    There's a really good show trapped somewhere within Jessica Jones, which unfortunately couldn't get out due to several glaring issues.
    1. Apparently, the writers think that the audience won't understand who Jessica is, so they have other characters constantly describing her for us ("freak", "you're not normal", "you use sarcasm to deflect", etc.).
    2. It's an 8 episode storyline stretched    There's a really good show trapped somewhere within Jessica Jones, which unfortunately couldn't get out due to several glaring issues.
    1. Apparently, the writers think that the audience won't understand who Jessica is, so they have other characters constantly describing her for us ("freak", "you're not normal", "you use sarcasm to deflect", etc.).
    2. It's an 8 episode storyline stretched to 13. Mostly with countless unearned subplots about characters that are completely pointless in the grand scheme of things.
    3. Mike Colter as Luke Cage is another perfect casting in the MCU, but his presence feels like an afterthought to please the comic book fans.
    4. Jessica's powers weren't well translated, since they're always portrayed with dodgy editing to disguise the lack of budget.
    5. The conflict was solved very easily, and therefore, didn't feel cathartic.
    But to be fair, there are some elements that deserve praise. Krysten Ritter is great (she's a more understated version of Eva Green), David Tennant chewing massive chunks of scenery is a lot of fun, and the show treats sexual abuse in a way that doesn't feel exploitative (I'm looking at you Game of Thrones).
    Overall, it wasn't my cup of tea, but it did make me excited to see more of Luke Cage.    … Expand

    I went into this show expecting something great along the lines of Daredevil and what I got was one of the most boring shows I've seen in years. If this had been on network television, it wouldn't have made it past six episodes.

    The acting is mostly decent, but what kills it is the pacing. There isn't single episode that really draws you in and makes you wonder what's coming next.     What boggles my mind is the unrelenting cascade of accolades proclaiming this as the best show on TV. Have any of the critics actually watched this show past the pilot? It's boring - watching paint dry boring.

    I had high hopes for this show as I love Marvel and I'm a fan of Ritter's but this show is plodding, not terribly eventful and ultimately a bit of a bore.

    I'm a fan of pretty much everything Marvel has done in recent years and liked the previous Daredevil season 1, but Jessica Jones hit the ground stumbling and didn't get much better.

    I feel like this entire season could have been condensed down to about 4 episodes, so dragging it out to 13 explains the severe pacing issues. If I weren't a fan of David Tennant, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Krysten Ritter I would have given up after episode 1 or 2. Sadly my persistence was rewarded with only brief moments of intelligence that never develop the depth they could have.

    I do complement the series' noir tone, and attempts to cover 'darker' topics, but there aren't enough shadows to hide how shallow most of the characters are.

    If you like Marvel stuff with a noir slant, and have _literally_ nothing else to do, watch this show. Otherwise, just give it a miss.    … Expand

    Honestly this is some of the worst written garbage I think I have ever watched. Im giving it 1 point because I did end up watching all of it but my god it is just awful. I watch a show like Mad Men or Breaking Bad and I am amazed at the incredible writing and acting. Then I watch Jessica Jones and cant help but laugh. The humor is so incredibly horrible the delivery by the actors isHonestly this is some of the worst written garbage I think I have ever watched.     "Jessica Jones" is an undeniable, fantastic series. The acting is top notch, the characters are fascinating, and the directing is phenomenal. I am in love with this show. You must go watch it now! Another Netflix winner!

    Don't worry, you're not the only one that can't explain why this got good ratings. It's like True Detective season 2, but with more exploitation and b-actor resurrection.

    Honestly couldn't get past the first 30-40 minutes of the first episode. I think it is wrongly cast and some of the acting is awful. Also, the writing and progression are both predictable and non-intriguing. I will give it another chance at some point but for now, 4/10.

    Anybody else want to guess what this show was about? I have given up. The genre is absolutely wrong for the show's theme, it is so ground in drama it cannot be classed as anything else, despite of any outlining comic book story. There is no horror despite of whatever attempted surealism, no Noir just because she has a case of the fairies, it doesn't make this exploitation, if there interracial sex and other confused bisexuality. No thriller if I am bored to death. And she barely fits into her make-up style either when shown like this. If what she has got is a big chip on her shoulder turning into a superstrength Hyde protecting other ho's from abuse, and in her spare time living in crackhouse offering up her PI. Where is her pain, what is her pain? It wasn't even properly explored and fully haunted, instead we are bombarded with what the show thinks of other reality, within that underbelly, but it was never even fully aware that this was a comic book.

