Hilarious. The story is a bit slow in places, but the quick paced dialogs that go from 90s puns to current day popculture quibs in the blink of an eye easily make up for that. The 4 leads are very well cast and play off each other well, each putting their stamp on their very different characters.

Before misogynists tank the score, let me just say that this is the balm of goofy joy we need. Renee Elise Goldsberry is the clear breakout star and Paula Pell is a riot. The shades of 30 Rock and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt are welcome, even if it's not as effective as either of those shows.

Such a great show. Really clever and incredibly quick writing. The pilot alone has as many jokes as some sitcoms have in half a season. The cast simply couldn't be better either. Highly highly recommended.

Extremely funny characters, great music, amazing comedy timing, tons of representation. The references to the 90s are spot on as well. Sara Bareilles is a brilliant musician and although her character isn't meant to be the funniest, she keeps up with Paula Pell and Busy Philipps pretty well, once again proving she deserved all her 3 Emmy and 7 Grammy nominations. And unlike what the misogynists say, Tina Fey did not write for this show, she was the producer, so just wake up. Life is political, this is 2021, do not expect a show to be dumb just because the entire main cast is female. Girls5eva is hilarious, goofy and clever. Expand

The eight-episode season is full of beautifully honed jokes, absurdities, acute commentary (as well as some more similar to the decidedly unacute, defensive moments about “woke” criticism and contemporary issues the previous Fey/Carlock collaborations contained), sight gags and song and dance numbers. ... It is, as I say, a joy.

“Girls5eva” is spawned from the Fey model: accessibly absurdist, riddled with clever zingers, thick with critique. The cast makes this a fun binge.

Bareillis, who worked on the scores for the musicals “Waitress” and “SpongeBob SquarePants,” contributes some songs, too, and amid a lot of clever, outsized exaggeration, her easygoing presence grounds this promising series nicely.
