This sucked. Kevin Smith sucks. Netflix sucks. My dyson vacuum sucks, and is the only useful thing in this list of things that suck.

People should really grow up.
Just because the story doesn't focus on the same characters as the original ,doesn't make it a bad show and if it's a bad show for not focusing on male characters you're a misogynist.

Never seen so much whining on Metacritic before. Dudes, it's metacritic. I have always loved He-Man and the masters of the universe. This show is a great contribution to the story. Hope there'll be more.

I agree with those who say they took memorable, strong characters and turned them into whiny idiots. Very much a failure for Teela, Adam, and even the King.

I'm pretty sure I wrote a review after the first part, but here it is again, and my points remain standing:

the voice acting is on the whole awful, between poor casting choices, and poor delivery. The animation is still pretty mediocre. Powerhouse just isn't that good, they produce inconsistent animation, and sure it looks better than most modern cartoons, but that's a really low bar. There is honestly much better animation on tap from other studios. Kevin Smith and his writing team have clearly demonstrated contempt for the source material, the the majority of changes they have made range from unnecessary to cynical to farcical. The humor is low brow juxtaposed against the original's youth oriented humor.

And we have to talk about Teela again. She is the epitome of a Mary Sue in this without the requisite "self-insert" part. What do you call it when the mary sue is created by white knight pandering?

We also need to address the fact that He-Man is still not present. Sure sure sure, you can say "the show isn't called He-Man..." but given the bill of goods we were sold on the way in, we all expected a He-Man story, not a spin-off about support characters (who are incredibly mishandled...)

The only reason I'm giving this a 3/10 and not lower is because there are a few well executed scenes amongst a poorly conceived and produced story.

It was still Masters of the Universe. There were a bunch of absurdly buff people beating the snot out of each other and no one would shut up about Castle Grayskull. Those are literally the only requirements as far as I am aware.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Animation is nice, cool to see they tried to keep the oldschool designs of the characters and machines. I stopped watching after the 3rd episode. I didn't find any excitement in following the main characters. I find the new Teela uninteresting, same for her partner. Evil-Lyn was kind of good, but those three together didn't have a dynamic I found intriguing. I also liked Orco and Gringer, still kind of clumsy and scared, but adorable and sympathetic. I found those two characters pretty empathetic. Teela...not so much. I was hoping for kind of a new take on the main theme. The music is good, don't get me wrong, I'm just a fan of good covers and remixes. I admit I'm kind of fed up about the cliché strong manly girl with undercut with lesbian partner. I like strong organic female characters (Leia, Rippley, Sarah Connor, Katniss Everdeen). I hope in a few years we get well-written female characters again, which we will follow from beginning to end (not like Rose; which I like; in Episode IX, but hey, let's introduce 2 new female characters, we won't care much cause it's the end of the trilogy and...hey Palpatine returned).

So yeah, I didn't want to follow the haters, but after having watched 3 episodes, I'm out. Remember She-Ra? Please don't, leave it be.

People tend to hate it since the first season because of the plot where he-man is being killed, but that brings the hole story to another twist. Its darker in its story, magnificently painted and the voicecharacters are perfect. Give this version a go, its just to good to be missed out on. Expand

While many people are upset over the focus on Teela my problem is that Revelation fails to capture the personality and heart of Prince Adam himself. Adam was the star of the filmation show. He wasn't a little scrawny kid who was clueless. I feel Revelation took Adam from 200x instead of filmation which was a mistake. I was happy to see cringer speak but Battle Cat can't? If this is a sequel whats the explanation for Battle Cat losing his ability to speak? Finally Skeletor sounds a bit too much like the joker. Why they elected not to let Alan Oppenheimer reprise his role as Skeletor is beyond me. Expand

Needless to say I was shocked within the 1st 5 minutes of the events that take place. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As an 80s kid, who grew up with He-Man and She-Ra and had all the toys, I absolutely loved this show. KS did a fantastic job to bring the show into 2021 and removing He-Man (for the time being, no one actually believed he'd stay dead) gives the rest of the cast a time to shine and develop into actual 3 dimensional characters. It creates a new Eternia that is the same but with more depth and realism. Letting Skeletor win for a change raises the stakes and makes him an actual thread, rather than a goofy caricature. Of course the same group of people who moan about everything, would loose their heads, as expected but it's their loss.
Whereas the original was trapped in a spiral of the same story over and over again (Skeletor tries something but is too stupid, He-Man saves the day, Skeletor tries something but is too stupid, He-Man saves the day, Skeletor tries something...etc and so on) this new adaption really moves the story and characters along and that's what I want, as a He-Man fan, who is not a kid anymore. Voice acting and Animation is top notch, as is to be expected from Powerhouse Animation Studios
Glad this is getting a second season, in which I'm sure, He-Man will take centre stage and people will find something else to moan about. Just the times we live in.
I recommended the show to every He-Man fan, who is not too attached to their nostalgia goggles and are open for new stories.

