Modern story-telling doesn't do enough tragedies. A massive ensemble cast that still somehow gets you to invest in most of the characters.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Firstly this contains spoilers Secondly I'm not familia with the source material so I won't be discussing or compare the first season to any of the books by comparison Game of thrones is a show I've wanted to get in to for a long time but simply never got around to it and with a lot of time between seasons towards it end I simply decided s to wait until it's finished before getting around to it Now the how shal I say this Viking/med evil times is not my favourite error to utilise on film or tv nothing against it just not for me game of thrones changed that Game of thrones ability to manage multiple plots a fairly big array of characters shift in perspective through its many characters and killing of who is arguably its main character right before the season final is impressive ballsy and intense and the action is off the chain and some of it just gory as **** I also like how it plays on morals right and wrong war and it's effects o and I just get to say it the Lannister's are ass wholes. The plot is really good and does not let you understand the story or the suspense till the end. Make it absolutely clear that you will be in dark 60% of the runtime. The ending is absolutely crazy and a bit complex. The performences were great and the cinematography and the overall style of the film is good. Now this might not be a film for everyone especially, when it comes to violence (Theres a lot). But the heart of the movie is not that. You cannot watch this movie if you don’t have a tolerance to torture, grief, bloody scenes, violent weapons and overall depression and loneliness.
There are some flaws which may or may not bring you down but if you cut that down you will find this movie to be truly outstanding.

Had he finished the work and the quality maintained from the first 4 seasons, this would be considered one of the best, if not the best shows of all time. But Martin bailed and the network, understandably, couldn't match his quality. So GOT will go down as great, but not the GOAT.

Got a 10 since I can name 99 other shows that fall short for each 1 I can name that comes close to how goood this show is.

The first half was too great not to make this a must-watch, and even the second half had its amazing moments, despite all its sins. Storytelling and writing might have declined to disastrous levels, but all other aspects of this show have been impeccable from beginning to end, huge in both quality and quantity, and we'll wait years to see a production work at the level of Game of Thrones. The first four seasons are beautiful and filmed almost verbatim from Martin's original source. If there was an opportunity to evaluate each season separately, I would put tens as the first four.

In the fifth season, the writers began to ignore the original source and allowed themselves a gag, thereby making a big mistake and distorting the plot.

I didn't like the sixth, seventh and eighth seasons at all. They are not filmed from books, represent a gag from the writers and are made solely to please fans.

Therefore, only 5.

The quality of the production, every single aspect, is astounding. In addition to the quality acting and writing, the costumes and locations are beautiful, and transport you to the world of Westeros.

While there are certainly some missteps, they are very few and far between. A story this sweeping and dramatic is bound to have some faults, especially when being adapted from even more sweeping and dramatic books.

HBO has really taken the TV series to another level with this one, as they have been known to do.

First of all, I don't really have any issues with whoever ends up killing the night king, or who ends up in the iron throne and so forth. But I care about good writing execution, which past seasons had and what season 8 lacks. Nothing really makes sense now, so I don't really care what happens anymore. All the history, rich lore, logic, character arc, they all just gone down to the trash. There's no motivation, no reasonable explanation. Things just happen now. Maybe in the finale they'll show the best blacksmith in the 7 kingdoms who crafts the "thickest armours full of holes" for our characters. Maybe s/he will end up in the iron throne. Whatever, D&D can't hold a candle to the world GRRM created. Expand

They also apparently forgot what the map looks like as they just change the locations of places on a whim. As a Star Wars fan as well I can tell the direction Disney is going to take its franchise based on how horribly the quality degraded in this series when they needed to start creating original content and didn’t have the books to go off of. This last season is absolutely abysmal, seriously. Anyone that thinks this new season is good really isn’t paying attention at all and is probably watching it in a bar with their friends shouting anytime someone pulls out a sword. Expand

GOT has been a massive sage involving 7 waring kingdoms and countless characters. To bring all this to an end which would have satisfied all viewers would have been as easy as resolving Brexit in an hour and a bit. It could never satisfy everyone and a compromise had to be found. Electing the saintlike Bran as king of 6 kingdoms was as near as possible the perfect ending. Well done GOT - you will be missed! Expand

