This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. TLDR: Had potential, but politics make it something other than lost in space.

First of all, the Robinson family was all white, but above all, they worked together as a family. In this version, those facts are contradicted simply for garbage PC/SJW purposes.

The father, John Robinson, is depicted as a bad person, but the mother, Maureen Robinson, is the fearsome righteous leader. Maureen Robinson is a scientist - she is not a do it all modern useless feminist that bosses everyone around despite her lack of knowledge in engineering and leadership. Conversely, if we want to briefly stick to their modern story, John Robinson has military experience and has the leadership-like attitude, but is constantly challenged by his wife who apparently is a walking encyclopedia that can do literally everything.

Will Robinson is supposed to be a genius, but you don't get that at all. You get a touch of his potential throughout the movie, but he is supposed to posses great intelligence which greatly exceeds his entire family.

As for the diversity token, Judy Robinson, like usual let's all hate the cis-white male because reasons that aren't true to the original story. The father was gone and now he's back, but she is too stubborn to show her care for her father.

Let's carry on about forced diversity. Mr Smith isn't actually a man.... no. It's a woman. Another contraction to add to the fiery mess of a tv show.

I also didn't find the kids annoying, except for maybe Penny a little; she was definitely the weakest in terms of character development and in terms of useful skills. My biggest problem with the series was a few of the situations which make no sense. Either the situations are implausible or the characters make choices that are hard to believe intelligent people would make. There are a solid 3-4 of these at least and they all really break immersion. The show is pretty enjoyable otherwise. I'm really disappointed that other reviewers have criticized the diversity of the cast or the presence of strong women. These are great qualities for a film to have. The family is believable (many real families are blended, have half or step siblings) and I disagree that the men are weak. Not every man prefers a weak woman. The parents in the show are both strong and that really gives their marriage a partnership feel. Expand

Dr Smith absolutely ruins this series. The character is so cliché which becomes really annoying. Very unfortunate as the other characters were developed reasonably well. Don West is great.

Writers, storytellers need to do much better. If you can forgive the often sloppy storyboard and mechanics sometimes it is good, only sometimes. Not so much because of the newer special effects but more for the story and character development. Not as much cheese as the original(just enough to make it familiar to us old timers) and a little more serious. I like that. Makes it feel like a more mature version. Then again we are talking about 50 years of writing differences that shows how much the times have changed. Now that the first season has pretty well established the characters in this telling, I cannot wait to see where the series goes next. I would score this a 10 but I felt too much time was spent on Will and too little on the sisters. I await anxiously for the second season. Expand

Yes, that is the whole premise of crash landing a family on a hostile planet after their transport to a new world got attacked. They should be in danger all the time - and that's is something they get right. I think some of the family dramatics gets a little overdone - but not to the point where I cringe at it. There are a lot of complaints about Parker Posey's villainous character Dr. Smith. I personally think it's the best written character on the show - she's unpredictable, cunning, conniving, an yet there is a little glimmer of good you want to root for but can't. She's the character metaphor for the planet they are on. Danger! That's what it's all about when your Lost in Space.

Accurate science is seldom exciting and spectacular enough to base a weekly adventure TV show upon. Lost in Space generally attracts generations of viewers interested in advanced science and engineering. So let's forgive the show for an occasional misconception in the service of an epic adventure.

Every Science Fiction series and film has major flaws relative to science and physics.

Barring a very unlikely demolition of Einstein's theory by revolutionary discoveries in quantum physics, warp drive and jumping to light speed can't exist. Physicists of today understand the space-time continuum rather well, and there is a very good reason to think that no object can move faster than the speed of light.

Earth is constantly bombarded by particles from space. These particles, called cosmic rays, hit our atmosphere and produce the gamma-ray light high above the Earth. The atmosphere blocks harmful cosmic rays and other high-energy radiation from reaching us on the Earth's surface.

