    If you're a regular viewer of the network -- whose hits include "Stargate: SG-1" and "Battlestar Galactica" -- be glad there's plenty of sci-fi to be found on "Eureka." And if Sci Fi's not on your TiVo, be glad that the show is driven more by characters than special effects (and so-so special effects at that).

    It's an uneven show that lacks the finely crafted eccentricity of a "Northern Exposure" and "Twin Peaks" or "Picket Fences" (other strange-small-town shows featuring police officers), but when I say "uneven," I do mean that sometimes it's good.

    I do quite like this show but I can't see myself watching another season as I just think it's quality is a little too low-brow for me (don'tI do quite like this show but I can't see myself watching another season as I just think it's quality is a little too low-brow for me (don't worry I'm aware of how pretentious this sounds but if I don't enjoy a show; I don't enjoy a show). It's very pulpy and thus sometimes it requires a heavy suspension of disbelief. With that said, I think that the tone it strikes avoids this becoming a serious flaw. I get the sense that it's self-aware about its nature. My issue with this is that whilst I enjoyed this tone for 13 episodes I feel that across the entire series I will get sick of it. It almost feels like a guilty pleasure tv series and that, at the moment, isn't what I'm looking for.

    Despite my personal reasons for not finishing this show, I would recommend to someone looking for a kind of cheesy and not too serious TV series. Most of the elements are very good but, as I said, it is corny so if you're looking for something a bit more high-concept this is not the show for you.    … Full Review »