Advoid tbis show at ALL costs. I ho estly think the mainstream media is giving this show such high praise is because of how progressive it is. With muh female lead, worthless hours of useless lesbian sub plot, incest,This show had such promise to be good.     SO, I loved the story through and through. Of course, David Tenant (10 inch) was amazing as he always is. Great character actor! Still my favorite Dr. Who of all time. Anyways, If I had to give one criticism, and I am, its that there is something missing from Ms. Ritter's performance. She is good at playing the **** role and snarky, which should not be confused with strong female and aSO, I loved the story through and through.     Jessica Jones (JJ) is a TV show with a 'superhero' bent, that tries its absolute hardest to avoid anything 'super'.
    JJ is an 'ex-superhero' who now works a private investigator. Her actual powers are never really delved into (she possesses a high degree of strength, but not Captain America or Spider-Man level, and she can jump pretty high, but that seems to be just about it), so the show    Jessica Jones (JJ) is a TV show with a 'superhero' bent, that tries its absolute hardest to avoid anything 'super'.
    JJ is an 'ex-superhero' who now works a private investigator. Her actual powers are never really delved into (she possesses a high degree of strength, but not Captain America or Spider-Man level, and she can jump pretty high, but that seems to be just about it), so the show focusses more on her as a character.
    The upside is that we see a flawed, mysogynistic, aggressive, alcohol dependant, borderline sociopath. The downside is that it gets tired very quickly, as the whole 'anti-hero' vibe has been done to death.

    As the series progresses we get a look into JJ's past, and her experiences with the main villain (adding a level of welcome subtext), but ultimately it doesn't pay off, and it concludes in a very anticlimactic way.

    I guess my main problem is that the show doesn't know what it wants to be. There are some great ideas, and the actual cinematography, direction and the 'look' is gritty and full of grime and dirt. But despite it having some very adult themes, some scenes of sex, some of violence, it doesn't really run with the 'made for grown-ups' ball.
    No swearing, no nudity, no inherent racism or xenophobia. It paints a dark picture, creates dark characters, but then has them actually exist in a world where profanity and drug use in an inner-city environment don't exist.
    I think the show would have worked much better if they'd gone straight for the full 'M' rating and pushed the boat out on tailoring it for adults.    … Expand

I keep seeing these good reviews and I honestly don't understand. This show is god awful! It has such a basic plot that could have been wrapped up in three episodes. Instead it drags on and on and on and feels like an eternity to be quite honest. After watching daredevil season one I was looking forward to watching Jessica Jones, however now I please ask Markel and Netflix, please respect the time of your fans and do not make a season two of this foolish nonsense!     It's hard to give specific reasons without spoilers, but when I think Jessica Jones the one word that comes to mind is **** She's supposed to be the good guy, the one you root for, but she always has this attitude and everything is an issue with her. She's a mess, the people she spends her time with are a mess, and she seems like easy picking for the villain who chose to pray on her mind.

    The whole point of a superhero is to help people and to have people behind you and your brand of vigilante justice, but she seems to hurt more people than she helps, just look at what she did to Luke Cage (Mike Colter). Maybe others will feel differently, but I don't like the main character and therefore don't approve of the show. I love Luke Cage and I really like the idea of having a self-narrating private investigator, but there is this whole negative energy that surrounds her and everything she does, that I just can't get passed.

    I do love Daredevil and Luke Cage, I'll probably check out Iron Fist and I definitely will be watching the Defenders, so I guess I kind of have to watch season 2 of Jessica Jones, but fans of the show have a long wait ahead of them, as Netflix has confirmed that it won't be released until sometime in 2018, after season 1 of The Defenders.    … Expand

