It has had a start similar to that of Game of Thrones Season 1 and can see how the actions made in this season will have major implications in the future and cast a long shadow without referring to the books or giving any spoilers.

It was a masterful hand that HBO have played here because they are so confident about their show, the writing, the dialogue and acting. Even after a couple of time jumps that as viewer requires you to readjust. The CGI has been good, mainly the dragons and I am very exiting to see more.

I believe this show will improve and am fully invested.

To be honest, I am watching it, because I want to be back in the world of Westeros. I can't speak for anyone else. But, when I rewatch season 1 of Game of Thrones, I see a significant difference in Quality writing and acting.

One would think, that the new series would at least, up their level of writing and acting. But, comparing both season 1 of Game of Thrones with what I see from season 1 of House of the Dragon, Game of Thrones is far superior.

I am not a fantasy genre fan. I am just a casual watcher, who likes to watch good shows and movies. So far, I have yet to see anything from House of the Dragon, that would suggest that it's better than Game of Thrones. In any way.

I am not trying to bad-mouth the series. This is not my intention. I am making an observation.

I am quite sure, that there are people who love what they are seeing, from House of the Dragon. To each his own.

Again. I will watch House of the Dragon, because I enjoy the world of Westeros. Hopefully, HBO has more spinoffs coming out soon. But, House of the Dragon is OK. It's not GREAT.

I will give credit to some of the actors, editors and visual effect crew who must have had a very difficult time putting this together.

The actors clearly had a difficult script and plot to work with and look like they genuinely tried their best. The screenwriting, direction, scripting and plot are laughable at best. The visual effects vary dramatically between scenes and episodes, with some being stunning and immersive and others appearing more like a first draft edit. I'm not a GoT fanatic yet this was a let down.

The characterisation is excellent. Matt Smith and Paddy are wonderful in their respective roles as Daemon and Viserys. Rhaenyra is likeable; that thing she pulled in episode 2 is epic. The thing Daemon pulled in episode 3 is epic. Can't wait to see more epic moments.

I am changing my score from 9 to 10 because of the review bombing by Amazon shills. Just look at some of the 0-scorers, this is their first ever review.

Game of Thrones lie me 1 to 7 seasons , I am not going to waste my time on this .

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I thoroughly enjoyed this show until the 'time jump' in episode 6. Two of the central characters were suddenly swapped out for people we don't recognize. Several characters aged except for Criston (who looked exactly the same), making the transition more difficult. There is no art or deft in this move to adulthood. 5 episodes of developing characters wiped out by an inept swap of new actors in episode 6 ruined the series. Expand

Instead of battles of kingdoms and realm-changing decisions, we watch the typical boring story of a rebellious child vs a dutiful father. With the biggest intrigue about who **** whom. Boring to watch and lost all of the uniqueness of GoT.
Another problem - the lack of interesting characters, locations, scenes and even costumes. Most elements are boring and tasteless, and not many in general, compared to the overwhelming diversity and style of GoT.
Upd I saw a lot of negative around Valerians, but actually, they look at least stylish and interesting compared to other empty, dull characters.
In the end, the series is not only significantly worse than GoT but bad in general and not worth watching

I see a lot of reviews with low scores due to "wokeness." As someone who is opposed to woke politics being needlessly injected into entertainment, I am surprised to see so many people saying this series is woke because I have not noticed any modern political agendas in this series, and at no point have I felt like I was being lectured by the writers. Similar to the first 4-5 seasons of GoT, this series almost solely focuses on the politics of Westeros and Esteros, and the politics of the world are what made GoT and make this series so enjoyable. The dialogue and acting are excellent. So far, the first 5 episodes felt like they were utilized to set up big events later in the season. The fighting scene was great, and the dragons look very cool too. I recommend ignoring those labeling this show as "woke" and watching this series. I can tell George was heavily involved, because the story is well-crafted and does not pull any punches! Expand

I don't know where the hordes of people giving it 10/10 ratings and slobbering over it like it's the greatest thing ever created come from. This show is nothing like Game of Thrones. Game of Thrones (at least for the first four seasons) was solid, substantial. This instead feels like a very cheap imitation.

