This show is good, ignore the clueless critics. I find it hilarious that some of the same critics that panned this show gave Luke Cage good or decent reviews when that show was utter garbage. This is probably the 3rd best of the Netflix Marvel shows but its miles ahead of Luke Cage.

This is the best Marvel Series since the KingPin DareDevil one. For sure better than the critically over rated Cage and Jessica Jones. Give it a shot for yourself. The only reason it gets a 9 is because the lead actor is not how I see Danny Rand at all and I've been an Iron Fist fanatic since the Heroes For Hire.

I decided to rate and review, 'cos critics rate this show absurdly low, as is they're hired for such negative reviews.
For me The Iron Fist is deeper than any other superhero tv series.

Iron Fist starts slow, after the 2nd episode I was actually frustrated. However I was really glad I kept with it. This was a fantastic experience for me, I enjoyed it almost as much as Daredevil. It is a different story to the previous series, actually very well crafted, excellently told, the only fault I would give the story telling is that it doesn't cater to well to the ADD audience and isn't highly attentive to pacing. For me this is a huge positive, the characterisation becomes much stronger for it, where the story is paying attention to the lives of the characters it doesn't throw in an action scene just to keep me watching, I get a real feel for who each of them are, and reveals more and plays with my assumptions as I go, revealing things I hadn't realised before.

The casting is very strong in my opinion, the main character Danny Rand is played as a non typical protagonist. He is brilliantly pulled off with child like naivety and innocence but believably kicks ass. I should mention the fight scenes are not the greatest part of the show, I have seen much better in the likes of Daredevil, that's not to say the action isn't fun, it is, it just isn't as impact-ful or artful as DD.
I also think the casting of the secondary characters is as good as the main protagonist, Colleen Wing is excellent and as likable as Danny Rand. There are very few weak performances.

This has left me very excited for the Defenders, Daredevil started me off in love, Jessica Jones was an enjoyable watch, DD season 2 got me excited again, then Luke Cage made me realise these series were being made by very different people. Iron Fist has put me back to how excited I was after Daredevil, it's a great character that will clearly be very different to the previous 3 and is as likable as any of them.

I'm not writing this review in defense of critical reception, however, the ire this series has received is completely unfounded. I wanted to leave my thoughts as follows. *No spoilers below, though I suggest you finish the series yourself before reading any reviews.*

"The Iron Fist" tells a fantastic story and while it does start out somewhat slow, it does a fantastic job of character development for the entire cast. The slow beginning is attributed to explaining Danny Rand (Finn Jones) and his past, bridging the gap to the series beginning. It's an origin story, much like every other Marvel series first season on Netflix.

Some critics had issues with Finn Jones' portrayal of the "Iron Fist" and I can only attribute that to his deliberately scripted naivety flying over their heads. The character has been disconnected from the world for the entirety of his teenage/adult life and entering the metropolitan mecca of New York city is strange to him initially. I thought it was a good representation of those events. He also goes through some powerful character development and ends in a great culmination as the character unravels his mysteries.

The supporting cast of the series is amazing, David Wenham's portrayal of "Howard Meachum" and Tom Pelphrey as "Ward Meachum" steal the series. The dynamic and chemistry between them both is amazing and I found myself just as invested in their character arc, if not more, than that of Iron Fist. Both showed stunning acting capability and should be recognized for their fantastic portrayal.

Jessica Henwick plays "Colleen Wing," the main protagonist's love interest. Some critics have suggested that it follows the same formula as other Netflix series. I however, found their dynamic unique and compelling. Both characters help unravel each-others past and surrounding mystique. It isn't simply thrust into the viewers face, and tells a complex tale with a engaging character arc. I actually found it more unique than that of the other Netflix series.

Jessica Stroup plays "Joy Meachum" and while she doesn't steal the show, she deserves a mention for her formidable acting and plays her role to near perfection. She's a powerful woman dealing with the death of her father while trying to forward the success of the business empire she inherited, leading down twists and turns of complex situations and eventually finding out who she really is inside.

Rosario Dawson reprises her role as "Claire Temple" as well as Wai Ching Ho as "Madame Gao". If you're familiar with previous Marvel series on Netflix you're intimate with both characters. Both play their roles similarly and very well. One criticism of Rosario Dawson's character throughout these series is that she seems to pop up at critical plot points. I do wish they'd introduce her more subtly. However, she ultimately delivers as intended.

There are other supporting members of the cast that play their roles solidly, such as the mysterious Ramon Rodriguez as "Bakuto" and Sacha Dhawan as "Davos." I have nothing but praise for both actors.