Very much a slow burn and character based overall rather than the more fight-scene / CG orientated superhero stories of which there are many. Ritter does a great job of portraying a woman who's basically wrecked her life due to guilt, boozing, pushing everyone away etc. and slowly moving back towards 'normality' DavidGood series, not 'Daredevil', but then again it's not trying to be. Very much a slow burn and character based overall rather than the more fight-scene / CG orientated superhero stories of which there are many. Ritter does a great job of portraying a woman who's basically wrecked her life due to guilt, boozing, pushing everyone away etc. and slowly moving back towards 'normality' David Tennant however, absolutely steals the show, particularly from the mid-season point thereon: achieving one of the best 'villan' performances i've seen since 'The Wire', where you manage simultaneously to hate him and feel sympathy, sometimes within seconds. This would have been a 10 for me, but actually the poor showcasing of powers (Luke / Jessica), and mixed pacing especially early on in the season knocks it down a little. Still solid viewing, and I hope they produce another season with some of the lessons learned i.e. you can take your time to 'build' but you really need to hit your stride by the 3rd/4th episode, and there's no excuse for not even having a single 'super-strength' showcase moment until the last 1/4 of the season.… Expand

Though in Marvel, Netflix, and Disney's defense, look at the overall score this thing gets and it's viewership, it may be poor writing but people with questionable taste watch shows and buy merchandise too...

    Here is hoping in Luke Cage and The Defenders, or maybe JJ S2, she's done real justice.    … Expand

Thirteen hours of depressing low energy acting in which there were NO likable characters and Kilgrave came off as the worlds biggest stalker instead of a terrifying villain. The fight scenes were horribly done and even the intro has to be the most boring intro of any show.

    It seems as though the success of    I was hearing a lot about Jessica Jones and thought it would be worth watching.     I would have rather had seen thirteen episodes with individual stories with Kilgrave as the main background villain but instead the whole story revolved around a character who can be taken out with a bullet to the skull and we find out that what is implied about his powers in the show are inconsistent.

    All in all I think every aspect of this show is predictable and there is so little amount of humor in this show that it makes it hard to enjoy when everything that happens is negative. I would not recommend this show to anyone.

However, that is were the compliments end, The writing for this show at times was terrible, odd plots that make no sense, for example Jessica's plan to get into a Super max prison, the reasoning and means to achieve this were just stupid. There were just a slew of mind numbing, head scathing plans that just didn't make sense, and i blame the writers for this. Also Jessica's overly prickly nature made it hard at times to like her, i understand its part of her persona, but its always a good idea to make the protagonist likable, and there were times i couldn't stand her, again i blame the writers. Also there was a lot of dead time in these episodes, non important scenes were introduced that were not needed. They could have easily shaved 3 episodes from this series, and it would have helped to make it more focused. I think they missed a real opportunity tell a story about a great super movie heroine that beat the odds and saved the day against a vicious killer, instead we get a long laborious hancock rip off with a most unsatisfying ending.… Expand

    The only real engine which allows the show to take off is how its describes the reaction of victims to the bad guy's power. One thing the writers manage to succeed in is to pose the Villain as a real threat and portrait reasonably how mind controlling would affect victims.    … Expand

    The potential to do cross-over is there but was not maximized, TV series is not as good as the original source material. David Tenant is a great actor but the poor script has no respect for logic.

    La serie es buena, tiene un buen ritmo que es constante y con giros algo interesantes, el papel que hace Krysten Ritter (Protagonista) y David Tennant (Villano - Killgrave) son muy complejos y muy bien armados, en especial Killgrave.

    Otra cosa que me gustó mucho y que me llamó bastante la atención es que aunque es una trama de superhéroes y que por lo general es un mundo de hombres que    La serie es buena, tiene un buen ritmo que es constante y con giros algo interesantes, el papel que hace Krysten Ritter (Protagonista) y David Tennant (Villano - Killgrave) son muy complejos y muy bien armados, en especial Killgrave.

    Otra cosa que me gustó mucho y que me llamó bastante la atención es que aunque es una trama de superhéroes y que por lo general es un mundo de hombres que buscan proteger a la dama en apuros, en esta serie se ve lo contrario es una mujer que tiene sus problemas y sus inconvenientes y no necesitan que la rescaten, eso sin llegar a ser feminista y eliminar a los hombres de su mundo, y esto se ve reflejado no solo en la protagonista principal si no en todos los caracteres femeninos de la historia, y en la trama general en sí.

    No esperes una copia o algo parecido a Daredevil, que aunque sea hecho con el mismo formato, la historia y la forma de contarla es distinta. Daredevil es más del tipo justiciero de los inocentes tirando a ser una especia de Batman y Jessica Jones es más del tipo detective que no es tan oscuro.

