As a fan of vampires First Kill immediately peaked my interest, but the diversity of this amazing cast and the amazing love story is what took it to the next level. This is a great series that we definitely need more of. There is nothing like it on tv right now.

Finally a show with lesbian leads and a wlw romance story that isn’t the stereotypical bury your gays and lesbian falls fro str8 girl trope. No queerbaiti g, no waiting till the penultimate episode for the “maybe” queer characters to have a sporadic kiss that then evolves into nothing. I think it’s a great start to the series, it’s complex enough with very interesting and fleshed out characters all around. Netflix needs to give it a season 2 so that it can just keep getting better. The chemistry between the main characters Jules and Cal is palpable and to die for. Really appreciate what V.R Schwab and all involved tried to do and for the most part did with this show. I’m begging for a season 2 and for this to set a precedent for more shows with wlw main romantic stories in series.… Expand

The chemistry in this beautifully sapphic story, the representation, the camp of vampire and hunter dynamics was absolutely wonderful and needed. Sapphics deserve campy supernatural stories, too. I didn't know what I was missing in terms of sapphic shows until I saw this one. The show is a breath of fresh air because it has nothing to do with period pieces, and is not queer baiting with maybe one kiss throughout the entire show.… Expand

Buffy for the 2020ies. This was a two-day binge for me, because the story unfolding is seriously interesting. This is one of the rare shows where the world building and character behaviors are self-consistent and the actors manage to transport that they are taking themselves seriously. The show runners obviously take show-don't-tell seriously and are careful to avoid cliches. Great story, great acting, really strong female roles, beautiful visuals and music, lousy CGI. First Kill is a fun campy vampire series that could use a better budget and some tighter writing. But the fact that we can get a show like this aimed at queer women for once is reason enough to watch it. Really hope Netflix gives it another season or five.