GOT, a once intriguing and clever show has been reduced to an eye rolling shambles, complete with vacuous one-liners. Complex adult characters have been purposefully dumbed down, while one-dimensional teenage Arya has been promoted, probably because dumb and dumber figured she didn't require any intelligent nuanced dialogue, of which they have no hope of writing. Where once there was a brilliant plot structure, there is now a sense of nothing making sense, which has nothing to do with subverting expectations and everything thing to do with dumb and dumber being totally out of their depth. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Game of Thrones has been a great show since it's inception with seasons 1-4 being some of the best television in history. Season 8 has taken all the previous seasons work and thrown it out the window with no character's ending meaning anything, and all the previous points of emphasis not even mattering in the end. Jon Snow being Aegon did not matter in the end with seasons of build up towards this reveal, then Bran showing us all Jon Snow was Aegon. Alas in the end it did not matter with Varys writing letters to who knows about Jon's true identity that didn't matter, and absolutely no follow by any of the characters about Jon being Aegon. One last thing is that when Tyrion chooses Bran to be king he mentions that Bran is the three eyed raven and this is a reason for him to be king. How did Tyrion know he was the three eyed raven, and even if he did how do any of the other lords of Westeros know or care what the three eyed raven is. Bran himself hardly understands what it means to be the three eyed raven, with Sansa and Arya being the only characters to me to seem to grasp that the three eyed raven means Bran can see into the past. Game of Thrones has truly set the bar for what a tv show should be. I found season 8 overall to still be highly enjoyable, though I wish they would have taken more time to tie up all the storylines. Many of the problems that the last season had I feel could have been fixed if there had just been a few more episodes to sort everything out. Despite this, I still think Game of Thrones is truly one of the greatest shows to ever grace our screens. I don't think there will be another like it for quite some time. I am always fully immersed in the world of Westeros and I will certainly miss the beauty of the cinematography. The music is always absolutely stellar as well, Ramin Djiwadi is truly a genius. Though the writing may have suffered, the acting certainly didn't. Still a 10/10 for me, despite this most recent seasons flaws. Expand

I cannot recommend a series more than Game of Thrones.

The first 1-5 Seasons are some of the best television ever created, there is a valid reason this show was such a cultural phenomenon, even if the last few seasons drop the ball, and the ball fell. And fell. And fell. And fell...

The characters are compelling hooking you in like a serrated fishing hook. They're the biggest reason this show took off as it did. The writing is smart and clever, well-written characterisation and story, weaving together multiple stories and tons of charters seamlessly. The soundtrack is mind-blowing I mean holy **** From intense action scores to quiet more ambient moments the music over-delivers, capturing feelings that other modern fantasy doesn't

The set pecies and effects are beyond convincing. To be fair, there are few outlandish establishing shots. But those there are (Like the wall and King's landing) Are so well done, shot in real locations in Spain and Scotland for its castle settings and Iceland for it's more frozen moments. From the blood that would poor for a finger cut to a titanic wall of ice all is done so well that it never breaks any suspension of disbelif.

Conclusion:
Even if you're not a fantasy fan, I cannot recommend a show more. The hour-long episodes might seem daunting at first but they feel like 6 minutes when you start watching, wanting more and wishing for the show to never end. However, the last few seasons drop the ball. Never from a technical level but from a writing level, no doubt you've probably heard of the criticism from Season 7 & 8 where the season is at it's absolute worst. Season 6 has it's bad moments and stories, but nothing compares to 7 & 8.
They fail to keep up with the realism of the fantasy series (weird thing to hear I know) as plot holes are more frequent here than anything I've ever watched. Characters being flanderised and simplified so that they make stupid, outlandish decisions and the character complexity that was present is now all but gone. The show makes characters back peddle their arc's, they make characters have no purpose anymore, and they have this weird tendency to have the more popular characters be around for no reason at all, just to try to win more awards, all in service of the shadow of what this show was. But I'm sure when you get hooked from the first episode, you'll be excited and enthralled watching Seasons 1-5 but lose that love as the show gets full of itself.