    Lo que no me gustó fue que dejaron muchas historias abiertas, que dan a entender que hay una segunda temporada pero aún no han anunciado nada oficial aún.    … Expand

    A very strong show. It is filled with mature themes - Sex, anxiety, self-pity, acohalism. It is not just another superhero show. It a fully thought out superhero show where the characters are more than just their superpowers.

It got better with the last 5 episodes but that's because I love Marvel and will watch just about anything they attempt. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is the exception. No matter how hard I tried I couldn't get through the whole season with out falling asleep. I had such a poor experience with season 1 I didn't bother with season 2. If the first Avenger's movie is my gold standard and Agents of Shield is the bottom of the barrel, Jessica Jones is closer to Agents of Shield.

    Jessica Jones' biggest flaw for me was believability. I couldn't get lost in the story because there was so many things I didn't believe. It distracted me and I couldn't suspend beiief. The first Iron Man movie had a ton of holes in the story and the logic but it was still a ton of fun and I happily went along for the ride. Jessica Jones... not so much.

    I had a hard time believing Krysten Ritter. Her portrayal of the character seemed very one note. I didn't see a lot of depth or change. She seemed like a cynical, bitter, angry, unlikeable jerk at the beginning of the series and she ends the series deleting voicemails from strangers who are asking for her help. Still a jerk. No change. And she's constantly scowling. Wolverine can be a cynical, bitter, angry, unlikeable jerk but he's not that way all the time. Even in flashbacks, when Jessica is a teenager she is unlikeable. If Kilgrave did horrible things to her and it changed her, I couldn't see the change. I felt like most of Ritter's performance was focussed on furrowing her brow. Her face can be very expressive, she's demonstrated she not a one note actor in "Breaking Bad" and "Don't Trust the B" so I'm not sure why she went that route here. I never felt empathy for Jessica, I never felt like I understood her motivations and I never felt like she was portraying anything more than a caricature or a noir stereotype. But bottom line, the character was so unlikeable I couldn't believe why any of the other characters would like her, which took me out of the show.

    I never felt much empathy for any of Kilgrave's victims or felt what Kilgrave was doing was that evil. But I should have. He was making people do horrible things against their will. He was violating them on a very deep level but I couldn't feel their suffering. Maybe this is a symptom of the actor's ability to portray victims. But I have watched a lot of Law & Order and I always feel for the victims on that show. It can't be that hard to find decent actors who can play a believable victims. New York City is littered with them as evident of the 1.2 million Law & Order episodes currently airing on TV (not an accurate figure, let's just say there are a lot). Jessica's neighbor Malcolm, who is a survivor of Kilgrave's manipulation, is so whiny and needy I was kind of hoping he'd get offed.

    Most importantly were the demonstration of powers. What are Jessica's powers? She super strong but she's not invulnerable? Usually those two go hand in hand, and she's doesn't even come off as that strong. Sydney Bristow in one episode of "Alias" comes off as more of a badass superhero than Jessica Jones ever comes close to in the whole series. The fight scenes were weak and there weren't enough of them. And yes, I am a continuity nerd, but if she can suffer some scrapes to the face in a fight, then she should be in a world of hurt after jumping off a 5 story building and landing on her feet if she doesn't have super human durability. Super strength doesn't stop gravity from pushing your bones through the flesh of your feet, super durability does. And she drinks like a fish but never gets drunk? And it obviously doesn't get rid of her pain. So why drink? Other than to make her seem like a hard drinking badass - hollywood style! This made me think the show was shallow and cheap, doing thing for surface reasons and not for story reasons.

    I want to like this show so bad but there was so much that took me out of it. But it has potential, lots of potential. I think it needs better writers and better directors, I don't think it was the actors or the source material. I will watch the second season and hope for the best. It's not as bad as Agents of Shield but it's not as good as Daredevil.    … Expand

Do we really need a throng of supporting cast to exhibit and explore all the differing degrees, variations, shades and techniques of controlling, abusive relationships? Half a dozen couples in the series suffer the same co-dependency problems, deal with them more or less badly, and preach the same moral on personal dysfunctionality. Ho, hum.     This show is so bad... after watching narcos this is like watching peppa pig with my daughter. Charters are so dumb i can't stand to watch it after episode 5... so you want to capture a villain that can command you throught his voice ? Just use some earplug or earphones with high volume music !

