Missing-persons advocate John Walsh showcased Laci's disappearance on America's Most Wanted and urged Scott Peterson to appear on the show. Peterson refused.

• Television movies have been made about both Walsh's and Peterson's family tragedies. Walsh was portrayed by Hill Street Blues captain Daniel J. Travanti in Adam, while Peterson was played by former Lois & Clark star Dean Cain in Perfect Husband: The Laci Peterson Story.

• Several weeks into the search for Laci, Scott contacted a realtor to inquire about selling their house and sold his wife's Land Rover, claiming it brought him bad memories and that he needed a truck for work.

• Police placed a global positioning system (GPS) in his new truck to follow his every move.
• Laci's case was reclassified from a missing-persons case to a homicide case before detectives ever found her body.

• Detectives found Laci and the body of her unborn child in February 2003. The remains had washed ashore on a waterfront near Berkeley, California, less than two miles away from where Peterson went fishing on Christmas Eve. Scott was arrested immediately in San Diego.

• At the time of his arrest, Peterson was playing golf. He had bleached hair, was sporting a goatee and had packed his car with camping gear, a water purifier, a fishing pole, four cell phones and nearly $15,000 in cash. He was also minutes away from the Mexican border.

• Forensic pathologists were unable to determine the cause of Laci's death due to severe decomposition and the fact that only her torso was recovered.

• Peterson hired high-profile lawyer Mark Geragos to defend him. Geragos, no stranger to the limelight, represented Winona Ryder during her shoplifting trial and Michael Jackson against child-abuse charges.

• At the time of Peterson's trial, Geragos stated that over "5,000 individual articles consisting of 7,000 to 10,000 pages of printed text" had already been written about the Laci Peterson case.

• Due to strange and unusual markings in a forest near the bay where Laci's body was found, Peterson's lawyer believes that members of a Satanic cult may have killed Laci Peterson.

• Geragos has also suggested that the testimony of a female mystery witness could free Scott Peterson and lead authorities to the real killer.
