At least the opener indicates this remains an intelligent series in search of complex answers to complicated questions.

This is the most entertaining the show has been in quite some time, but for reasons most would never have predicted. Like just about everyone in this episode, Masters of Sex has finally been liberated.

There is an old axiom that says you should not confuse sex with love. The fourth season of Masters of Sex lands squarely and entertainingly right in the middle of that potential mess.

Masters of Sex excels when Virginia Johnson and William Masters are together, so it's to the season 4 premiere's detriment that they share only a few mostly uneventful minutes on screen. Still, the duo deliver nuanced performances. [9 Sep 2016, p.55]

Watching Masters plod around in despair, while Johnson rejects his attentions, doesn't feel suspenseful, since we know at some point these two are going to tie the knot. By this point, it's hard to care about their relationship, or the fate of their sex-research clinic.

I dislike when networks cancel long-running series after a season has been filmed rather than before, to allow the writers to wrap things up well, but despite the fact that Showtime didn't announce the cancellation of MoS until after the finale aired, the last few episodes did a good job of wrapping up story lines and concluding the most interesting chapters in the personal and professional lives of the two lead characters. The addition of two new clinicians to the practice in season 4 added a great spark and the overall pacing felt much better. Season 1 remains the high point for the series but season 4 at least returned to the very high quality of season 2. Definitely worth watching! Full Review »

Seems like they were trying to rush the timeline. Could have spent a season in the 70's would have helped series. Couple of the episodes are pointless and add nothing to the overall arch of the show. Some episodes Coats and Keys are where the show should have gone. The writers have found themselves trying to give everyone a happy ending when you deal with real people that is not always the case and this was supposed to be based on at least semi real events.