    Krysten Ritter does an excellent job of making us feel Jessica's pain. She's a superhero but is helpless when it comes to Kevin Kilgrave (ie the Purple Man).. David Tennant is at the top of his game in this role. I initially thought Kevin's mind controlling power was lame but quickly changed my mind (no pun intended). Being able to mentally control anyone/everyone may be the scariest power of all.

    The setting is gritty. "Jessica Jones" like 'Daredevil" takes place in Hell's Kitchen. The fight scenes are fun. The story line is a bit slow at times but I'm willing to overlook that. The supporting cast is great. Rachael Taylor is a standout as Trish/Patsy Walker who is Jessica's BFF. I hope we see lots more of her in season 2. Also keep an eye out for the Luke Cage (Mike Colter) spinoff soon.

    Kudos to Netflix/Marvel for adding another female lead. While SuperGirl and Agent Peggy Carter are cute and perky, Jessica gives us someone we can relate to who just happens to save the world.    … Expand

This made me watch the first episode, but I don't quite share her experience. Granted for a marvel setting it is tolerable show because Jessica's superpowers are downplayed: she is more human than superhuman, so to speak. However, I just fail to share the fascination for superheroes given that normal people, with all their frailties, are far more heroic in my eyes. The only superhero themed movie that I recall to like is Birdman precisely because it isn't exactly about superheroism.

    My problem with Jessica Jones isn't that she is a superhero, but that she is supposed to be a private eye. A film noir kind of PI to be more precise. This puts her in the same group of people as, say, V. I. Warshawski or Kinsey Millhone, the latter not exactly a noir PI.

    Jessica gets introduced with an overvoice suggesting an experienced PI who has seen it all, while she runs around half the time with tear stained doe-eyes looking more like a victim on the run than an investigator on the prowl. So I can't quite make the leap that sees Ritter turn into the hardboiled PI Jessica is supposed to be. Ritter is a very pretty young woman who makes a totally unbelievable tough chick with a vulnerable side. The one is not the other.
    The problem gets compounded by attributing her all the staple noir trappings. She drinks heavily, but doesn't suffer much for it; has no friends to speak off, so she claims; can't get into any stable relationships, she has non at the start and we are served a hugely embarrassing sex scene with Luke Cage halfway into the first episode, where Jessica is totally pissed during their bout; and is a loner because of her super hero affliction and her bad experience with the main villain. And of course she can't get along with the police and badmouths her occasional employer Hogarth and non friend Walker, because that is what she has to do.
    This might be needed for a comic aimed mostly at imagery and with little room for complexity, but something better can be expected for a television series that allows for more depth. If Jessica is a hard boiled detective with a soft side, make her look and behave the part. If you drink a lot, you get to suffer for it: you can get off, you get a hang over and look and feel like **** the next day. You don't look like Ritter does: attractive and energetic. It needs to be made believable.
    My advise would be to take a look at Kinsey Millhone who makes a far more convincing PI than Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones does. It might not be noir, but at least she is a more original character with a more believable personality and background..

    I give it a five also because it irks me that a lesbian relation is shown in the context of adultery. You can't resist equating a LGTB relation with immorality, can't you?    … Expand

    I've only a few episodes left to watch but for some bizarre reason choose anything over watching it to its conclusion. Shame really, maybe the Daredevil built my expectations too much but feeling consistently left down here. Good acting, decent story but feels stretched too thinly...

Even the acting of supporting characters is nothing to write home about but then, they are getting any favors from the writers. Almost as draggy as that one in any case. Acting wise it's OK, but it tries to hide the fact that it's a rather tame series by making it far grittier than it in reality is or allows itself to be.

    Spoilers ahead:

    My main criticism is about the quality of writing. I don't really see any. For example the entire series revolves around the premise that Jones is cynical and dark and doesn't care for people. But in fact all of her actions scream the opposite. Rather than working this out, we get served a main character that is unconvincingly harsh. So the usual brooding, misunderstood antihero tropes are tumbling out of the screenwriter's handbook. Case in point is the idea that the antagonist is to be captured alive because of the fate of some random victim of his. A thoroughly unconvincing motive, especially when all the others die by the numbers. And don't get me started on the quasi scifi technobabble they come up with as an explanation for their powers. Marvel never really convinced in that aspect; they seem to have let go completely of any standards in this regard.

