These early episodes have some of the usual growing pains first-year comedies go through as the creative team figures out what’s funny about each actor and character; they’ve already solved McDermott/Dave, so you have to wait to see if the others can catch up.

The comedy in LA to Vegas is inconsistent.

Like much television comedy, and like the flight it portrays, L.A. to Vegas has a routine, milk-run reliability. The trip is relatively free from turbulence, there are some things to see (and treats from the service cart if you’re lucky), and you are back on the ground almost before you know you’re flying. There is something to be said merely for not crashing.

[It] doesn’t feel slapped together, but after you’ve seen three episodes, you may legitimately find yourself wondering if the show has legs--or wings, as it were--for the long haul.

With jokes about strippers, quickie weddings and niche conventions, the show certainly doesn’t have a sophisticated or original take on Vegas. Its take on air travel is slightly fresher, but for the most part it occupies the same sitcom level as the budget airline for which its characters work.

The plane's captain is just wrong for the role, or maybe the script is mis-written for him. Either way, I've started to skip past his scenes, as they add little to the show.

Maybe it will work better than The Guest Book (not difficult to do) but I doubt it. The premise seems too contrived.

I'm going to watch a couple more weeks with the hope it improves.

Hilarious so far and just the fact that they had Dylan McDermott and Dermot Mulroney together in one episode is next level stuff. Full Review »
