Doogie Kamealoha, M.D. is a delightful remake of a well-loved ’80s show that immediately distinguishes itself from the original by its setting and the well-thought-out cast of characters.
-
Owing a lot to its leads, Doogie Kameāloha, M.D. is, in the most general of terms, simply charming.
-
Lee is a smart, charismatic actor, one for whom Doogie Kamealoha, M.D. is pretty much a perfect vehicle. If the rest of Season 1 delivers on the promise its first two episodes make, it could easily establish itself as a comforting favorite for years to come.
-
A refreshed take on "Doogie Howser" made eminently watchable by the winning presence of "Andi Mack's" Peyton Elizabeth Lee.
-
It’s one of the stronger reimaginings to come from Disney+’s mining of nostalgia, which has so far yielded earnest sequel series like The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers and lackluster fare like Turner & Hooch. ... Lee is a prepossessing performer, nailing the broader comedic beats along with the (rarer) moments of pathos. ... The rest of the ensemble isn’t as developed in the first two episodes.

From the scant evidence of two episodes, the new “Doogie” seems to be less about learning life lessons — Neil Patrick Harris was generally quiet and serious in the original — than in scampering comedy and moony romance.
