Great News may never be the successor to “30 Rock” many hoped it would be, nor the second coming that its sophomore season bluntly tries to take by force, but there are enough laughs to match the talent involved. The jokes are a lot stronger than last season. Briga Heelan is a treasure and a master of delivery. Is it a poor man's 30 Rock, sure, but it's still funny.

The first season of Great News had its issues but generally made for an enjoyable watch and, with all the recent goings on in the world of media and politics providing plenty of material, this second season is able to build upon it and again provide some fairly consistent laughs. Mildly entertaining in the most predictable ways. Very little smart writing or acting found here, The characters are poor stereotypes of stereotypes we’ve seen before, so nothing rings true or is of any great interest.