The biggest reason House of the Dragon fails is lack of original lines from GRRM.
Every conversation feels like a childish attempt to recreate the charm of GoT, but falls completely flat. Five episodes in and I don't feel connected to any character at all. Or the story! The story itself is extremely boring. The showrunners, for some reason, are determined to shoehorn modern age woke ideas into George's world. Which is completely ridiculous and will never work in George's Westeros, where people actually have brains.

The characters are being unnecessarily distorted, to the point where they become nothing like how they are in the original book. They do and say things completely out of character and then partially revert back to their "book selves". Which makes them incoherent and even stupid. All these changes just to force woke stuff into the show. The show seems squarely fixed on the "Woman good and wise. Man bad and good-for-nothing" stance, which is laughably ridiculous.

The casting itself is poor. Matt Smith is NOT a good choice for Daemon. No chance. And the black Velaryon thing speaks for itself. (And no, the Velaryons are not black in the books. This isn't even up for debate)

And don't get me started on the senseless violence and nudity. The showrunners seem to think that these are the things that made GoT great. Needless to say, they have gotten it horribly wrong.

And for a show of such huge budget, the CGI is pretty bad. The aerial scenes of King's Landing, for example, look like screenshots from games from 2010.

This show has no substance, no soul, and no story.

Forget about Rings of Power, this is the show you want to see.

I'll be honest. I had some reservations about how well would House of the Dragon be capable to deliver the world of George R. R. Martin. And deliver it does.

Not only does it feel like Game of Thrones, but the cast is for the most part very well chosen. With most actors and actresses, delivering solid performances and being capable of pulling us into their world, their lives, their intrigues, their agendas. But above all making the viewer care about those characters.

Not that many shows can claim to be able to do that. But this one can. And it's good because after season 8 of Game of Thrones, the story needed to be focused on something else that makes us forget about that season.

And although the fall of House Targaryen is something we know it's going to happen no matter what, at least the show is being done well enough that even knowing that, doesn't really matter. It's a show that has proven to have what it takes to be seen and appreciated.

My only hope right now is that the success doesn't go to their heads, and they start making rookie mistakes. Game of Thrones lost the race in the last meters of the race, so I really hope that House of the Dragon doesn't make the same mistake.

Other than that three episodes in, and this show has come out strong and with enough fire to burn long and wide, instead of burning bright and fading just as fast.

This show is definitely a must see. And those that don't watch it will only lose.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The "bury your gays" trope is enough for me to give a show a failing grade. The example of it in this show was one of the more brutal I've seen. Moreover, it was completely unnecessary to furthering the plot. The cast and visuals are stunning, so there's that, but I'm done with this show. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This show is SO disappointing, I'm not sure if it can even be saved (NOTE: This review was submitted after Season 1, Episode 4), and this is coming from somebody who absolutely loved the GOT series so much that he read the books -- and I'm not normally a book reader. The biggest problem: There isn't a single remotely likable character. Not one. I mean, in GOT, right off the bat, you took a liking to all the Starks, Jon Snow, Tyrion, Daenerys, Jorah, et al., and even respected the deceitful, ambitious climbers like Varys and Littlefinger, who exchanged exhilarating barbs many a times, as well as the morally bankrupt, uber power-hungry Tywin, Cersei, Joffrey, and to a lesser extent, Jaime. The second biggest failing is the dialogue is just so "meh." Whereas I used to marvel at the cleverly written interplay between characters, this just feels like we're getting B-list writers for the prequel and/or folks who are just there to collect a paycheck. On top of all that, then you've got the mega cringe non-stop incest and on-screen adult/child sex scenes because, ya know, Hellywood gotta Hellywood and they're clearly using social engineering to make pedophilia mainstream. Disgusting. In fact, for the mainstream reviewers/critics/talking heads who gave this show high marks, kinda makes you wonder about them, but I digress. In sum: If you were hoping for a prequel that's even half as good as the original GOT series, I, for one, believe you will be sadly disappointed. Expand

