Season four of Fargo isn’t interested in subtext unless it can be turned into text, underlined and boldfaced, with directional arrows. ... Anachronisms sink otherwise serviceable exchanges (the Twitter-certified warning “slow your roll” shows up twice), and lit’ry word-clots fail to translate from page to screen.

Earlier iterations of Fargo drew a lot of their power from a wide ensemble of curious people. Here, every introductory quirk is immediately annoying. ... It doesn’t help that, as the two characters with most prominence on their respective sides, Schwartzman and Rock are giving two flavors of bad performance.

It seems like season 4 was hijacked by a group of junior high students, this is probably the worst writing and acting I’ve ever encountered. What is this garbage? Don’t watch this - watch the movie and the first 3 seasons of the show and just pretend it all ends there - like I wish I did. Full Review »

It’s so forced, unrealistic, corny, and kind of dumb, to be honest. It’s very formulaic and of course the set and characters look like you’re making a movie about this time. That’s not a compliment. Just put the effort into the content instead of getting cute with split screens and boring dialogue. It’s like you watch this to say you watched it and go on about how great it is but deep down everyone is lying to each other. I applaud the move to get a more diverse cast but it’s doesn’t necessarily make the actual content better. It’s just not compelling enough to see what happens in the story. Bummer. Full Review »

This show used to be dark, hilarious, and well written. This new season? Not so much It was apparent from the first episode, they were not following the quirky formula of the previous seasons. It is still well-acted, and Chris Rock is terrific, but the story is uninspired, and frankly, boring. It is simply just not Fargo-esque. I Could not connect with nor did I care about any of the characters. I could not for the life of me think of a reason to watch any more episodes when there are so many great shows out there.