George R.R. Martin's rolling in his grave, and he is not even dead, if you liked season 1-7 because of the story and acting, you won't like season 8 at all.. unless if you are superhero/action movies fan.. it won't matter then.. you gonna love it..

This is impossible to review as a complete series, easy to review as a single season. Nothing makes sense, entire armies, incompetently commanded as they are, just respawn between episodes, characters act completely contrary to the way the show has portrayed them for years, character arcs are ignored, bungled or usurped by other characters and the dialog sounds as if it's been written by an eight year old.

The first four seasons of this show is some of the best TV ever made. The last four are like the original show slowly drowning in plot holes, stupid fan service, breaking established rules of the fictional world, incomprehensible actions by the characters in it and everyone becoming stupid and/or mad in order to try and make the increasingly ridiculous scripts make sense.

I could list examples all day. Characters ruined or misunderstood, plot armor removing all tension, stupid lines, pointless shock value instead of good dialog. And particularly awful is the fact that the story contains several prophecies, which are all completely ignored. All that talk was just meaningless babble that you could have skipped as a viewer. And to be completely honest I don't like mystical prophecies in stories. I think they are a cheesy way of doing foreshadowing. Nevertheless they are foreshadowing, and ignoring them reverberates back on the entire narrative, making most of it completely pointless. There is emotion, unless you notice all the plot holes, in which case there is nothing, except perhaps the most pointless story ever told. And the writers of GoT are either too stupid to understand this or they didn't care that they wasted their audiences' time in all the episodes where they referenced these prophecies. And it is bad writing.

But it is so bad here that it almost requires a book-length treatment. But we don't need that. Hundreds of books about writing have already been written. Weiss and Benioff just haven't read any of them. Nothing that happened in the first seven seasons matters at all, because literally the only thought in the writers' heads is to "subvert" expectations, a euphemism for disjointed, crude and unprofessional writing. Whatever the audience expects, perhaps because it makes sense based on seven seasons of development, must not happen under any circumstances. Rather the absolute least likely thing, probably because it's stupid, has to happen instead. Subverted! Nanny nanny boo boo, you've been subverted by our genius, nihilist writing!

It's just too pathetic for words, and it is so bad that I can not recommend to anyone that they watch this TV show. Yes, the first four seasons are mostly brilliant, and all eight seasons look great, sound great are wonderfully cast and for the most part acted. But miraculously none of that matters now. You will be wasting your time if you watch this show, and you can look forward to absolutely no payoff on anything that you see and hear.

There are so many layers to this story, soDavid Benioff and Dan Weiss took the unadaptable giant books by George R. R. Martin and transformed them into this beautifully constructed show, that something of it’s kind was never done before. There are so many layers to this story, so many characters and story arcs intertwining with each other that it seems impossible to grasp one man came up with it all.

Above all, the thing the show benefited perhaps the most of is the fact that ever since the day they started writing the first script- the complete story from start to finish was compiled in George’s head. Not all the details and specifics of course, but the outline and major plot points were invented years ago when he started working on this huge book series, therefore the production knew exactly where to start, where the story is heading and where it ends, which gave consistency to the story from episode 1 to 73, without getting lost in the way with loose threads.

The show gets plenty of criticism for its deviations from the source material season 5 and onwards, but if you just think for a second how enormous this story is it’s pretty easy to realize a lot needed to be altered to fit the TV medium, and David and Dan managed to do so while preserving the original essence of Martin’s creation, keep the story well constructed and coherent and keep dozens of millions of viewers satisfied, and not only a handful of hard core followers that wanted it to be a page- to-page adaption of the novels. While I enjoyed all the books and didn’t agree with a few of the changes they made for the show as well I can see why a lot had to be cut, things don’t work the same in books as in television. Considering they knew the ending from the start and the huge amount of details you have to alter just from omitting one storyline if you want to reach the same final goal as the books, I believe it was overall for the best and they knew what they were doing, the story didn’t collapse under their hands- at least as far as I’m concerned.