It’s getting review bombed because it’s basically bait, throws the source material in the trash (super disrespectful), and instead of offering a modern look at healthy masculinity (since He-Man is to men what Barbie is for women) it just makes all the villains men, all the women are good and perfect, blah-blah-blah, you’ve heard it all before.
Those who made the series are digging their heels in, dismissing reviews as toxic, but this series doesn’t have the tone, character, spirit, etc of the original content. It’s not going to make you smile, it’s not going to lift your spirits.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. He-Man is my childhood hero, right next to Superman, Batman and Spider-Man. Kevin Smith is among my most favourite people in Hollywood, I mean "Clerks" and "Dogma" - enough said. This should be as easy for me to watch and enjoy as it can be... and yet...

This show starts strong. All our heroes are there and they look better than ever! The designs are amazing and detailed, the animation is masterful, the voices fit the characters perfectly! The music is fantastic and fits the universe of He-Man as if it was always there. This show had everything it needed to succeed. But then there is the plot.

Many are saying that this show pushes the "strong female" too much. That is **** If anything, this show makes women seem illogical, stubborn and unempathetic. He-Man appears in the show for just a brief moment with the majority of the story dealing with interesting ideas, such as the world without He-Man or even the Power Sword. The balance between magic and technology is also mentioned. Sadly all those interesting topics are pushed out of mind for an uninspiring, poorly written Teela and her journey into stupidity. You see, at the start of the show Teela gets recognition and a promotion shortly before Castle Greyskull is attacked by the forces of Skeletor. He-Man dies protecting the castle and the universe. Teela finds out that Prince Adam was He-Man shortly before his death... and flips out. She just got promoted, before that she was just another soldier and while she was a friend, we all know why superheroes hide their identities. Teela however is angry in the childish temper tantrum kind of way. Then the show proceeds to dishonour Man-At-Arms, kill Orko and Roboto in the quest to restore the Power Sword. They even get Prince Adam back... only to kill him again. I will repeat - the main character, the icon of pop culture, the hero of my childhood dies twice in this show. This time making it blatantly clear that there's no coming back.

Now, I'm not mad about He-Man dying. The concept can be interesting and passing the torch to a new character can benefit all, us with a new story and the franchise by pushing new toys. But this was a senseless and disrespectful way to do this. Pushing Teela into a more proactive role is a good idea but again, it was executed poorly turning one of the fan-favourite characters into an angsty and blatantly stupid new main character. This new Teela isn't likeable or relatable, she's not a staple of female empowerment, in fact, she takes away from the role model that she should be. Acting like an entitled, petulant child without thought isn't a desirable trait at all.

The story, while having hints of an interesting direction, is filled with nothing but letdowns in the most important moments. The depth given to some characters isn't paid off in a satisfying manner at all. While Orko's death was heroic, it was at the hand of an enemy Teela defeated previously and now she was just standing there doing nothing. All the character development for Evil-Lyn was for nothing and had no payoff at all. If you need to sideline or kill off all male characters to make one, poorly written, Teela stand out then you are only stressing out how much less powerful, interesting and important she is... The point of the show was to give Teela more to do, to make her into another Wonder Woman, but Wonder Woman doesn't take away from Superman or Batman, she stands on equal footing with them. This show's idea of empowering Teela was to eliminate all other, more prominent, heroes! That's a terrible way of going about this!

This show is insulting. Insulting to the fans of the franchise. Insulting to the intelligence of the audience. Insulting to girls and women with how it presents them. I rate it 3/10 for music and animation quality. Other than that... this is a worse addition to this franchise than the 2002 attempt at bringing He-Man and the Masters of the Universe back.

Unfortunately, the series itself was a whole different affair. Some really well choreographed (even great) action sequences and I liked Man-At-Arms, but everything else was just a terrible nightmare, characters butchered, starting with he-man himself who dies in the first episode.

Something that is in short supply in the western animation industry. Not that it matters because they disregard and disrespect MOTU fans by treating Adam like a useless tertiary character in his own show.

They take every opportunity they get to bemoan and belittle the character. He doesn't get to be the hero of his own show. Instead, his role is to be the stepping stone to prop up female characters. Apparently, men can no longer be heroes in 2021.

