Unfortunately, only mediocrity.

why? It depends on the fact that only Sheen and Tennant convince. Episode 2 is stinkly-bent and is of no use. The humour is the same but the actors don't fit. I will look at the rest and then keep reporting as

When Sheen and Tennant are present it is genuinely entertaining but it is let down by almost unbearable child actors and the puzzling casting of Jack Whitehall.

While a well made production the problem is that the show cannot decide what it wants to be.

It has the feel of a kids show but its very inappropriate for children. It come soff as a comedy but the jokes are incredibly dry and flat. It has some dramatic elements but it never gets serious about any of it.

It might make for a great adaptation of the source material but as for a modern show it is boring, unfunny, and lacking depth. Would do better off watching American Gods or even Lucifer. This series ends up being roughly in the middle. Not quite funny and not quite thought provoking. I would almost be upset had it not been for there only being six episodes and knowing I have spent time in much worse ways.

Honestly if summer 2019 had not been so terrible of a TV season this would be much worse scored, but having so little to compete with it makes for middle of the road filler show. While a second season might improve it, It will likely struggle more in a better season.

the show had a great set up. I loved the intro, the way it shows history was funny. once I got to the end of the last episode I found it very anticlimactic, but I guess that's pretty much the point

The plot is shallow and the characters in the series have almost no agency over it in the first place. This isn't bad when David Tennant and Michael Sheen are on screen, but the other characters feel entirely out of place. The best part about this show is the fact it's a miniseries. It's quick to get through and doesn't overstay it's welcome like many American shows of similar quality. It's certainly good enough to watch, especially if you just want to experience the banter between the two main characters. Expand