HBO really brought their A-Team of directors to handle this show, as you’ll find not a few episodes here that would rival works of highly acclaimed cinematic directors with 10 times the budget, whether it’s a giant action episode or a well-made drama piece. The production values of the show, like many other things- again, unrivaled by anything else. If it’s the locations, effects, production design, costumes, you name it- it’s not for nothing it’s the most Emmy Awarded show of all times by such a large margin. The fact the show takes place in a fantasy-medieval world gives it an edge in that matter, but the impeccable level of detail the behind-the-curtains crew puts in every frame makes it head and shoulders above everything else on TV, if not also big- budget Hollywood productions. One of the most prominent aspects of this show in my opinion is Ramin Djawadi’s masterful score which must be one of the most brilliantly unique works ever for a series (whether it’s a series of movies or TV series) not only because of the compositions themselves, which are exceptionally beautiful, but also for how the music evolves throughout the seasons and builds the world of the show hand to hand with the writing, the characters and the setting as the story progresses.

The fact that the show is consisting of so many different characters in different locations, with different story arcs that all, eventually, intertwine with each other only adds to the re-watchability value of the show as a whole. You have so many different types of plots, sometimes in different overall genres and such a large variety of types of characters that it’s hard to get bored like you get sometimes if you watch the same linear story over and over again. Say what you will about the final seasons, it’s amazing the show started to really divide the fan base only in its very last season, that being it’s eighth one- something that is ultimately unavoidable with something in that magnitude of popularity, that has so many characters and storylines for people to nit-pick from. We probably must address the elephant in the room, which is the controversy around the final season and as I said it’s expected some will be disappointed with the way elements of the story have concluded but I believe people went way overboard and overreacted with their negativity and scrutiny towards these final episodes, something that originated heavily from being swept by the negative buzz on social media.

I think the success of the show speaks for itself- the countless awards, high acclaim from casual viewers and critics alike, the major fan following, it’s influences on the television landscape and on culture in general- it’s a winner in all fronts. In my personal opinion it’s the greatest television series ever made and while people tend to use this word too cheaply these days, but I wouldn’t say Game of Thrones is anything short of a masterpiece.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Season 6 was a mixed bag of positives and negatives. I MUCH enjoyed the epoch White Walker battle but it should have been the final episode. It is the fight for the survival of humanity after all. I'm also glad the Starks are now in control of most of the known world. However, Cersei and Jamie needed a better ending. Daeny needed a different ending. And I'm perplexed about Jon's ending. The pacing of the final six episodes was also rushed which lead to issues. However, if I were the Three Eyed Raven i would say it ended as it should. And for those who are extremely unhappy with this ending, there are still the books-- should we live long enough for GRRM to finish them. Expand

The hype I was given over this series made me expect this to be one the best shows TV shows I'd ever seen, and while the production was extravagant, the intrigue was interesting, and some acting performances were gravitating, I'm saddened to say this fell short of the praise that was lavished onto it.

I love fantasy with all it's well-known tropes of magic, creatures, and fantastic places -- and while there certainly was evidence of these things in GoT, I don't feel they were featured enough except towards the latter half of the series (and even then, less than I would have liked). For the most part, I felt I like I was seeing a medieval period drama that could have been based off of real historical events. That is fine I suppose, but everyone told me it was a high fantasy epic, so that is what I expected to get -- I don't think it lived up to that description as well as it could have.

Furthermore, it was too much of a family drama. I know that is needed to establish a lot of the connections and motivations of characters, but sometimes, I found a lot of it filler. Many times, I found myself wishing characters would stop talking about their feelings so we could move the story to it's next relevant point. I suppose there were other things that one could mention like lengthy "audience torture" over watching injustices and sad happenings go on for far too long to be rightly resolved, or how some characters seemed to suddenly "flip" in personality or motivation quite quickly from what established them before, but these are less of a problem for me than previous points.

Some of the things I mentioned in this review may greatly appeal to some viewers, and earn GoT a 10 out of 10, but unfortunately, those same things cause me to give it a score less than that.

Years to construct the character of Daenerys who wants to free the poor and the defenseless and then make her become a crazy dictator without a real reason.