Netflix and Kevin smith have resurrected the Masters of The Universe franchise just so they can debase it in front of people who spend 12 hours on Twitter every day for meager praise and back pats.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I could not finish even the first episode. Even though the animation is really good, it was boring. The battle in the first episode lacked energy. The voice acting did not match the characters, especially Teela and Evil-Lyn. There was too much of Mark Hamil's Joker in Skeletor. Then, when Teela started whining about not getting told the secret and the King banishing Man-At-Arms, I turned it off. The King should have divorced the Queen because the Queen knew the secret. The way these characters are written sucks. It's clear that we are supposed to love Teela because of all the praise heaped on her, but she is selfish and smug. I saw previews of what is to come in the later episodes. The show centers around Teela who is whiny and self-absorbed. Terrible, absolutely terrible. Skip this. Expand

Besides that, the main issue with the show is it is misandrist and the women characters would be considered toxic masculine if they were men. Men are presented as weak, dumb, extremely flawed, and bad while the women are righteous, smart, macho, arrogant, selfish, mean, and humorless, especially the Teela character. The original He-Man and She-Ra cartoons are nothing at all like this. They are much more light hearted. As everyone has noted, the main positive for it is the animation. The original series looks very dated visually but I highly recommend watching at least a few episodes if you haven't. They have a genuine 80s nostalgic charm to them and you can see how different they were compared to this one. Keep in mind the original show was meant for kids and to help sell the toy line associated with it. Expand

As I was beginning to start the stream I was wondering why the show wasn't called "He-Man: Masters of the Universe Revelation", and I got the answer to that really quick.

It's not a horrible cartoon. In fact the animations look great. The story is a bit so so though, and the motivation of Teela is a bit forced if not weird. Somebody just died and saved your life and the entire universe, and she can only think of being pissed off because she was lied to..... seems a bit weird to make the storytelling drive of your main hero for her to be a selfish brat, but ok.

I was a bit let down by some of the voice acting honestly. Especially the actress who voiced Teela (who I am now finding out was Sarah Michelle Gellar, ok that's pretty cool) who at certain times literally seemed as if the was reading her lines as opposed to expressing emotions with her voice. "You're hurting her" without any emotion at all as one of her old friends gets seemingly hurt by Evil-Lyn. Orko?

I think if it was made clear from the start this show was about the universe as opposed to about the original main character. [I mean, he's front and centre in the show's 'poster' as well] Then I think my dissapointment would have been a bit less. But they basically made a He-Man show without him, and when he was around he was made a bit incompotent as to apparantly make another character look better. I mean, this whole mess starts because he basically was gauded by Skeletor to lunge at him.

So yeah. Not a horrible cartoon, certainly not a great one. If you're a fan of the old show then you will dislike it a bit more than somebody who was new to this franchise.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As a huge fan growing up, I was excited for this. I walked away beyond disappointed Pros:
The Animation was really good

Cons: He-Man who’s supposed to be the star of the show was cast aside in favor of Teela. Teela looks like a man, no doubt her character was purposely made to look like a lesbian, even has a girlfriend sidekick. Skelator was also cast aside in favor of Evil Lyn. Basically this was the last Jedi all over. Beyond disappointed

