It has all the things I'd like in a show but none of the energy to hold them together.

Somehow, in its first two episodes, Agent Carter muddies this structure up so sufficiently that it does not even deliver its rote pleasures, as diminished as they may be.

After two hours of Agent Carter this week, you're left with lots of mumbo-jumbo that doesn't add up to much more than an excuse for Peggy Carter to strain her nylons while jumping off moving cars.

Between seeing Carter trick the men of the show - which isn't much of a feat given how big sexist drooling chumps they are - and CarterBetween seeing Carter trick the men of the show - which isn't much of a feat given how big sexist drooling chumps they are - and Carter manipulating her boss into sending her home from work because she claims she is on her period, I'm really not impressed. Menstruation jokes and the main character making out with a criminal to trick him doesn't seem fitting. Not for this supposedly strong and clever woman who refuses to play by the men's rules (she in fact does that very thing through the entire pilot).

This show is sexist in its very claim to have anything to do with feminism, and there is an abundance of shows with actually compelling and well-written female leads, sans using low-cut skirts as a secret weapon and menstruation jokes for cheap laughs.

Agent Carter is a fun noir, mystery adventure with a smart story about how women weren't respected in the 1930's. And if you enjoyed moviesAgent Carter is a fun noir, mystery adventure with a smart story about how women weren't respected in the 1930's. And if you enjoyed movies like the Rocketeer then you will definitely enjoy this show. Watching the Flash followed by Agent Carter or Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. makes for a great night of tv. If you're not watching both in a row or just this. You're missing out. Full Review »