The fighting in the series is true to Marvel's style in the Netflix universe, with a touch of Ninja themed combat and more hand to hand violence. I found it enjoyable. It was a nice change from the typical masked warrior with his gadgets. It has more of a human mortal element to it and it had me more personally invested in each fight scene, though as far as "gore" it was toned down in comparison to the other series. In this situation it's probably for the best. The lack of a huge super hero ability and corny costume made me connect more with the character.

The overall plot twists and turns with beautiful character development for the surrounding cast, and the tale that is spun kept me engaged from episode 1 to 13. I was never not entertained, and went into the series actually expecting the worst due to some of the critical reception. However, an engaging story presented itself and left me more than satisfied upon its ending, and I do hope a second season eventually transpires. You might want to resist the urge to binge watch and take in the series at your own pace, I found it more enjoyable that way. I highly suggest viewers give it a try blindly and use freedom of thought when watching. When compared to other Marvel Netflix series it holds up more than satisfactory. I believe most of the negative criticism comes from those not wishing for an "Iron fist' series, and yearning for more of their already familiar heroes or those they desire to be introduced. However, if you can put that past yourself and think of the series objectively you can enjoy the beginning of the "Iron Fist" from start to finish and leave adequately satisfied, and possibly wanting more. If there was another season in the works I'd hardly object. Iron fist was another fantastic edition to Netflix's marvel universe and if you're familiar with the superhero genre it will leave you ultimately pleased and wanting more!

Wow. The critics reviews on this are so far off i don't even know where to start. In fact i won't try to. Watch the show and I can tell you it will not disappoint and is way better than the critics are letting on. Plenty of action, good story and pacing for the most part, and while i would agree that Finn is maybe the weakest actor on the show, it is still really well done.

This is a really good show , A short one but fits the entire back story of the Iron Fist. The show has some twists and turns , but in the end the ending turned out to be cliche. If season 2 starts to make the series more interesting story wise I might consider a 10/10!

I really like this show. It's not as good as Daredevil, but it is definitely worth watching if you enjoy the Netflix Marvel shows. I don't understand all the negative reviews it's getting. I can only imagine it's because Netflix has set the bar so high that critics are expecting absolute show-stoppers with each new series.

I've spent almost 5 months, trying to persuade myself to watch Jessica Jones to the end. I didn't spent so much effort with Luke Cage; it lasted till the first episode. I couldn't disagree more with the negative critic reviews on this show. It's actually been quite good. I still think Daredevil and Jessica Jones is better, but Iron Fist is really enjoyable. I've read the criticisms and the biggest ones I've seen are that the pacing is bad, the storytelling is sloppy, the villains bland and the lead Finn Jones not being convincing. While I understand the last criticism, I disagree with ALL of them.
I found the pacing to be fine, if not better than in Luke Cage (the first half was solid and the second half felt like it dragged in LC). The storytelling is fine. I don't agree with the notion it's a slow grind. Each scene builds layers into the story, from Danny's time in the hospital to his encounter with each "villain." I say "villain" in quotes by the way because Joy, Harold and Ward Meachum each have several layers. I find this no more impressive by the way than in Ward Meachum, portrayed by Tom Pelphrey. There is a depth to his character that the actor conveys with subtle facial expressions. I think one of the highlights of the show is Ward Meachum and the simmering resentment you understand his character feels with each episode. As for Finn Jones as Danny Rand. Some people have said he seems more like a frat boy who took a karate lesson. This is intentional. Danny is a well meaning rich boy who tows the line of two worlds, one with spirituality and black-white views on the notion of material wealth, and the other being the elite world in Manhattan. Danny is jovial in his martial arts. At first it seems awkward, until you understand his background. At one point he says he was "trained for an enemy that never came." He has never had to see the real fruits of his labor, the finish line of his training, his purpose. So he's very much a boy with all these abilities with no one to appreciate them, no one to say "WOW, that's why Iron Fist was trained." Not only that, but he spent his life in a monastery longing for a life he so violently lost. The character of Danny Rand is accurately portrayed here, and Finn Jones brings a tenderness that I find endearing. It's a good foil as well for the brooding conflict of Matt Murdock and trauma of Jessica Jones.
One last thing, the combat. I've seen criticism of the fight scenes and while I do agree Daredevil's were better, I think Iron Fist's are quite good. From the trailers it looks like Danny Rand is just playing around. This is intentional. Those you see him fighting were never a threat. They were an exercise and he didn't exert himself. Keep watching. There's a great scene in the second episode where you realize "oh **** Danny Rand can hurt people." His kung-fu background is the explanation for his water-like movements, and it works.
OH, and Jessica Henwick is amazing as Colleen. Her portrayal of a woman with a strict moral code that's slowly crumbling because of her growing displeasure with her circumstances is brilliantly portrayed. She brings such life to the character, and she's a badass.
There are a few issues with the series. The fight scenes could use better camera angles, but they are still quite enjoyable and up to par from what you would expect. There is an awkward "get-to-know-you-scene" in episode 5 that shouldn't occur where it does, but the scenes that follow more than make up for it.