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The only revelation from this series is that Kevin Smith has sold out to the wokeism pervading Hollywood. A man who built his reputation on being a true comic book guy partnered with a social justice warrior at Netflix, took something beloved - and destroyed it. Teela who was always like a princess/girlfriend to He-Man was given a massive change. The writers got rid of He-Man and make Teela the He-Woman, complete with masculine shoulders and arms (and haircut). It’s not all changes though; Lieutenant Andros is still there. Although they did a color swap for her, topped off with her dreadlocks kept up on her head. Inclusivity is a wonderful thing but when you compromise storytelling for so called ‘diversity’ and social engineering - the effect is unmistakable. And the changes were all unnecessary because The Masters Of The Universe was already diverse and all the women extremely capable and powerful. That wasn’t enough though for this latest crop. The writers had to do some gymnastics in order to make Teela the primary figure in this series. What they did was so myopic that it just ruined the show from the outset. Our new hyper masculine Teela has been promoted to be the new sergeant at arms. But after Adam/He-Man is killed, her reaction is more like a 10-year-old girl’s. She was so upset that she did not know the truth of his duel identity that she attacked everyone and forsaked her duty. So, we can all see how immature and irresponsible Teela is at the beginning and she is to be our new hero. A massive disservice to the legacy of this character. Turns out she was completely unqualified to be the sergeant at arms but now she should be the protagonist of the show with her newfound supposed powerful transformation Smith has given her. Perhaps if they entitled the show ‘buffed up Woman-Child’, people would’ve been more prepared for the story that would unfold.
She just could not deal that Adam had kept his secret from her, no matter what the reasons. Despite that. everyone is supposed to be OK with her subsequent apparent secret that Lieutenant Andros is her lesbian lover. Never overt but hush, hush, wink, wink There are some good things about this show but it’s so corrupted that it is completely overshadowed. The myopia from the creators was just too great; witching the main character from selfless He Man to now selfish Teela is an insult to any thinking person. I’m sorry but I could not get past episode two, and I really wanted to but I had to stop watching. What a disgrace. I have more or less followed Smith’s career and this is by far the worst thing he’s ever done.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Positive: -Awesome Animation -Good background for some characters like Orko -Good Voice Actors
Negative: The rest:
1-Masters of the Universe is about He-Man and his friends. Not in this series. The story centers on Teela, a hyper masculinized, selfish and Narcissistic character who doesn't care in the least about her father. 2-Kevin Smith lied to us again and again. He said Masters of The Universe: revelation is all about He-Man. And Teela is not the main Character. Lies. 3-Some characters are so different from their original versions that they are unrecognizable. He-Man is a naive and clumsy character. His father, King Randor, gets mad for no reason with his right hand Man-at-Arms and banishes him. Teela has lost her femininity, she behaves like a man and is selfish and Narcissistic. Hateful character
4-Not a single main male character leading this show.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The new Masters of the Universe, has shown an extrodinary quality in the animation. The history could have been a little less intuitive, we have the stereotypical girl with the shaved hair and the adventure to fight your own fears to save everyone, that is to say we had seen this scenarios in other series: Trollhunters, Adventure time, She-Ra(new), Final Space, etc. I think the goals of the series have change in order to satisfy the demands of political correctness, but I must say that the new goals shouldn't mess with the spectators preferences, a lot of the people that sat down to watch it, was expecting to remember old memories and not to forge new ones, while seeing, I could say, their favorite character from childhood getting murdered (apparently twice). At the end I think that this change is meant to be for the new spectators, while expecting the old ones to forget some precious memories, but after all I can say that this show can give more than we think, if gets worked correctly. I was excited having watched the trailers and build up for the show and generally ignored all the rumours. However having watched the first five episodes I am absolutely lost for words as to how the writers decided to take the direction they have with this. The trailer and marketing was all about He-man yet he is a side note as all the focus is on Teela, I can now understand the bait and switch a lot of fans are talking about. They are essentially writing He-man out of the world and the emphasis is more on that anyone can be the master of the universe as long as they say the words and hold the sword. The whole thing stinks of Social Agenda which whilst important in the world of politics and social debate should not intrude into ppls escapism. I don't want to come home after a long day and see my beloved childhood heroes, worlds and stories butchered and dissected and rearranged to fit some Social justice agenda. I will see how Part 2 goes but my prediction is that He-man being a white blonde haired male simply isn't allowed anymore. Kevin Smith has done a marvellous job of bringing new depths to old well established characters and locations and shining a needed light on the lesser known ones. Many people are calling Masters of the universe revelation woke. They must have very short memories. Original 80s He-Man was always woke. With each episode teaching you important life lessons. Love is better than hate and that drugs don't make your problems go away. He-Man was always about being better. With a cast that rivals any big budget TV show *Mark Hamill* as skeletor and even bringing back the original voice of Skeletor *Alan Oppenheimer* to reprise his voice as Moss Man. It's clear this was a labour of love for all involved. A soundtrack by the great Bear Mccreary *battlestar Galactica* giving off 80s vibes only emphasises an already stunning visual treat full of twists, turns and tears for fans new and old. 9/10

The complete utter disregard for the source material, the fact that they completely feminized Adam, the fact that they ruined Teela who is one of those strong wonderful female characters that were too few and far between in the 80s, Or the fact that they completely sidelined the main character, he man, it is on series. Oh wait we could also add that they made the sorceress, who is obviously the most powerful, and wisest character in the original show a moron,Then there’s the fact that they made prince Adams dad a jerk oh yeah they also sidelined man at arms, likely the second most important heroic man in the show… I think I’ve got it mostly covered there, oh wait there’s what they did with Orco. The only thing decent about it is the animation, and even that in some instances was pretty lame in regards to Adams transformation into he-man Adams design in general and Teelas design as well; she in specific went from a strong and athletic but still feminine looking character to… A Karen haircut having butch masculine bodied character, who is written as a self important and selfish child. Supposedly the second half of the miniseries will bring a lot more he-man, but as for right now I would not recommend the show to anyone who is a fan of the 80s cartoon or anyone in general who I respect. What Kevin Smith delivered here Was his distain for the character to show the intellectual property and the fans who loved it. Expand
