A fantastic tv show easily a top 10 on all of television... that will slowly degrade in quality as the years roll on. The first five seasons were amazing. Season Six was still good but the quality of the writing was beginning to turn. The first few seasons are really amazing TV. The last few seasons, the last season in particular, are so extraordinary bad that i can't bring myself to recommend anyone watch this show, despite the excellent early seasons.

But what the writers did with the storylines and the characters in the final two seasons is nothing but disappointing and a real shame. And in the end, they simply had no clue how to do justice to all the buildup from the previous seasons. One battle against the biggest threat from the north? Seriously, that was it? And Cersei dies in a cave without being confronted by her enemies directly? All the experiences that Jamie had to endure seem to be just a waste of time, he dies with his sister. And Dany turning into Hitler and going mad and aiming to become ruler of the world? I could go on and on, but this collection of plot-holes just spoils everything that used to make GOT one of the best series ever.… Expand

Okay so I am going to say this right now, I am not going to trash seasons 7 & 8. I read the first four books before watching the series but when I caught up with the series while reading Dance of the Dragons, I did give up on reading. I'llOkay so I am going to say this right now, I am not going to trash seasons 7 & 8. I read the first four books before watching the series but when I caught up with the series while reading Dance of the Dragons, I did give up on reading. I'll finish it some time during quarantine as I hope for The Winds of Winter to finish soon. The first five seasons are very good representations of the books and season six was a great way to continue. Seasons seven was good but definitely had an issue with plot and travel timing. Eight definitely had its flaws but was otherwise interchanging between great(8.1,8.2,&8.3) potentially worrying (8.4) and could've been better but acceptable (8.5 & 8.6). Maybe it was because I was a year late in viewing which led me to hear spoilers and took out some of the twists fans found appalling but I otherwise found the 'hated' ending acceptable. If you haven't seen the series and are going to, please, ignore the reviews and decide for yourself.
To sum up the plot for Game of Thrones, it is pretty much about the Lords and Ladies of Westeros who hate or love the other and will switch their allegiances on a dime if they gained from it as they war for the most uncomfortable seat in the lands, the Iron Throne. Game of Thrones was loved for many reasons, such as lovely locales, outstanding effects & musical composition, great battles and fights, and intricate storytelling. I think the character work was best. Game of Thrones was able to give us characters we absolutely love for the rest of our lives (Arya, Jon, Samwell, Ned, Tyrion) or absolutely hate and make you swear yourself to sleep (Cersei, Joffrey, Ramsay) or characters you can never decide (Baelish, Varys).
My favorite five episodes were as follows. 'Winter is Coming' (1.1) for its opening prologue, mystery, series set up, and surprise humor. 'The Watchers on the Wall' (4.9) for an hour of great action, visuals, and musical score. 'Hardhome' (5.8) for a spectacular latter half full of WTF moments, musical score, directing, and action against the white walkers (this one would be my favorite if its first half was memorable). 'The Winds of Winter' (6.10) for an incredible opening twenty minutes and all around solid next season set up. And 'Blackwater' (2.9) for being the first big battle seen in the series and living up to the book version.
If you are looking for a big budget fantasy series and somehow have never heard of this than I strongly recommend this.… Expand

I really enjoyed all of Game of Thrones (yes including season 8) the cinematography had gotten better with each season and was a joy to watch, the writing could have been better throughout season 7 and 8 but I think.that was due to me having my own expectations and predictions which coloured my own opinion. After letting go how I wanted it to end it was a much more enjoyable experience. All I ask is form your own opinions of the show and not just listen to the loudest people on the internet.… Expand

I didn't watch the whole show for the first time until 2020. Very captivating. Watched it for days on end!

I didn't mind that they made Dany crazy - you could see the signs in earlier seasons - I just hate that it was so rushed. Season Eight was awful. It was a such a disappointing end to a decade-long show :(

It is extremely difficult to rate the entire series when the quality varies so massively. The first four season were exceptional, 5 was poor, 6 was an extremely mixed bag, and 7 and 8 were absymal. As an overall I'd give it a 6.