    The first few episodes had me confused and hard to understand but then it got better along the way and now I fully understand the story. Some charathers were okay in this show but then got likeable. It is great to re-watch this to pay attention to what you didn't get the first time.

    Last night I saw the first episode and thought it was ok to start. Only after a time it became boring and I had turned it off.
    The actress delivers a good job. It keeps the series still up. The remaining cast is poorly managed.
    But since the first 13 episodes were pulled through it will probably also be a second season. Whyever.

    Interesting and a change from the usual super hero stories. The tone of series reminds me of the Netflix Daredevil series, which is a good thing. If you are expecting a Supergirl style show, this is not it. This is not a family friendly show, but not to over the top. Looking forward to the next season.

    Show with great potential, but terribly cast supervillain killed it. He was meant to be charismatic, but acts like spoiled whiny child all the time. Proves whats widely known, good villain is the hardest role to play. If they got anything similar to Hannibal's Hannibal, it would've been a hit.

    A story that just rolls off the screen with an ease that exceeds the sibling Daredevil effort. Jessica Jones brings an array of textured supporting characters that provide a solid base for the heroin and her nemesis. A binge I shall look back on with undiluted pleasure.

Krysten Ritter is fantastic playing the hard bitten mean reluctant hero to perfection with a storyline that grips from start to finish. Rachael Taylor also gives an outstanding performance as her sister. Great to see women taking strong lead roles with depth and substance.     I think this is a great show. While binge watching isn't my thing it also doesn't fit the show that well. The action sequences are clearly faked and just not good to watch & the over all feel seems to be uninteresting at beat. With this though the characters are great and the dialogue is at beat tolerable.

    An amazing show, but I was not surprised one bit. I had high hopes for the show and it definitely delivered. It was a very dark show, covered important topics, had brilliant performances from Ritter and Tennant, had a great story, score, and cinematography. Very different from Daredevil though and I'm glad it was.

    Best Marvel TV series ever made! Very good writing and plot points are mesmerizing. Brilliant addition to the Marvel universe. Mr Purple was outstanding as a villain that will give you the chills.

    I'm excited for the next few series with the Defenders. Luke Cage, Iron Fist and apparently Hellcat is going to be a part of the team. I did enjoy Daredevil as well.

    When I compare this show to Daredevil (which I liked), it is actually better-paced. Daredevil had several throw-away episodes, but JJ had MAYBE one superfluous epi out of 13. Great show and I can't wait for a second season to brew up as much imbroglio and noir as this one.

    riveting and intense! We loved watching a badass female rock the plot with her one broken life. Loved the anti-hero vibe and the soundtrack is great. Sometimes we were only able to watch 1 episode because it was just too intense

This is a major step forward for Marvel and a major departure from what i consider to be the relatively easy setting of Daredevil. Jessica and Killgrave show a complexity that is hard to capture within 13 episodes, however, this series has done it perfectly.

    The portrayal of Jessica's PTSD and her feelings (mainly of hatred) towards Killgrave was another stunning aspect of the series. Her flashbacks in the first few episodes, as well as the portrayal of her PTSD was executed extremely well, both by Krysten Ritter, the director, and the writers.

    Jessica Jones perfects the mix between the genres of 40's detective film noir, a superhero story, a psychological thriller, and an high intensity drama. I hope for further seasons, and applaud the Jessica Jones team for producing an engaging series that captured me from the first few episodes.    … Expand

Jessica Jones presents a show that can be dry and funny as much as it can be dark and twisted, or sexy and steamy. It isn't without flaws, but those seem to be few and far between. The story is good, the acting rarely falters, though when it does it tends to be with the side characters of the cast, the pace is great from beginning to end. I do think the filming of some of the action could have been better, and in the final few episodes there are a few head scratching choices.    … Expand

    We did it, we hit the best mixture of Superhero/Thriller/Emotional Drama. It's all downhill from here. It isn't getting better than Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones versus David Tennant as Kilgrave, the most terrifying villain to ever hit screens. If Marvel closed up shop now after Jessica Jones, I think we could live with it, except we wouldn't get more Jessica Jones.