Unfortunately, as spaceship velocities approach the speed of light, interstellar hydrogen H, although only present at a density of approximately 1.8 atoms/cm3, turns into intense radiation that would quickly kill passengers and destroy electronic instrumentation. In addition, the energy loss of ionizing radiation passing through the ship's hull represents an increasing heat load that necessitates large expenditures of energy to cool the ship. A magnetic shield can protect against particles coming from the solar wind, while other kinds of harmful particles, such as high energy gamma rays and X-rays, wouldn't be affected.

In Star Trek communication signals that can travel as fast as the fastest starship. This is just a convenient notion to get messages to Star Fleet and back by the end of a TV show, with no realistic physics behind it.

Light sabers are a genius idea: portable, lightweight, activated with the flick of a switch and oozing cool (at least if you’re a Star Wars fan). To create the saber’s shining blade of light, laser technology seems the obvious choice. Laser produces a highly directional light beam which can be used for everything from etching metal surfaces to eye surgery, so why not battling the dark side? Unfortunately, it’s not as simple as it looks.

Probably the most fundamental issue is that a light saber’s blade needs to stop short after a couple of feet. But a laser beam, just like any kind of light, never just ‘stops’, unless something in its way absorbs or reflects the energy.

What’s more, clashing light saber blades would be impossible – the beams would just pass straight through each other and make for a very boring duel.

So, the bottom line is: Lost in Space is an entertaining combination of real science, imaginary science gathered from lots of earlier stories, and stuff the writers make up week-by-week to give each new episode novelty. The real science is an effort to be faithful to humanity's greatest achievements, and the fanciful science is the playing field for a game that expands the mind as it entertains.

It's fun to imagine what humans could be capable of some day soon. Lots of things to think about and enjoy. i hope more we get to see a second season!

Great show! Less Dr. Smith in show, doesn’t add to the story ! Great CGI!

Uma série satisfatória, à exceção da "Dr." Smith, que parece ser completamente irremediável. Eu quero vê-la morrer numa morte lenta e dolorosa. A história tem os seus altos e baixos, sendo caracterizada pelos seus momentos de tirar o fôlego ( + ) e pelo seu lento desenvolvimento das personagens ( - ).

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. There is my solution for the whole serie: KILL F.. DOCTOR FAKE SMITH.
    Problem solved.
Lost in Space without Parker Posey will be very best. Otherwise you can put Parker Posey in the robot. I will it. Yes.

It’s entertaining, you have to suspend your disbelief for large parts of it, but overall enjoyable.

The best thing about this show are the production values. The plot is simple, plays safe and at times corny.

All effects are very well done, and the series is beautiful to see. But the plot is much more a drama than scientific fiction. There were a lot of opportunities to explore in 1st season (e.g. the discovery of a new world, new fauna and flora) and yet they focused too much in personal and familiar drama.

The story is utter rubbish. Nearly zero substance to anyone's motives, and with enough plot-holes that is looks more like a hole than a plot. The acting is substandard but production is commendable otherwise. The CGI is patchy in places but mostly well-done. This Sci-Fi is more fiction than science. Hoping they would get their **** together for the 2nd season. I'll give it one more chance.

The series caught my attention long enough to finish the pilot. I'm still undecided whether or not I'll finish the series.

Posey plays the role with a gravity that encourages the show to orbit her, eccentrically, whenever she’s in view. The dynamic exemplifies the awkwardness of this muddled update. Charging in several directions at once, it asks the viewer to imagine efforts to secure a proud future for humankind, but it seems most vital when painting depraved schemes to survive.

Oddly enough, it’s the robot who proves most engaging. ... What really makes the robot stand out is its complexity. It’s mysterious, both in its origins, intentions, and inability to over-communicate. The human characters don’t earn the same mystery.

The thrill of exploration, or the examination of family dynamics, never feels like it arises organically from the action, in the way it might have on the show’s most obvious forebear that isn’t its direct predecessor: Lost.
