Is hier gewoon geaccepteerd.. A solid, if inferior season to the spectacular 1st season. The 2nd season's stories about Tench's son and Dr. Carr's relationship is either too convenient or too frivolous. Is Dr. Carr even necessary for the plot of this season? The acting and production values are still top notch.

It's especially obvious from episode 6 and forward. The tone of the show suddenly changes for some reason. Some awkward comedic passages are introduced that I felt was quite out of place compared to the rest of the season.
The main story also seems to drag out in order to stretch it until the end. For those not familiar with the true story (me included) that serves as the base for this season, the ending seems a bit flawed. When you read up on the tragedies that ensued back then, it makes sense though.

But I did not care for the tone of the last 4 episodes. And it was only when I read up on it at wikipedia that I realized the show changes director for those last 4 episodes. So that's the explanation.

All in all an absolutely worthy second season, but with a second half that changes the mood and pacing in some bad ways.

Its a wonderfully crafted season of TV. The performances are top notch. Every character is important, and carefully written. The music is ridiculously stirring and the cinematography is executed with meticulous intention. There are a lot of complaints online about the pacing of this. Personally, I didn't feel that. You still got a lot of what made the first season work: interviews with famous killers and a look at the process of profiling and how it works. I found the many hindrances, both political and otherwise, that comes with hunting a serial killer to be rather interesting.

The three leads remain strong. Holt McCallany as Bill Tench stands out as the every-man of the group. He gets the strongest personal story this season. Joe Tuttle appears more as newer member Greg Smith. The character brings a certain understated humor to the role being both well-meaning but also a little over-his-head. Frozen's Jonathan Groff remains interesting in his role of earnest, odd Holden Ford. However, I did find that in the first episode he acted a little too naively, considering that he got accepted into the FBI, to be believable. The actors playing the new batch of serial killers being interviewed remain a highlight as they all do a good job.

Overall, if you're into crime dramas, I recommend this.

The show’s narrative is more cohesive this season, too. The team is driven to collect more data from the killers because the so-called Atlanta Child Murders are unfolding and they want to help out with their newfangled profiling. It’s all very, very dark, which for me is very, very intriguing.