What a series, incredible: almost everything is perfect: The story has a lot to tell with many intrigues, many characters are deep and show development, great music and top visual effects, especially if you have in mind, that it is not a cinema movie. But as written above: the feminism is annoying: there are too many "strong" women and some were ridiculous (Lady Brienne, Lyanna Mormont (the little Lord), Obara Sand). HBO wanted more seasons, the cast and crew wanted more seasons, George R.R. Martin wanted more seasons. But the showrunners selfishly didn't feel like it and they ruined the whole show just to serve themselves.… Expand

Shoe was great up until Season 8 which completely wrecked the primary characters. I ended up selling all my Blu Rays as I will never watch the show again, or any spin-offs given how badly Season 8 was written.

Incredible show, setting standards across the board for storytelling, production value, acting chops, set-pieces, etc. GoT is at it's best when it doesn't follow the traditional narrative approach: i.e., avoids good vs evil, standard monomyth format. However, subverting expectations for subversion's sake catches up to the series eventually. Combine this with a smaller episode order (for who knows why?) in seasons 7 and 8, and the quality become substantially-reduced towards the finish line, where characters behave in a manner for plot's sake, not because of who they are. Additionally, the threat of the white walker's is never fully-realized, and is better off serving as a suspense-generator in earlier seasons.

Overall, watch seasons 1-6, and then temper your expectations towards the end. Seasons 7 and 8, although disappointing, do not irrevocably damage the legacy of the series. GoT, as it stands, is still arguably the greatest show ever made.… Expand

Why on earth did the last season have to exist. Seriously, why?!! The first 7 seasons were perfect and then season 8 just ruined it.

Not sure if How i meet you Mother or this has the worst last Season? Both are absolut Trash.

After what they did in the last two seasons, I'd rather not have watched more than the first four seasons. The first four seasons would get a 10/10, but especially the last season is what I would call a complete disaster. It neglects the whole gore and throws it into a Star Wars setting. Story telling and character arcs are completely inconsistent and ignore all the mystery that previous seasons built up like it never happened. I regret having watched the last season in particular. It ruined the overall picture that GRRM defined so well.… Expand

i cannot say how much this show is the best work you can see, it is a game changer and really set the bar, however i have issues with season 7 and 8 they were not like the rest unfortunately.

This show is a masterpiece of story telling (Until S8) And expertly weaves together all these characters into something truly special. It may not be for everyone's taste. Especially those who don't like the Fantasy Genre. But it is a very epic tv show. Almost feels like a movie on some episodes. Just don't get attached to characters as a lot of the time it seems in this world, People get stabbed in the back (Literally sometimes) a bit too much!… Expand

Has this low of a score due to Season 4 - 8 the first few seasons were great but since around Season 4 - 5 D&D ran out of books to adapt content for the show it began getting really bad.

I watched all 8 seasons (but I only read one book, and that was complete torture to get through).

For 7 seasons nothing much happens in hindsight. It supposedly works towards a final battle and season 8 feels like someone hits fast forward and leaves you sitting there wondering why this series didn't just have two seasons and not waste your time with unnecessary character POVs.
Yes, the acting is good, a lot of good actors and actresses here, but darn is it ever tedious to watch!… Expand

A really hyped-up show. I watched it in a marathon just before the final season, and yeah it's good but the last seasons are not good at all. 7/10 for me. Jaime & Bronn best comedic duo. And a lot of alcohol with Tyrion. Tywin Lannister is the boss.

i love this show very much.season 8 is something im willing to look past simply due to how immersive and well thought out the previous seasons were, i am currently rewatching it on and off again and i still like it very much.

Why such a bad grade? Because of the poor quality of the last season. You spend so many hours watching the show to get this kind of ending? It's just not worth it. Avoid disappointment and don't watch the show!

Overall it was a good show with a good story, great action sequences, and memorable events. Some of the characters were not as well developed and the ending was horrifically bad. Not sure what the two dumbo showrunners were thinking.