I think the major issues with the series are it is not as Epic as GoT. There is no suspense, there is no real villain, there is only one point of view, what happened to multiple view points and characters. It runs like a court theater drama, with story focused on king and his immediate family. It is unbelievably scaled down watered down version of GoT. It is clearly done with much smaller budget. I dont think we will see the 2nd season. GRR Martin is a lazy guy, who didnt finish GoT, naturally he has no time to write a proper novel for this timeline, let alone a script to base it on a novel. On top of this, none of the characters are likable or interesting so far. HBO has to understand they cannot recrate GoT with a documentary mini series style tv series, this thing is closer to British Royal theater than it is related to GoT. unfortunately so far it is a hard pass. Lost cause really as we all know how this story ends.

9/13 Update: There are 458 votes for this show vs 1721 votes for rings of power. Approximately 1500 more negative votes and excess votes indicates that show is getting heavy review bombing and artificially inflated. Given that two shows are equally popular. i think house of dragon is a an unfortunate failure as a fantasy show, slowly derailing towards royal family soap opera drama. 4th episode was a disgrace as nothing but a soft por n, so low this show got now. i have lost hope really dropping score

So far there are 3 race swapped Targaryens. The problem with these characters are not the colour of their skin it's their acting ability. When you need to tick a box and choose people for diversity you then limit your pool of actors you can choose from. We have seen poor acting time and time again when they are just a tick box choice. We need to move on from this and choose the best person for the job regardless of skin colour. Needing more diversity is a twitter trend by a bunch of weirdos who just want to argue and create conflict. Onto the positives. Compared to the rings of power House of dragon succeeds in many areas. It has some really good casting and likeable characters. Matt Smith as Daeman is the main standout for me. He is fantastic. Milly Alcock who I have never heard of before is another standout. Fabian Frankel as Sir Criston is a good side character. There is actual character development in play here. Compared to rings of power the writing is night and day. It's engaging and makes you want to keep watching. The show is not perfect but it has suprised me and I will happily continue watching Expand

Not in the least that every male character is either trying to simp his way into power, or is a toxic sociopath wanting to murder, steal and lie his way to the top. There is a level of incompetence here that suggests that the writers hate men, despite - in some cases - being them.

By contrast, all the female characters are powerful, charismatic and constantly fighting against the male gaze, the demands of the patriarchy, and plots by those women foolish enough to actually fall in love with a man.

What IS done well, is the political intrigue, most of the costumes, the CG for the dragons, and the scenery.

Overall, I'm interesting to see where this goes, and am willing to give it a chance to develop. In most aspects it covers the lore pretty well, for the most part maintaining the narrative integrity of the universe in which it is set.

Writers really need to start developing more interesting male characters. Completely sick of the trope that we are all sociopathic, self-serving, women haters unless we can control them - in which case they become tolerable.

I got to admit I am pleasantly surprised. I expected nothing and I got a fantasy show with interesting plot, very good character development, really great acting and, well, dragons!

As someone who loves fantasy, this show is nice refreshment to the genre. The plot is interesting, it has development, things are set in motion. It is also what one can expect from a show set in the world of A Song of Ice and Fire, brutal, unforgiving, honest in what it wants to tell the audience. The characters are gray, some more than others, they all have good sides and flaws, and their development is really interesting to follow.

So far it is great and I hope it will continue to do so.

Costume and set design is fantastic and the CGI is good, although some of the environments look obviously CGI, buts that’s minor.

House of the Dragon is worth a watch and I’m looking forward to the other episodes.