Sure; It’s not that action-packed, it’s more dialog-driven (!), and it might not fit everyone, because it can be a bit slow (& contain some plot holes). But it certainly did work for me. Add incredible & fearful fight-scenes, and much subplots to this superhero/detective flick; well that’s Jessica Jones.

    This is the best Marvel product I've ever seen. I'm not too big on superhero movies and shows, I like them enough, but CGI fighting gets old to me. This story could easily stand alone, no support needed from the rest of the Marvel Universe. People who like watching The Hulk fight Iron Man may not care for it, but if you like fantastically-written drama, you'll love this show.

But this Jessica Jones smut went way over the line and made even me feel dirty inside.

    The sad part of it all, is that this show could have been great had the sex and gay scenes been edited out. For instance Jessica Jones acted as if she didn't have powers like it was a normal thing and when it came to fighting, say when she punched someone you couldn't say the person getting punched because the camera would move away and just see the person flying over. Also with that power Jessica Jones, they was a time when they caught Kilgrave and found out that he had a tracking device and Kilgrave's people came to the scene. Jessica Jones couldn't fight them off with that much strength. So I think maybe if some of the things had been done it would have been way better than the rating it has now.… Expand

Cards had a protagonist more interested in being clever, Narcos has a jarring narrator voice-over, and Daredevil has an impossibly heroic and dreamy lead. Jessica Jones has a lead actor who is trying too hard in every scene, she feels like a stage actor trying out tv for the first time and the result is that her mannerisms are too forced and too over the top. The entire supporting cast plays their part with ease, but it's hard to take Jessica seriously when every line is delivered with the snark of a high-school girl.

    That's my beef. But beyond that, the show is good. Like always, Netflix does great work grounding the audience in a life-sized world. The Hollywood studios can keep their special effects and summer blockbusters, because Netflix understands that super-heroes aren't about how many henchmen they dispatch, super-heroes are super for the choices that they make. What begins as a relatively stable premise quickly degenerates into mindless violence and repetitive episodes that do little to build a fulfilling narrative.     There is a great episode in the middle of the series, which explores the psychology and philosophy behind both characters and plot. This one episode is the only episode I can really recommend. The build up to this episode is stretched too long, and the final episodes are awfully inconsistent. The writers even fail to maintain the realism of the everyday world, and the characters begin to fall apart and act hypocritically.

    The concept was a promising one, and some episodes show promise - but often, the conclusion is an explosion and a lot of mindless violence. I cannot understand why this has been so well received.    … Expand

    With a massive difference with DD, it plays more as a thriller that really caught me. Don't know how it will work with the defenders with such distinctive visions that each show have.

    Intriguing; I was skeptical about watching Marvel series but Jessica Jones was something I had never seen before. The acting is phenomenal and the portrayal of the comic characters is different from what I expected, and that is a good thing.

    I loved everything about the show except for the incessant use of the contrived 'goddammit' expletive replacement and Krysten Ritter. Everyone except her was believable. She did not convince as the hard drinking, PTSD suffering lead. Krysten did not deliver the realistic, gritty, charismatic performance this series required. Kilgrave was a great villain.

    Fantastic show. I love the slow burn facet of the show and the fact that the viewer is not beaten senseless by non stop super hero displays and special effects. Ritter and David Tennat are wonderfully cast. The rest of the cast aren't on the same level, but they get the job done. Really surprised by many of the negative reviews. Most critiques seem to indicate a lack of patience and anFantastic show.     It took five episodes for me to get interested--three too many, in these days of television glut. And only after the seventh and eighth did the cruel and clever plot twists (which include graphic torture) become truly gripping. In the early episodes, the pacing was logy and the action muddy, with several subplots that itched to be trimmed or recast.

    Given the otherworldly circumstances, it all moves along quite logically and at a brisk pace that leaves dawdling for dead. There’s no flabby midsection here, just one major development after another. The fight scenes are well-choreographed and frequent. And the twists are imaginative while also being grounded in the grim realities of this ramped-up universe.

    While, at first, the actress may not look like the superhero type, she convincingly gives Jessica a subtle toughness. In a way, the character is the flip side of Supergirl: Jones is a reluctant superhero, a loner who drinks too much and has real human flaws. Yet Ritter gives Jessica a needed likability. The series also boasts a solid supporting cast.
