If you've been craving a layered, heartfelt, sweet romance, Heartstopper is definitely the show for you — and if it doesn't make you feel some degree of happiness, you're probably dead inside.
-
Heartstopper matures its protagonists (and therefore itself) in season two. It remains a dreamy must-watch that’s neither theatrical nor over-the-top, making it a great antidote to plenty of other coming-of-age TV shows. So do yourself a favor and carve out four hours for another non-stop binge.
-
“Heartstopper” is for teens (and those who still recall what those days felt like). Let it be for them. Blissful and euphoric, “Heartstopper” is a reminder that life is about living for yourself.
-
This season, Charlie and Nick's relationship evolves effortlessly through eight episodes and allows them to explore their developing identities and sexuality, troubles with mental health and eating disorders, and tense familial drama.
-
If you adore these characters as much as I do, Heartstopper Season 2 is, at times, an excruciating watch. But regardless of tone and subject matter, scenes remain laced with love, and Oseman’s world is brimming with heartwarming, romantic, joyous moments that will make you melt.
-
“Heartstopper” is a gem, and remains perhaps the most uplifting, refreshingly optimistic and utterly charming series currently running on TV or streaming platforms.
-
Season 2 of “Heartstopper” recaptures that feeling of queer joy, but with just a touch more introspection and thoughtfulness.
-
What it does is offer a kind of entry-level queer-world starter kit for people who aren’t quite ready for It’s a Sin. It’s television with the guts to be radically sensitive, and that never gets old.
-
Expanding on what made it so great in its first run, Heartstopper season two is an impeccable depiction of adolescent joy and queer love.
-
It is richer, more assured and benefits from throwing its net wider. It is aimed at younger audiences, and that is never forgotten, but it is more subtle than it first appears, while remaining a sweet and lovely thing.
-
Holding back where other shows might lean into melodrama. It’s all the better for it, too. While there’s a space for sleaze and sensationalism on TV, Heartstopper is a reminder that, sometimes, life can be sweet.
-
Heartstopper is, quite winningly, not a show about panic or rashness or other dramatic swings. Its pacing is deliberate, its emotions awfully measured for a show about young people experiencing fits of passion.
-
A healing serum in box set form. Lest fans were worried, there is no drop in quality. If anything it has grown in self-assurance.
-
While Locke and Connor’s chemistry is so strong that you wouldn’t blame the series for leaning on it even more heavily, the other actors are strong, too. And their various entanglements are interesting in their own right, and present a wide enough view of the LGBTQIA+ experience that it never feels like Heartstopper is hitting the same beats over and over again.
-
They went to great efforts to build on what came before. This is quite simply a more considered and better-paced season of television, which could certainly convert others who found the first outing overly simplistic.
-
Heartstopper is strongest when it ditches the preaching and simply immerses us in the teenagers’ raw experience.
-
Heartstopper is a genuine delight, and the perfect weekend watch to add some sunny jubilance to your summer afternoon.
-
Heartstopper’s sophomore season expands its scope while staying true to Season 1’s youthful spirit of first crushes, heartbreak, and the complicated transition into adulthood.
-
Both [the first and second] seasons are full of soaring earnestness and palpable caution, two instincts that reflect familiar teenage impulses. But season two can’t always balance them with the same sense of ease that glowed out of the first season. There’s more caution in season two.
-
Affectionate, blunt, caring, didactic, edgeless, flamboyant: Heartstopper runs the alphabet of adjectives, but never quite makes it all the way to good.