Iron Fist is a story that I don't expect most professional critics to like, since it's central theme is refusing other people's ideas and deciding for yourself. The story is confusing and convoluted and there is little in the way of easy answers. it's not social commentary in the same vein as Jessica Jones or Luke Cage and it's not an underdog story like Daredevil. This is the story of a supernaturally competent warrior who abandons his duty to follow his own path and in doing so enters a world filled with people who lie, use and manipulate him. It's the story of a man out of control and floundering for purpose and meaning.

In short, it's very much like normal life, minus the mysticism, martial arts and conspiracies. ...and ninjas.

Danny Rand is off-kilter and filled with rage and doubt. He doesn't understand how ugly and filled with lies the world is. With each betrayal he becomes angrier and less focused, and like the man-child he is, he is unable to process these emotions because in K'un-Lun he was taught to bury their emotions instead of deal with them.

I love the story, it speaks to the basic duplicity of American society and the ease with which we lie to one another. It doesn't challenge social norms, it exposes them for the sometimes horrible things that they are.

Compared to Luke Cage, it has a similar rate of plot development (aka slow), and gives good insight into lack of morality in the corporate world, in the same way that Luke Cage gives insight into the African-American community in Harlem. Analyzing the show on its own, it has good fight scenes, especially given the fact that the actor had to do it instead of a stunt double (since he's not a masked hero). The show gives the main character a good moral compass, and gives a unique story of how he accustoms himself to the modern world and to certain human emotions which he was forbidden from expressing, mainly love. I think most critics bashed this show because they want to see less white leads, even though the majority of the U.S. is white. Unlike critics, I see the good in shows, and this show has a lot of it. 1) Actual moral grey. Yes, I know the punisher killed people, but he only kills BAD GUYS. Having villains who can be reasonable and even sympathetic contrasted with heroes who screw up is just more interesting to me, and Iron Fist does a better job of that than any of the previous series.

    2) Good characterization. Every person in the story has believable motivations and takes reasonable actions to further those goals. None of that "I'm going to destroy the world because I'm eeeeviiiiillll" nonsense.

    3) For the love of god, this wasn't suppose to wrap up Danny's story in a neat little bow. The Hand are going to be the major villains the Defenders fight against. Obviously there's going to be more to come in his character arc, so he's not going to finish dealing with his demons here.

    4) Ninjas. You can hate on it all you want, but I thought the fight choreography was just as good as Daredevil.

    5) Acting. In addition to the returning cast that we love from the other shows, I thought Finn Jones did a credible job, and Jessica Henwick was FANTASTIC as Colleen. Supporting cast was solid too.

    6) Diversity. I liked the wide variety of characters and culture presented in the show. I find it amusing to see people complaining about how the characters aren't fitting into their neat little ethnic boxes like they're supposed to. Why? Is it bad for people to adopt other cultures as their own?

    7) Character growth. Arguably, Danny didn't change that much, and I can see why that would annoy Iron Fist fans, but every other major character in the season went through complete arcs, which is nothing short of amazing. As someone who wasn't a fan of the Iron Fist before this show, I'm just as interested in the Beechems and Colleen as I am in the titular character.

I don't know. To each their own. My order of favorites right now is: Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, Luke Cage. I'm looking forward to the Defenders.

Well before it came out Iron Fist was being attacked for 'white washing' and everyone should have known that mainstream media outlets would never give the show the same applause it gave to Luke Cage's BLM friendly storyline. Nonetheless, the degree to which critics are attacking the show is still surprising. 3 out of 10? That's ridiculous. It may not be the best of the recent Marvel wave but its still well acted, with likeable leads and plenty of action. If you really disliked the story you could perhaps stretch to a justifiable 5/10 but any lower than that would be almost impossible to justify in the same way that the show clearly doesn't deserve a 9 or 10. There'S a lot of things that could have been done better, most importantly for me, the fight choreography. Given the premise the fights scenes needed to stand out and pack a real sense of danger and force. As it is they are simply serviceable where they could have been awesome. It is a missed opportunity and likely disappointing for fans of the character. But this only means that the show fails to be a 'great' show, not that doing so makes it skip several grades straight to bad. Thankfully I think most fans of genre entertainment now know that its the fan score rather than the critic score which carries most weight (tbh do critics carry any weight anymore?). Expand
