Critic Reviews

  1. Hilarious, delightful and smart... "Eureka" may have the gumption to become the best sci-fi show since the late lamented “Farscape.”
  2. 80
Eureka is neither as charming as Northern Exposure nor as sinister as Twin Peaks. Whatever it lacks in originality, Eureka still represents an oasis in this reality-infested summer.
  3. 75
"Eureka" is clever paranormal escapism that sometimes teeters on the edge of whimsical excess. But that doesn't mean you won't find plenty of affable, oddball entertainment.
  4. "Eureka" is the sort of show that makes you want to see more of almost every supporting player - and, of course, of the show itself.
  5. 75
    Quirky, fun, [and] smart (literally).
  6. Even though broader does mean more conventional, conventional these days is underrated.
  7. 70
    Surreal and then some.

There's warmth and wit there, along with not a little magic.

This show has become one of my favorite shows of all time. There is just something about it that keeps me drawn into it. And its a major plus that the main character is very likable and draws a contrast between the town and himself. Full Review »

It's very pulpy and thus sometimes it requires a heavy suspension of disbelief. With that said, I think that the tone it strikes avoids this becoming a serious flaw. I get the sense that it's self-aware about its nature. My issue with this is that whilst I enjoyed this tone for 13 episodes I feel that across the entire series I will get sick of it. It almost feels like a guilty pleasure tv series and that, at the moment, isn't what I'm looking for.

Despite my personal reasons for not finishing this show, I would recommend to someone looking for a kind of cheesy and not too serious TV series. Most of the elements are very good but, as I said, it is corny so if you're looking for something a bit more high-concept this is not the show for you.
