Summary: Sidney Chambers is vicar of Grantchester and a much-admired parish priest. In the first episode, Sidney has just spent a glorious morning in the company of the woman with whom he is secretly in love, Amanda Kendall. Racing to church, Sidney arrives just in time to conduct the funeral of a local solicitor - a death which appears to be the result of suicide. Sidney comforts the man's young widow Hildegard Staunton, but is soon called away by the glamorous Pamela Morton. Pamela reveals that she was having an affair with the dead man and has reason to believe he was murdered. Sidney starts to investigate and soon comes up against the grumpy local DI, Geordie Keating - who does not appreciate the vicar sticking his oar in. As Sidney begins to uncover evidence that the suicide was staged, his own world is shaken apart when he receives news that Amanda has got engaged.… Expand
